I personally think reading the manga from page 1 gives too much away.
I personally think reading the manga from page 1 gives too much away.
There are a lot of anime's I've watched that at some point I wish i had read the manga instead, and sometimes start solely reading the manga at that point. Some things are just better as mangas.
Then there are the few anime's that are better as animes, which is why I ask.
The manga as a whole is superior, but I like that the anime didn't give away as much at the beginning (to my recollection).
I'd read the manga. I found parts of the anime a bit drawn out. boring parts go quicker in the manga.
But as Qalbert said, don't read it from the very beginning, but at the chronological start(which I can't remember the chapter number). It's not necessary to read the beginning chapters as there's nothing crucial explained, but it does spoil a lot of things which could have been better if it wasn't known about before hand.
I agree, start at the chronological order. It starts somewhere in the middle of Volume 03. I would recommend;

When does the anime get good? Should I just start with the anime instead in this case?
If you're going to get into the manga I'd recommend just reading instead. The anime, while a great adaption, omits quite a bit.

Im so fucking pumped for this.
Looks awesome, but going to /sadface if they put too much CGI into it.
Can't wait...I read the manga up to 3 maybe 4 years ago...but then I stopped cause it took so long between releases...guess I'll pick it up again.
Just saw this today.

Truly, Berserk is my absolute favorite anime/manga of all time. I hope they just pick up after the Eclipse and go from there.
They can probably fit most of the manga of what is out now in a 50~ episode template if they cut out;

I'm going to fucking rage if Susumu Hirasawa doesn't make the OST :<
Ehr, the anime didn't go that far into it for there to be PUK or Skull knight.. It was before the two, Gutts wasn't born with puk by his side, nore was he born with the skull knight by his side, he encountered them AFTER that lil incident with griffith turning into Femto, in the manga..
false, puck was in the pre-flashback segments at the very beginning of the manga, and if I am not mistaken puck was the source of the fairy dust someone had pre-eclipse. and skull knight showed up after Guts left
I'm always surprised by what people will create an account to post for.
So this whole thing is in CG?
I'm not too sure if I like that.
I'm usually not too keen on pure CG, but the Naruto OVA or whatever that seemingly used the recent game engines wasn't too bad. Assuming similar quality, it'd be tolerable. Unfortunately, when I think CG in anime, it usually involves cheesy reproductions of machinery or mass cloning generic soldiers and whatnot to make some super stiff army of lameness that isn't even textured to match the rest of the environment.
Berserk to Be Theatrical Film Project
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...heatrical-film
The February issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine is announcing on Saturday that the previously revealed Berserk project will be a theatrical film project.
Some 90 minute romp won't do things justice. Will either need multiple films or go back to episodic format. Still, guess movie mode bodes better for tits and gore.
