    Let me in

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_Me_In_(film)

The movie is coming out soon, so i wanted to see if it does the european version justice. However, i am already disappointed with this one since they already changed it to fit what they see as american sensibilities.

    Spoiler from the swedish movie:

    Spoiler: show
They made eli into an actual girl rather than a castrated male. I think this pretty much sucks since finding out she was a boy was kind of a twist in the movie. It just feels like they changed it because it might have been "too gay" for america, even though calling this a gay relationship is a stretch.

Since my curiousity is piqued, my question is
    Spoiler: show
why does it matter if he/she was a girl/boy? they seem pretty young so it doesnt seem like something that would particularly matter all that much

    Spoiler: show
To the main plot it doesn't matter, not really anyway. It was part of the twist in the swedish one that she was not only a vampire, but also a boy. It's only a problem to me because they took it out to avoid insulting sensibilities (those that don't like any of that homo gay stuff in dem movies), and it was kind of endearing that the human still loved her even though she was not only a vampire, but a boy! I really liked that twist, and it's not something you see every day, which is why i'm dissappointed that they, essentically, castrated the movie of something that made it stand out. The american version can still be a great movie even without this aspect of it; it doesn't really need it. I am just insulted that they took it out.

I didn't think this version looked so bad when the first trailer came out, but since then... Well. Yeah. They are marketing it like a flat out horror film without highlighting the tense drama behind the original story.

Haha. I knew as soon as I heard about this that they'd make that change. So predictable.

I'm looking forward to seeing this. I like vampires, as long as it's not Twilight. October 1st right?

I heard that the film is pretty loyal to the swedish version sans the part i was whining about. So it will probably be a good film regardless.

On the flip side of that, this looks like an actual good piece of vampire entertainment. I'll probably be seeing it soon, though not on opening weekend.

I did not read the creepy pedo peek at pubic hair to read as "she's really a boy" - was there a penis in there somewhere that I missed in my two viewings?

Note: I did not perform a thorough frame-by-frame analysis, although I do recall the "pelvic model" for that shot looking rather mannequin-y.

Also the marketing for this film is a shame. And the previews make it look like damn near a shot by shot remake. Every time I recommend this film to people (who haven't heard of it) I tell them to not read the synopsis, just watch it. If you don't know it's about a vampire to start it's that much more interesting.

Kind of like watching "In the Bedroom" knowing nothing going in. Or "Psycho".

In the film she says she's not a girl, but people assumed she meant she was a vampire. Then you get a quick peek at her naked, and it's pretty difficult to make out. You can't tell if that's lots of pubic hair or... something else. In the book, it's explicit that eli is a boy, and her name is elias. They never outright say it in the movie.

edit: her crotch also looked scarred

    yep...

    Reaching.

I never read the book, but if she was supposed to be a post-op transsexual, that idea is really not in the Swedish film adaptation.
