Not sure How I feel about my archer wearing an eye patch. Depth perception is kinda an issue.

turn off ambient occlusion, makes 30fps in cities -> almsot always 60fps in cities

Just a couple quick shots as I just got on for like.. a few minutes to fuck with stuff. Settings @ 1680x1050, 16xQ CSAA (was at 4xAA previously), High/Highest textures, and all the other stuff. AO/DoF off.

Oddly enough, my FPS didn't take a hit and I still got 25-30ish around the Aetherite, so that was nice. I got lower at 4x AA. Makes no sense, this game. These pictures still look really nice. At least I think so. Not zomg amazing compared to the 1920x1200 or whatever, but eeeh!

The terrain further away always looks that for me, it doesn't stand out too much in the wilderness, but in places like Limsa Lominsa it looks pretty annoying. I'm using pretty much the highest settings without AO and DoF.

That appears to be "MIP Mapping" (MM). With MIP Mapping on, focused on increasing rendering times, it will decrease texture qualities at a distance, when you usually would not notice the degradation. It's definitely beneficial to have it on if you're going to have Depth of Field on since you will definitely not notice it. If it is noticable, I would turn it down or off if you're not in dire need of FPS.

I know many people have had problems with the shadows in the character models so far, but does character models actually look THIS bad for any of you in the creation screen?

The yellow circled spots also tend to flicker and move all the time which is annoying. And you can also see the belly button area appearing very pixelated. And this screenshot is with the highest possible settings without double buffer, AO and DoF, using 1920x1080 res. The reason I'm bringing this out is that just today I started paying attention to the shitty graphics during the character creation and started wondering if my GPU OC could be causing that.. I did that like 3 days ago though, but you know, I rarely even look at the characers on the char selection, so I'm not sure at all if they looked like that before the OC. But if other people are having that as well then it's probably in the game engine. And also nothing but the character model shadows look crappy in game as well.

I run shadows at standard and I get that. Although it's kind of an on and off type thing. Sometimes my shadows look fine other times they're pretty awful. It does seem to have gotten worse for me from CB to OB though.

I run shadows at normal and only have a 9800GT card and I don't get any flickers during character creation or anywhere in world.

Yeah, mine looked like that as well with a Radeon 5850. Changing Shadow Detail from standard to high in the config took care of most of the problem. It's still not perfect, but it is nowhere near as bad as it was before.
