In what many telecommunications scholars and sociologists are tentatively referring to as "the saddest forum post in the history of all mankind," Blizzard recently informed World of Warcraft players on the Moon Guard server that moderators would now be patrolling the server for ... erotic role-playing. Particularly in one in-game town, Goldshire, which appears to be a non-stop, Bacchanalian festival of delights of the virtual flesh and oh man, that's the creepiest thing we've ever typed.

Blizzard customer service reps will now "regularly" keep an eye on the town's public chat channels, privately punishing players who violate the game's harassment policies. We can't wait to hear about some of the super awkward /Tells this enforcement will lead to. "Dear Razorbladez, please stop trying to have cybersex with that level 2 Paladin. That is very, very gross."

Once, when Detheroc was down, one of our moonkins told us we should all make level 1 humans in Moon Guard and head to Goldshire.

What he told us didn't prepare us in the least.


Fast Forward to about a month ago, I told my guildies about that little adventure and two of them decided to see for themselves. Goldshire at the time was being raided by some Horde players. My friends played girl characters. One of them was getting chatted (about to get cybered) up by some death knight dude. This dude thinks his new "girlfriend" is way too naked so he hearths back to Stormwind, buys a dress and trades it to my friend. We're all egging him on.

Behind a tree is a level 80 Horde Boomkin. I see his nameplate. My friend is flagged.

I mention to my friend that he'll eventually have to fork over some cyber for the dress.

What happened next was a culmination of the most perfect set of moments.

Our DK hero asks "Shall we retire to somewhere more intimate my dear?"

At this very moment, the boomkin pops out of the tree and nails my friend with a moonfire. Of course my other friend and I totally cheese it, emoting shaking our fists and cursing the heavens for our friend now departed.

Not to be outdone, the DK of course ("MILADY, NOOOOOOOOOOO!") makes a show of the whole thing. Then on vent:

"Oh my god he asked me if we were gonna still cyber while I'm still dead."
"And?"
"I said to him 'I can't! I'm dead! IT'S OVER. D:'"

Then we logged back to our other server.
