Sorry if there's already a thread about this game, didn't see it!

Minecraft is a sandbox game which allows players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D world. It is currently in development by Markus Persson, aka "Notch". The gameplay is inspired by Dwarf Fortress, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Dungeon Keeper, and especially Infiniminer.

So basically this is how the game works: At daytime you can roam the world, craft things, mine and so on, but during the night monsters pop so you have to protect yourself until dawn.

It's amazing just what you can do in this game, it feels like there's no limits.

The game is currently in Alpha and costs 10 euros.. although there's a free "classic" version but that one is lame (can't craft, no mobs, etc.). The game is going to enter Beta this or next month and the price will probably rise too from 10 to 15 euros.

Game is very fun when you get into building stuff. I don't really play the SP much, only multiplayer, but fucking sssssssssssssssssssssss outta nowhere.

Pretty much how I feel about Minecraft, granted, I get to sift through 50 threads on it a day over at /v/. ;/

I wouldn't mind playing it, but I have a policy against paying for an alpha, let alone a beta.

so, how awesome is this game and should I be playing it? 10 euros is about 13 bucks, is it worth it? I watched some videos about it and it definitely seems like the kind of thing I like, but I'd like some BG opinions before I go spending any money

Or you can just pirate it and play. Its pretty simple to do. I'll probably end up buying it soon just because there's so much that can be done. Personally though I enjoy being able to build something like that in my free time.

I'm fairly surprised the game isn't generating as much interest here as everywhere else. Finns are all over this game right now with private multiplayer servers etc.

I'd say it's the most entertaining sandbox I've played because it feels like you can truly affect the world and there's a sort of progression and sense of adventure when you're looking for caves and shit trying to dig up the rarest metals and creating your own massive buildings while avoiding the monsters that spawn during the night. Some peeps have even made an underwater HQ out of glass or a gigantic earth miniature, imagination is the limit basically.

The crafting system is also fairly entertaining. There's a bit of a learning curve with it though, need guides to make sense of it.

Nope. I pirated it but might get the full version when I get a new laptop.

Make sure you build a house though.

If they haven't changed it classic is a gigantic waste of time. No mobs, no crafting, no depth at all.

Just pirate the alpha.
