To the main plot it doesn't matter, not really anyway. It was part of the twist in the swedish one that she was not only a vampire, but also a boy. It's only a problem to me because they took it out to avoid insulting sensibilities (those that don't like any of that homo gay stuff in dem movies), and it was kind of endearing that the human still loved her even though she was not only a vampire, but a boy! I really liked that twist, and it's not something you see every day, which is why i'm dissappointed that they, essentically, castrated the movie of something that made it stand out. The american version can still be a great movie even without this aspect of it; it doesn't really need it. I am just insulted that they took it out.
