Finished the game, gotta say I liked the ending:

Dante getting his white hair was a pretty epic moment. Have to admit I didn't see Virgil turning at the end. If they can cut out all the unnecessary "fucks" and give PS4 a proper port I say bring on DmC 2. PS4/720 could turn this reboot into a powerhouse.

I finished this the other day and I didn't like the ending or much of the story at all tbh

As expected the characters are different in style and personality but Dante isn't really emo like I think most people expected (other than a part of his back story where he cuts his chest open to touch his own heart). He is actually devoid of a personality at all for the most part. He is basically blank with a few bad one liners. Not old Dante funny bad mind you they are all about as bad as the clips we've seen already. He basically just seems like most forgettable protagonists we have in other video games now a days. The bigger crime is what they did to Vergil honestly. He went from being a badass in DMC3 to a weak, shady, computer hacker in this. There is a point where he actually cries out to Dante for help. The turn at the end was weird. I didn't really feel surprised but something about it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the story and what Vergil proposed didn't really seem all that evil that it required Dante to immediately fight him.

The combat is pretty mindlessly easy other than the lack of lock on which I found agitating pretty frequently. The only "difficultly" comes from enemies that can only be damaged by certain weapon types (red=devil blue=angel) which is really more tedious than difficult. The excessive platforming also ending up being something I found myself tired of pretty quickly. Overall the game is ok, not bad not great. It probably wouldn't be getting the attention it is if it wasn't Devil May Cry.

This was a pretty good discussion on the new dmc game. It even has one guy representing the fan perspective and one representing the new person in the franchise perspective. Although the devil may cry fan is a little more eloquent and a little less "abloo bloo bloo" than some of the people in this thread have been. All in all, i agree with the general conclusion the discussion comes up with: if you compare dmc to other games in the franchise, it's found lacking. If you compare dmc to other action games, it is an above average game. One key aspect about the game is how it makes the dmc franchise accessible to new players which is probably what Capcom was aiming for (with a more grounded protagonist and a fighting system that makes executing good looking combos more accessible to the general audience). The reason why the game was relaunched was because there were some internal problems with the old teams that used to work on dmc, so Capcom decided to hand it off to someone new.

Picked up the HD collection yesterday. I've forgotten how much DMC1 feels like RE. It really did start out similar to RE like in it's original production of RE4. DMC2 just feels way easier than I remember though.
