Conan Premiers November 8th on TBS

Conan O'Brien ended months of useless speculation Tuesday and officially released the name of his new TBS show: "Conan."

"It's 'Conan,' simple, pure, like the guy himself," O'Brien said in a Youtube video released first to NY Magazine's Vulture blog and TeamCoco.com.

O'Brien, who walked away from NBC's "Tonight" show earlier this year with his pockets full of millions of dollars, will launch his new late-night talker on TBS November 8.

In the video, O'Brien appears behind a desk in a bare office.

"I've still got the beard," he says, "and a pretty crappy office."

He jokes that he spent millions of dollars and had legal and media research teams look into potential names, but ultimately came up with "Conan."

"I got a lot of work to do, it will be great," he says before scurrying off the screen.

O'Brien spent 17 years at NBC, first as host of "Late Night" and then "Tonight," where he left after nine months as host.

His decision to bolt came after NBC officials moved to fix the network’s ailing lineup, which included the failing Jay Leno show at 10 p.m. The initial idea was to move Leno to 11:30 p.m., with a half-hour show leading into "Tonight" with O'Brien as host at midnight.

O'Brien balked and settled on a severance package estimated at $45 million, for he and his staff.

Afterwards he was courted by Fox for a new late night show, but ended up in a deal with TBS, where he'll be paired with George Lopez' "Lopez Tonight."
New Show, New Name, new thread?

As with many others, I am looking forward to this.

If I'm not mistaken, the show is actually called Conaw. Slight correction.

Conan O'Brien reacts to Max Weinberg leaving
Calls former band leader a 'huge part of my life'
    By Lindsay Powers
    Sept 27, 2010, 02:37 PM ET

Conan O'Brien confirmed Monday that his longtime band leader, Max Weinberg, would not join him on his TBS show "Conan" this November.

"Max has been a huge part of my life for the past 17 years and he is an incredible band leader and musician. I hope he can find time to stop by the new show, sit in with the band, and pretend to find my monologue funny," O'Brien said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

A rep for O'Brien says it was a mutual decision for Weinberg to leave.

Said Weinberg, "17 years -- a lifetime on TV. Conan and I met on a New York City street corner in the Spring of 1993 and my association with Conan, his staff, and crew has been a deeply rewarding experience for me. And, making music with Jimmy Vivino, Mark Pender, La Bamba, Jerry Vivino, Scott Healey, Mike Merritt, and percussionist James Wormsworth enabled me to become a better musician and bandleader. I thank them for their first rate work on the bandstand. I wish Conan and his show the best and I do look forward to dropping by."

Jerry Vivino, a longtime guitarist and keyboard player, told The Riverfront Times of St. Louis he'd be replacing Weinberg.

Vivano said Weinberg -- who has been a member of Bruce Spingsteen's E Street Band since the 1970s -- will focus on his other gigs: "Max has his big band out there that has been his dream all his life, kind of a Buddy Rich band. And there's a kid in Jersey that works with him occasionally. A singer-songwriter! Some guy that's got some hope over there!"

I will take a trade Max for the Masturbating Bear.

It does suck though, Max is awesome, wish he'd be with Conan to the end.

Coming to Comedy Network in Canada also. Perhaps I'll finally get to see what all the hubbub was about him.

Does TBS have any really successful shows? I got a negative perception of it as that channel which shows reruns of sitcoms and fox cartoons(which Cartoon Network already shows). It is no Fox. I fear for this.

Majority of their stuff is reruns from other stations.

A bunch of 20-second Conan promos, some of which are pretty funny, can be found here at EW.com.

    My personal favorite:

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

If Conan did just a half hour of stand-up and bits, I would love the show. Unfortunately, he still devotes more than half the show to actors and authors looking for paid publicity in a format that is beyond tired. As it stands, I only tune into furguson when convenient because he does at least a half hour of that pretty well(best to just watch one or two a week because he tends to repeat monologue stuff for a week).

Leno is just crap now. He does 5 mins of mono, then resorts to showing youtube and syndicated clip show bits as part of his act until the guests come on after about 20 mins. Letterman and Kimmel are just plain A-holes and Fallon is an over-budget poser hipster(pay at SNL must blow because the second their stars think they are a somebody, they jump ship).

I was hoping for Conan to do something new or at least shake-up the late night format like Carson Daily did, just another late night show is kind of a let down.
