    Sherlock

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/

Anyone else watched the premiere of this last week? It was really quiet enjoyable.

    Spoiler: show
I felt Watson was actually better than Sherlock, not that Sherlock was bad at all.

If you haven't, you should check out the first episode, it's 2 hours long, i'm sure one of you with the links to stuff on megavideo/etc will post it, as I just downloaded it.

Matt Smith apparently auditioned for Watson at some point.

While I liked Sherlock+Watson+ the production, the ep 1villain was fucking terrible garbage crap and blah, havn't watched ep 2 yet - did they get a real villain yet or is it more cliche bullshit they stole from something else?

Really enjoyed the first two episodes, then I was sad to find out that there are only 3 episodes in the first miniseries.

Oh well, at least BBC is going to make more of them.

Watched the second ep today, it was pretty tedious.

I like the actors playing Sherlock+Watson but the writers are so terrible at coming up with a plot that has anything like the quality necessary for the series to shine.

Maybe it's because of all the shitty cop procedurals, but I'll take engaging characters over good mysteries any day (although obviously both would be better)

Much <3 for the finale. It's kinda how it's only 3 parts (even though each of them is like 2~2 1/2 hours long), but looks like it's done well, BBC wants more, and there's some kind of unaired premiere that'll come out on the DVD/Bluray later this month.

well they've already pretty much said it's a question of when not if we will get more, and apparently it's gotten good ratings and reception.

It took a while to get used to Sherlock (I liked Watson pretty much instantly), but once you warm up it's pretty good. British TV (when done right) is awesome.

I also think Benedict Cumberbatch is kind of a delightful name. Also if, after this, people still can't see that House/Wilson is somewhat based on Holmes/Watson than lol.

Ep 3 was so much stronger than 1 or 2.

    Just watched all 3, fantastic!

I'd say the criticism of the plots is unfair, i found the first and third slightly better than the second, but all three equaled or surpassed anything else in the genre i have ever seen.

Would also recommend Spooks and Dr. Who to anyone who liked this and has not seen them.

It's pretty good, but it always feels like the writers are trying too hard to define the characters, somewhat lacking in subtlety.
Ends up being slightly cringeworthy at times, but still enjoyable as a whole.

And tbh, the ubiquity of CSI and derivatives means I instinctly phase to the whole forensics aspect, like Holmes examining the fished-up body in the 3rd ep.

Oh, and I concur with Iono,
    Spoiler: show
    Mortiarty's voice is horrible.

All in all, decent series, but not nearly as good as "Murder Rooms: Mysteries of the Real Sherlock Holmes" or, in the same genre but unrelated to Holmes, the Nero Wolfe mysteries.

Well to be fair, its a 3 part series, and there is a fine line between trying too hard, and being bland. I think it struck a good balance for a mainstream audience.
