It seems like with the beta, all of my actions are server based, none of my actions seem to be on my client, then client sending info to server (like normal), is the beta doing this on purpose? it adds all of this additional lag and the response times are horrible.

Yep, it's basically you > monitoring screen > server. Then it's server > monitoring screen > you. Once they remove that screen things generally improve greatly.

Anyone remember where the wind based mobs are in Ul'dah? I can't remember at all...

Also, trying to find a good place to level up conjurer 1-10. Well, 1-6 really, I know a good place for 6-10.

I wonder if they intend to keep the mob placement they have now, in full retail. I greatly enjoy the 'openess' of the world - but there are times you can run for 10 minutes and only see one thing to whack at

?- Does anyone know if you can use a 360 controller hooked up via the 'quick charge kit' cord inplace of the standard USB pad, and/or if there's any additional programs/drivers needed?

Very possible, but if it's lack of things to whack at that you're missing, the problem doesn't isn't the current monster placement :D.

There's nothing stopping you waiting until 2011 to buy it.

That's the best advice there is. I fully intend to wait until they get the guildleve design right. The rest I can deal with being unfinished for the time being.

I tried a leve in Gridania, where I had to fight 8 funguars. I killed 7/8 within the first two minutes, then the last one took off running a few tunnels down. I go after it, only to find out it has run past a pack of six wolfs and into a cavern full of more wolfs. Such bullshit. I kept dying over and over. Until somebody else realized the hard way like me and went charging in. I watched him catch all the hate while I went in and killed the last Funguar. The game is making me do such dickish things just to succeed.

Aside from crashes during leves, that's the second thing that makes me want to rip my teeth of and insert them into my forehead with a hammer.

Although I haven't been playing this game as much as I used to get into FFXI. I thought I had put in a decent amount of time since beta launch. Got in at the start. And yet my highest job is only 12. I just saw a cat at level 40. Holy shitballs are people going to be capping out far to fast. This time around I really want to level many classes, which makes this system a lot better for me.

One thing that makes me sad though is I really don't see any omg great armor like I saw in XI. I know its new, people don't know to many crafts and there isn't anything like AF yet. But nothing seems to stand out. Much of the same color scheme going on.

Pretty sure you didn't see any one at 40, especially w/ the fatigue system.

The biggest problem this game has right now is the irritation of having to have both hands on the keyboard to move around town. The camera doesn't float/follow in a nice manner if you turn sharply, and the camera controls require a second hand. Subtle, but very poor design.

As it stands I feel like i'm fighting the UI to get anywhere.

Arrow keys too easily changing your action bars when you are moving by numpad sucks too. Action bar change should require a key combo (CTRL + arrow would be fine) for safety/security

uh i did this thru 6 years of ffxi, thats not really the problem tho i would like my arrow key camera back.
i use numpad and havent had any problems control-wise, with the exception of arrow key camera.
The only real problem is lag which will hopefully be alot lighter once they take out the shit thats collecting info for beta

Which is why I don't use the arrow keys. The mouse makes it much much easier. Actually been very comfortable with that aspect. Was worried it was going to suck ass after all the complaints before. But I'm sure its not exactly like it was before.

Has anyone tried equipping armour that says it's got better defense than your initial "weathered" set, only to find that after equipping it actually makes your defense go down even with the right Rank?

I'm having this weird problem with my Weathered Tabard > Lv.6 Cotton Doublet. Hm...

I noticed getting a message that the "newly equipped item now fits comfortably". Maybe there's a connection?

Does anyone know if the Ul'dah starter mission is bugged? I got to the point where you are supposed to escort the NPC, and I cannot find her. The note says that she's at the northern gate, and after having walked around numerous times she is nowhere to be found. I didn't realize the missions gave so much gil, otherwise I would have reset right away
