Help for a small tank!

I'm a Gladiator. I started from LIMS but one sell a shield. At Ulda they sell some at 300k. How does a tank to find a shield in the early stages? The shield lv 5 that is created with the craft is hard to do on the first day .... You as you did?

What do you do for this problem?

for shield lv 5 need armorsmith 10 -.-' with a lot of mats :/

I assumed he was talking about gladiator since he was asking about a shield...God forbid he use the "d" instead of an "a." Shouldn't you be asking yourself why you would think a goldsmith would ask about tanking? o.0

Another shield you can make up is from Carpentry. It's ugly but... w/e. Might be easier to craft up than the armorsmithing one (although you might want to xp armorer anyways so.....) I think it's a rank 7ish synth. If needing lots of materials isn't for you though, ffxiv crafting won't be for you either most likely. Most every synth takes lots of materials, usually from lots of different crafts. If you don't ant to deal, you'll just have to get the money and buy from an npc or other players who are willing to put in some effort.

If you go level your (subjobs?) while other people craft low level shields enough, the prices should become reasonable. Eventually.

There's an NPC in Ul'Dah that sells a Rank11 shield for something like 42k.

Not unless they moved it to another npc from beta. The only shield I saw in uldah was an Iron Scutum for 400k.

Theres no reason to not have a NPC sell a lvl1 shield for ~2k. No excuses at all.

There was more than one shop in Ul'dah that sold shields. I think one sold one, and another sold ~4 of varying rank.

Apparently they have a wooden shield on some npc according to Archives, so I stand corrected if that is actually in retail. Like you I believe there is no excuse for low level shields to not be available. I can make Bronze Hoplons on Kashuan now but unfortunately my friend that's doing leather can't make dodo leather straps yet so fmylife.
