[Important Update Details]

- Introduction of the fallen city of Ishgard located in Coerthas Central Highlands.

- Introduction of Auction House services in all four cities.

- The start of Airship services in all cities.
* An Airship Pass is required to board airships, and can be obtained after the completion of Rank 20 quest, the Airship Pass can be purchased thereafter for the price of 150,000 GIL from the quest giver of the character's starting nation.
* Airship Stops are scattered around all of Eorzea, with main Airship Docking Stations at each major city.

- Players can now hire up-to 8 retainers into their employment.
* Each additional retainer after the first retainer is subject to a $1.00 fee monthly, and can be purchased through the account management system.

- The party bonus system (which awards bonus skill points for battles fought in a party) has been improved further.

* The party bonus system awards more points when there are more party members within the appropriate skill rank range.
* In this case, "appropriate skill rank range" means a skill rank no more than five ranks lower or higher than your own.

- Introduction of Chocobo rental service throughout all major cities.

- Introduction of the Mentor system.
* To provide Mentor support, players must enable the feature through the support option, provided the player is of rank 15 or above in said Discipline.
* Adventurers can search for Mentors using the search function.

- Anima is rewarded for completing Guildleves.
* Amount rewarded is based on the Guildleve rank.

- The search function has been fixed.
* Players can now search and invite other adventurers to their party, given that all members are within the same region.

- Text chat limitation has increased from 85 characters to 315 characters.

- An Issue where the game would crash while in windowed mode has been fixed.

- An issue where enabling AO would cause the game to crash after a random amount of time has been fixed.

Your first clue that those update notes were fake should have been the fact that they included actual notes.

Frankly, you should consider yourself lucky that they announce maintenance times at all; they could just take the servers offline randomly, but they're clearly determined to go out of their way to remain engaged with the player base.

I'm surprised they are doing the maintenances during JP time as well. I don't remember many FFXI maintenances during those times.
