Since it doesn't look like anyone has mentioned it yet:

Unlike the support job traits from Wyrm Mail/+1 which must be equipped only when your wyvern is summoned, the food effect on Lancer Plackart +1/2 is in effect any time the body is equipped. Take it off and the food effect disappears, put it back on and the effect returns. Easy to test with food that adds HP. Glad they went with that mechanic so we can still gain the benefit of both body pieces. I can't say if there is a difference between the +1 and +2 version as I upgraded to +2 in a single shot. Of course the only time I can imagine taking it off would be for Healing/Restoring Breath (Wyvern Mail if HP from food is less than 65), solo TP (Ares Cuirass or Twilight Mail), or for select weapon skills such as Geirskogul (Twilight Mail for the +15 AGI mod). Lancer Plackart +2 is easily an Armada Hauberk +2.

Still an awesome ability but would have been nice if you just had to wear it prior to eating the food. On the plus side at least this means that should your wyvern die you can just slap on the body when you resummon it and the buffs will still apply.

You don't need the body on when you summon the wyvern. And if you did, that would be lame, because you need wyrm mail on when you summon to give your wyvern the bonuses from *that*. (As Xanthe mentioned.)

Indeed. As I mentioned before there are very few situations where you would want to wear anything over the plackart, and those situations would not cause any detriment to your wyvern temporarily losing the effect of the food.

I could see Twilight Mail for /mage soloing if another form of refresh is unavailable, since I didn't take Ethereal Earring. But yeah, +2 body otherwise.
