I just ran into him yesterday too at lvl 31. xD I was killing horsies and just looking around. :x What a surprise.... ; ; I paniced and figured I didn't stand a chance so got off 3 quickening chains and that did him in pretty quick... I wasn't so lucky with the horde of undead zombies he left standing after he died... ._.

whats the best weapon for a healing type character?

edit: looking at lists i'm guessing a rod?

staves are generally better in magic power, but rods give a few mp+

Personally I just equip them with Bows. I like having the extra attack when Im farming/xping. I didnt know about the staff thing, may look into that later on for bosses and stuff.

lolol, Adrammelech? in Zaterinan Caverns or w/e? yeah i was just xping/farming through, and then stumbled upon him, i was barely able to fend off the summons, but with the Esper too, yeah was no joke. Book says hes the "easiest" of the optional summons, and level 39, im 34 and got my ass handed to me lol.

i just beat him yesterday at 40, it was hard. I had two people with range, vaan(yoichi and barthier (sirius), and basch with a sword. I berserked basch and set him to killing the summons, and i set vaan and barthier's gambits to foe: flying so that they would just attack the esper and ignore the summons.

The only problem i had with him, was his thundaga also has added effect: stop. To counter this, go to the area north of the nebira river and chain the worgers pretty high, then go to the wasteland and kill wary wolf, he drops a power armlet which is stop:immune. I only had one i got earlier in the game, but i put it on my healer who could quickly esuna everyone else. It was a tougher fight, but not to bad once i prepared for it.

I got off a quickening on him early on, and I think that set him into OMFGKILLHER mode, because it went fucking apeshit when it got to critical HP.

Yeah so.....I'm out of Teleport stones, in the Hennes mines....and my increasingly long chain of bats won't drop them....how fucked am I if they don't drop one?

Well with no -aga Magic or Dispel yet, and at level 36, what is recommended? Have level 2 quickenings on 3 main characters, the other 3 have lvl 1 quickenings, but are
Balthier lvl 10
Basch lvl 17
Penelo lvl 17

so yeah swapping out for different people is out of the question atm lol, only use main 3 ;o

Wow, Berserk + Hastega with 3 Deathbringers and only gambit is HP < 10% = Curaja... lolmobsandbosses. This is really easy now. =PPPP Hundred Kraken for 2500-4000 dmg a swing. 8)

Hmm, little noobish here, but how do you stand your healers (or anyone, really) further back like other FFs? Whenever I try any combination of buttons at the party page it just moves the avatar over and greys it out (as if you're removing them from the active party).

there's another quest you get there later on, and it also adds to the "Explorer" Sky Pirate Den title(where you have to visit every area)

what i do to move my healer away is i control the healer myself and move them out of AoE range ie breaths etc.

as far as i know you can't see cutscenes again

i got the Diamond Bangle which is supposed to let you get rarer treasure out of chests, but i've been getting alot more Knots of Rust :x whats up with that

According to the guide, having Diamond Bangle on makes the treasure you are opening 90% Knot of Rust, or 10% really really good item, and makes like every treasure that way. Most of the items(good) are Elixir, Megaelixir, Ether, etc, some being equips i think. Its a low chance, but nice on chests that you know maybe only give a potion or some shit anyway.

im trying to get to nalbina so i can head to achides(sp), i've been told i need to go thru that way to get to where i need to go

but i cant get the baheim passage since the passage was blocked and i dont know how to get the key for the other passage.

any help would be awesome!

OK soo u just wanna get to Nalbina? From where are you now? Or do you want to go through Barheim?

For Nalbina its a straight zone right from Estersand, and Barheim is completely separate zone from Estersand, just need a key to go through the whole area, which u do by doing the quest or w/e for it.

Rabanastre -> Dalmasca Estersand -> 2 or 3 zones North/Northeast -> Nalbina

If you have map of Estersand, shows you right where Nalbina is, you can also Gate Crystal to the town close to Nalbina, if youve touched that crystal previously, and then its one zone away

Is it just me or do more people not think some of the music for CS's and boss fights in this game are amazing? And the music on the opening screen before you hit load game....not to mention i find the overall graphics even while not in a CS are outstanding, like KRT and Shrine of Miriam, and Mt. Bur-Omisace..

You can't just fly from Rabanastre to Nalbina? >_> Earlier in the game I had accidentally taken an airship to Nalbina because I wasn't reading and thought it was the flight to that sky city. (Didn't realize there was more than one flight at the time ;p) So I had the gate crystal by the time I had to go to Nalbina... I wouldn't think they'd just shut down the flight when time comes to go there, would they? >_>;

Im not sure, i know there is an Aerodome in both, just dont know if they will let you fly to a Imperial controlled city, if not there are gate crystals in both, so long as u touched the one in Nalbina first time you were there, and you have a tele stone, u can just warp there

wow I just had the most epic fight vs. Adramamallalarmamralech in the caverns. I'm level 43, so this should have been really really easy, but...it wasn't.

I went in with my B team and they took off a good 1/2 of its hp (maybe a little more) with a 14 hit quickening. Brought my A team in, and set off another quickening. I guess my eyes went bad or something and I fucking...hit the quickening on the adds that weren't near the Esper...so I essentially wasted ALL of my A team's mana.

The only person in my party with a ranged weapon at that point was Vaan, who was level 25...and dead. So I got him back in, raised him, had him attack it, and then he died. Then everyone else died but Fran. At this point I was just going to give up, but it had suuuuuuch low hp left, that I decided to do something crazy.

I PD'd Vaan and Penelo. I figured I could keep Vaan up long enough for him to kill it. No. He got one shotted, so did Fran. Penny had 250ish HP left, and I was like FUCCKKKK, so I used a megalixer (lol...one person in the party) on her, got her hp/mp up, and did a 4 shot quickening and killed it.

BUT WAIT! THERE WERE STILL ADDS LOL!!11 -_-

I noticed that the adds were still alive, and immediately used a phoenix down on Fran...and one second later Penelo got a fira right in the face and died. But Fran was up! I flee'd out of that fucking shit, and it was so.epic.

I just had the same sort of thing vs Antlion.......man it wasnt hard until the end. Fucking thing goes absolutely rage mode berzerk, attacking non stop, Kracken Club attacking for 300-500 a hit, Vaan tanking, Ashe and Fran pretty much cant even attack, just spamming Curaga on Vaan. Beginning was easy, go in, 10 hit quickening, completely wipes out all the Killer Mantises, Antlion doesnt even get to Cannibalize one. Whole fight is a joke, smooth as hell til the end..........

Goes nuts, finally get so low on mp, he starts killing everyone one after another, im freakin out, using Phoenix downs left and right, finally have all 3 up for a split second, pop a couple ethers, bust out a quickening, but have horrible luck on it and didnt even get a Combo thing at the end, puts Antlion to a freaking sliver of life left. Kills 2 people, only thing left to do, swap in 2 Level 17 people, they do a quickening, horrible luck again, no Combo at the end, but........

He dies!!! by the lvl 17 noobs! yay

how bout going thru the whole underground palace from phon coast with not saving once at 30-35.

The regular mobs weren't too bad but doing the mandies fight then then up to the arhmanian boss without a save is fucking stressful

beat them all in the end but i thought i was going to lose to the mandy's definetly at first but pulled it off, the arhmanian was a bit easier but lol i had to put some LP into remedy lore 3 on penelo so i could fucking lose doom with 1 tick to go

fun zone and definetly the longest i had gone so far int he game without a save

I'm pretty sure berserk resist rate is based off that chars Magick power stat. Atleast it seems that way since fran(my healer) lands it 9 out of 10 times, but vaan or basch probably lands it 1/2 the time.

seriously, i hate changing to my Youchi(sp?) when a stupid flying mob aggros from sooooooooooo far.

I set gambits to Warp or Death any flying mob that aggros though. Works well for me :D

There really aren't any that work, at least not well enough to properly play game. The kind of computer needed to get even subpar quality is beyond high-end as well. Takes alot of power to completely emulate the hardware of a ps2 when you don't actually have that hardware installed :P

Bleh I wish there was a database of all the stats on every piece of equipment. I want to start putting Ashe/Penelo in mage gear, but in the vendor buy screen you can't see the increase in magic power, only magic resist, and that's all I really care about lol.

Does Mirror Mail have some sort of latent effect of occasionally negate damage? I had it equipped on Vaan and Basche while fighting Elder Wyrm @lvl 36 and he hit for 0 or double digits very often. Didn't realize that casting Haste and junk on themselves reflected it away so I took it off.

Then put it back on while I was running through the jungle and everything that aggro'd hit Basche for 0. My defense was only 43, so not sure what it was.

just learned how to do quickenings, got up to 7, going to unlock all of them now... got all the battle lores and swiftness for all 6 of my crew (keeping them all at same level, 29-30 atm). Basch and Vaan are doign 2k hit with deathbringers, I think Im going to go get the sword behind that wall

I bought the Canopis' pot in hopes ofg getting High arcana to drop from normal mobs on a regular basis for the final weapons, but all I seem to be getting is regular Arcana. IS there a place where I can hunt mobs that drop High arcana on a semi-regular basis? or is it just luck that makes the difference between High arcana and regular dropping.

only arcana drops i think, you get high arcana from bazaar by selling arcana+other mats

just clear a ton of hunts with a ton of points and kill some optional bosses, Montblanc gives you about 4 high arcana

I only see him giving out 2 in the strat guide, but there are some errors in it so im not too sure.

Also instead of killing NM im trying to farm the ingrediants and I need a Soul of Thamaus. I get one from a hunt but the others im not sure, the guide says they drop from overlords in Necrohol of Naburdis but currently im 0/32. any ideas?

the dad you rescue in estersand sitting on the dock talks about wanting to fish, then you gotta go get a rod and bring it back to him, i can't remember the place where you get the rod at. the fishing is wierd because he fishes and you call out what the fish is to him by pressing a certain button combination as it scrolls across the screen. getting 5 perfect rounds on a stream unlocks the next up to the 3rd, then you have to do something special to get the last 2.

Just beat it, took 68 hours over nine days, one thing I wonder, in the ending artwork if that one pic was cid, or balthier holding the baby. Had glasses but the face looked alot like balthier o.O;

so I was wandering around the mines, came up on tiamat accidently and proceeded to rape him like lbelle on a drugged penelo. level 30 characters for all 6, 2 deathbringers, no quickenings. hardly any healing, he looked pretty spiffy.

going to cap quickenings I think now and get the rest of the ability stuff, just got haste (yayyyy) and things are going well.
how far am I into the game, feels like I still have a lot to go for

got him to pop alright and he is friggen insane. He was hitting Basch for 3k-6k per hit at lvl 72..... thats way to much for me to handle, I lasted about 5 minutes before restarting my ps2 because I knew I wouldnt win at that rate.

It was pretty easy at 74 but required fairly heavy cure spam from my tank. I kept one character mainly just attacking with one dd/mage and ashe just spamming cures on herself. It got to the point where Fran had so much mp and ashe was so low I just cast Syphon on fran to refill ashe. I kept the characters in a triangle around BK's head so they could cast on each other and only ashe would be hit by aoe/breath. With all the casting I did on ashe she only got 3 attack turns the whole time, oddly one of them was a 5 hit combo lol.

Has anyone else noticed that these higher monsters don't seem to be blockable by shield? Hell wyrm, BK, and Fafnir never got blocked once. I went through 4 yiazmat lifebars without blocking a single attack too. I put on Ensanguined shield and a measure and it capped evasion at 100 and I still got hit by yiaz every time.

Would a Decoy -> Reverse gambit not work well on KB? Obviously someone else would have to cast it, but that way the tank doesn't take any damage and whoever is doing damage would just be sitting there swinging there for X amount of time.

You could but reverse seems to last a very short time. Tank could cast it on himself too (I'm probably misunderstanding you). The other problem is that reverse can miss. Seems easier to just meat tank most of this crap :x but that's just my style, it's ffxi pld crap. Haste+Inquisitor is enough mp refresh if your pt scores combos sometimes, you just need to balance the mp expenditure between your guys in what fashion you see fit.

It matters very little what levely ou are in regards to the damage you take, its all in what armor you have available to yuou at the point of the fight.

You can be level 15 and take as much per hit from King Behemoth as you would at level 99, provided you have the same armor on.

So level matters little, aside from a minor amount of vitality.

So, yeah...I finally got to playing again, and damn I'm loving this game.

I've been over leveled a bit so that none of the boss fights or hunts have been tough, until recently. :D

So, there I am going through Barhiem Passage, on my way to a hunt with everyone at Lv.40 to start. Lotsa mobs, kind of annoying since they cast -ga spells, but manageable. Find the hunt, flying only, no prob; kill with bows. Continue on killing stuff, I see there's a save crystal and an exit, so I decide to explore and come across Zalera.

"No problem," I think, as I do the usual...haste everyone, bravery and berserk the DD, equip the reverse-effect item and toss a remedy at the esper (HUGE ability, this is...seriously. It costs 30k to buy the accessory, but nothing's better than landing 5 statuses on a rank VII mark and making the fight cake :) ).

So, he starts off by having some kind of immunity, but it goes away eventually and I'm doing stupid amounts of damage very quickly.

I happen to see the combat log say something about "Zalera uses Prime Level Death" or some other such nonsense. As he's casting, though, I think for a minute, "wait...prime level...what's my party at? ...Level 41? OHSHI-!!!"

Yep, instant death for all. I swap in my other three characters and swap over armor and they proceed to continue the ass-kicking until "Zalera uses Prime Level Death" and...well, yeah...I had EVERYONE @ Lv.41.

Best fight in the game so far. Yes, I was horribly overpowered for this fight, but I found it awesome that I just happened to be at a level that didn't allow me to kill this guy normally (ended up using a quickening concurrence to win), and that's just cool.

Other notable fights so far: Elder Wyrm, just because of all the statuses he causes, and Roblon. Damn, those skeleton adds were annoying. At one point, I think Penelo got hit with literally every status there is (except death, I guess).

That's all for now, heading up to where Roblon spawns, just because the exp is so good.

Oh yeah, and having a Zodiac Spear at this point in the game rocks. :D

Ok, i read through this entire thread and I couldnt find a clear answer to this.

What is the difference between Light and Heavy armor (I understand to use Mystic armor for mage types)? But Heavy armor seems to increase Strength, Speed, and Defense. So does that mean that both tank and damage dealer type characters should equip Heavy armor, since it will make them hit harder, attack faster, and take less damage? I almost fail to see the point of Light Armor in this case?

Light armour increases your HP (which does as much good as it would in FFXI) and sometimes your SPD and VIT too. Also, you can't be encumbered by certain effects while wearing light armour.

But I tend to just use heavy armour on everyone except my mage. Also, if I expect the encumbering effect I use light armour.

Yeah, I love Zodiac Spear.<3 I managed to get two of them, which is more than enough.. I'd try getting a third but I feel like I've invested too much time into FF12 already lol

I know people are trying to do their own "challenges" with various handicaps they implement themselves. For example, some people will only use Vaan or some people will only play with as a Lv1 throughout the whole game (mostly found on GameFAQs msg boards).

I, personally, only played the game one time through and then put it back into its case. I'm so used to FFXI that I find games boring when they don't have updates with them >_>

I loved X-2's battle system, I think it's the best ATB system FF has ever created. I didn't mind the story, mainly because I had fun playing through the game. But if I had to judge it on story alone I would give it a huge thumbs down.

That's his choice though isn't it? I personally got 75ish by just running around place to place killing everything in my way then up to 90 by leveling in henne mines on bats. the result is the same though, since you still have to work your ass off to fight Omega MKXII or Yaizmaat.

Oh it's definitely by choice, but i'm just saying how automated the game is if you can leave it on all night and be capped by the time you get up.

I kind of view that type of playing the same as I would cheating through the game. You can do it that way but it won't be as fun (and if the game isn't fun then why play you know?) as working to achieve something legitimately.

I guess you could argue that it is a legitimate way to level up since there's nothing altering the system that is already there but I guess there are more active ways to play the game. Key word being play lol

What I like about FFXII is the play styles. Someone said (I think Xavier) that gambits are just doing repetitive things for me automatically that I don't have too. If you play the healer/support in FFXII you'll find a whole bunch of things to do, especially if you don't want to assign support gambits to your DD/Tank characters. Later stages of the game you have to manually cast Syphon on characters with MP so you don't run out (if anyone has a gambit that makes that happen then jesus) or manually cast Decoy because frankly running around casting Decoy is annoying and sometimes you can't afford to just cast the spell during a hard fight.

It is a pretty automated game, but I find there are levels of interaction and management that entertain me greatly, some of the later fights can be a matter of gambit trial and error finding the right mix to win or adjusting your existing gambit template to accommodate a new boss.

In my save I was playing the tank, while the other two chars were a healer/blm and rng/healer support. That way, I was still casting some stuff manually, butbecause I was the tank I didn't have a lot to do and I guess that's why I got bored with it.

Maybe I should try playing a white mage type, and basically do the healing spells and stuff like that by myself.. it could prove to be sort of challenging keeping my party members alive, and maybe it will actually give me something to do rather than just stand around watching for 10 mins (outside of casting Decoy because you're right, it's a dumb spell to gambit) and waiting for my group to kill the ring wyrm. >.>

white mage is a lot of fun, especially during hard fights (like a less than optimal Gilgamesh fight) where you have to keep on your toes otherwise you die a horrible death. Can be very manic when your tank is about to die and you go into "OHSHIT" mode trying to cure him/her.

Indeed is very cool... the only i always didn't like about FF series except FFXI is that when you change gear your character graphic clothes/gear stay the same i mean after ffvii, its a minor problem because story and game play is out of the question, i even liked ffx-2

As for the leveling discussion going on earlier...I leveled my 3 main toons from 60ish to 99 and the rest from 15ish to 99 farming the NM for the best dagger. Fuck that dagger. I still never got it and it made me stop playing the game before attempting the Omega and big dragon fights, lol.
