Is there any realistic reason a ranger should wear rnger necklace at Faf?

Gear was something like Franny, Selene's Bow, Wyvern Helm, neck, Minuet/Suppa (subbing war), Osode, Seiryu Kote, Rajas/str ring, amemet+1, rk belt +2, hume RSE pants and Goliard.

I just didn't get the neck/earrings.
I don't get what are you trying to say. You think there is/are other specific neck option than racc/ratk necklace?

OK, this is really bother me for long time:
Mercurial Sword : attacking up to 3 times or 4 times?

Is it just me or does Desperate Blows only work on Scythe and not all "Two-handed Weapons"? :(
From my tests the only noticebly effect from desperate blows was on Scythe. Has it always been like this? Debating on if I should send in a bug report :/

It definitely works with Great Sword too. :P

May I ask what great sword you used? My tests were with Algol and my Scythe was out swinging it with desperate blows fully merited :(

Yes, I think there are better alternatives to about half his gear. Belt could go Precise, neck could go PCC or Sea Gorget, Bow could be Ebow (only about 2m on my server now), Vision earring isn't a bad choice either...

It was just really surprising to see someone wearing ranger necklace while fighting faf. That's all. I know they have a lot of jobs at 75 so it's surprising they weren't wearing something like PCC. It's part of the "hey, i've played mage for over 300 levels, and no melee of mine is above 27, so help me learn why he'd set up the way he is." >.>

If you're using sushi you might not need the 5 extra Acc from PCC and it's a hell of a lot easier to get R.Acc than it is R.Att, so Ranger's Necklace isn't a bad trade off. He could have upgraded to a Jagd Gorget for 1 more R.Att but the point is moot. Not everyone has 2m to drop on a bow either and for like 1 hour a week or something Selene's is better then Ebow so did you /clock? Sea gorgets are only good on WSs, did you mean sea torque? Drop rates on those aren't extremely great so many people are still waiting on those, add in to the fact that it drops from a 2nd tier jailer and the patch that made virtues 100% isn't EXTREMELY old yet, not having a torque isn't rare. The RK belt isn't a bad choise if the regional control effect is good, did you check who owned the region and ask him if he had Signet? Que 914 + wall'o'text pic

neck, back, waist, rings and earrings won't cause you to blink, only weapon/sub/ranged, as well as body/feet/hands/legs/head.

ranger necklace isn't terrible, but on a mob like fafnir, even pre ranged acc fix, you want as much acc as possible. of course peacock charm isn't in everyone's means, but outside of a hope torque(or faith if xbow or gun) r necklace isn't terrible. that said, precise belt is like 200k, and is pretty much the best choice other than af2 belt. i gave up on my rk belt +2 a long time ago. it was just too random to get activated, and str/agi +2 isnt enough to justify wearing full time.

also, selene's bow is not a bad choice overall, tho except under very specific circumstances, ebow will always outperform it. and honestly, if you can level rng to 75, it means you either learned how to farm/craft, or how to ige, and either way, 2 mil isn't that bad. that said, unless you're a fully meritted archery ranger, at least from personal experience(mind you i haven't fought faf on rng in a long time, i tend to opt for sam or blm), gun will give you better results, primarily because a hellfire's gonna give you a little more acc, and the tp gain(17 a hit i think?) is very nice, particularly for barrages.

as for the rest of his gear, hume rse pants? or feet? b/c if he's wearing rse1 legs on fafnir, he should be kicked in the balls. rse2 feet however are very nice for humes b/c of str +3 and hp +60. i personally opt for af2 feet, as i like the 10 r att... also, unless he was trying to epeen, wyvern helm instead of ohat is just silly... in exp, of course its fine, but again, high evasion mob, that 10 r acc is too nice to pass up.

and franny is fine if he doesn't have kriegs... rangers(especially if he's eating sushi) have fairly decent accuracy overall, and that's a dmg 44(fran) or 48(kriegs) axe, which isn't gonna hit for 0 any more than any other melee, so can be useful in tp building.

By RDM atleast, yes. Very difficult with the 15 minute time constraint, but soloable.

Can BLU solo it? Since they have stun, B, P and S attacks and the ability to solo SC. Or those are still counted as magic?

I just did the second Mithra Trackers BC (letter from Y), the one with the low chance of droping weapons. Other people I know who have done this have always atleast got a crafting item from the chest, but our box was empty. Is this a glitch or just horible luck on my part?

Can Indra Katars proc on WS?

I think so since it doesn't seem anything different than your average triple/double+%, but it won't on Asuran.

I confirm this, you can triple on DK, raging. Can't on AF for obvious reasons.
Thanks.

I dunno if BLU could do it, since magical damage is long cast time (RDM does it with enspell), and ranged damage is long recast (for jetstream anyway). It would be a pretty mana-intensive fight.

how much HP Bv2 got?

assuming /war WS can do 1,5k dmg minimal, 1 SAM can do about 7-8 WS's in 30 sec, more maybe,
1500*7*4=42000 dmg

I've been hearing about soboro being better than hagun in some situations.

from what i gather it ivolves store tp. What's the ideal new setup for soboro or is it the same usualy +10 STORETP setup most sam already use?

soboro and hagun have the same delay, store TP has no effect on whether hagun or soboro is better (but the whole point of soboro is hitting as many weaponskills as you can, so you want a six hit setup anyway)

six hits is 45 total store tp, 25 base + 10 merits + 10 gear/food will get you there.

pre-patch, soboro was better for sam/rng (almost everywhere) and an option for sam/war (mostly in merits). hagun was the weapon of choice for everything endgame /war or /thf, excepting 300% TP weaponskills, most sam's used either butachi(+1) / ushikirimaru / onimaru for those.

post patch? it's all still up in the air.

just one quick note... it's 46 total store tp, which is mildly annoying, but considering that any good sam is gonna have a brutal earring, you pick up that .1 there. otherwise you can get the remainder from rajas + hachiman feet if you ws in hachiman, or rajas + hachiman hands if you ws in hume rse2 feet/rutters/askar. i haven't had a chance to merit since yesterday but i am interested in seeing how a soboro performs now that we got such a robust boost in our attack power.

trunc(11.5 * 1.45, 2) = 16.6 * 6 = 99.6 yeah ok. 46 store tp.

if it truncates to 2 decimal places it'll be 100.02 (I've never seen it actually tested) my understanding about soboro is that it hits ws about as hard post patch as pre-patch hagun did.

Concerning the new 2h update and lower levels <.>

Did the update have as large of an effect on lower levels as it did for endgame? Haven't heard much about DRG or DRK or SAM becoming better pre-75, I've only seen lots of endgame posts concerning it all. If I hop on my 33DRG will I be king? Or wut?

Anyone tried tossing one of the new ToAU completion rings to see if it can be replaced like the CoP ones?

Anyone getting different items from ??? Boxes? Just did 3 Counting sheep and got a Holy Bolt Quiver, and a Merrow Scale which aren't listed in Wiki.

Anyone else noticed if the main weapon's add effect stops proc'ing when using a grip with an added effect?

I was in Dynamis last night on DRG using Mezraq (add effect: lowers evasion) with a Platinum Grip (add effect: Stun). In the 3+ hours I only saw Stun proc (fairly frequently at that), never Evasion down. Was I just reeeaaaally unlucky or are grips and mainhand weapons like using an en-spell with a weapon that already has an en-effect- i.e. only the spell will work? Or in this case, only the grip's add effect works?

It's not hugely important as I'll be replacing that grip asap after some ODS runs but just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

well with a six hit setup, you get.
3+3 = 2 rounds (2 rounds with a ws before)
3+2+2 = 3 rounds (2 rounds with a ws before)
3+2+1 = 3 rounds (2 rounds with a ws before)
2+2+2 = 3 rounds (3 rounds with a ws before)
2+2+1+x = 4 rounds (3 rounds w/ws)
3+1+1+x = 4 rounds (3 rounds w/ws)

with seven hit setup you take
3+3+x = 3 rounds (2 rounds w/ws)
3+2+2 = 3 rounds (3 rounds w/ws
3+2+1+x = 4 rounds (3 rounds w/ws)
2+2+2+x = 4 rounds (3 rounds w/ws)
2+2+1+2 = 4 rounds (4 rounds w/ws)
2+2+1+1+x = 5 rounds (4 rounds w/ws)
3+1+1+1+x = 5 rounds (4 rounds w/ws)

so you lose a little less than a round on average. (so it's slightly less valuable) but in general 6 hits vs 7 hits you still save one round.

in general though (I at least) was actually holding two different discussions at the same time: 1) what sort of store TP would you need, w/ and w/out sword strap delay reduction. and 2) is soboro better now that the fTP gap between hagun and non-hagun is smaller? (I'm interested how soboro compares to a good D:80 gkt too, like ushikiri or shinsoku or kumokiri)

Sirroco Add Effect gets over-written by en-spells.

I think the general formula is that Spell/Accessory[Strap] Add effects overwrite Default Weapon Add Effects

Try out stap, en-spell, and elemental staff. En-spell will probably win, but only one way to find out for sure.

How gimp is COR/WHM? Is it feasible to use COR as a support-only job in XP from 1 to 75 (in other words, little or no DD output from the COR), or would this be a waste of a party slot? This is assuming no XP static. Yeah, I'd want to xp it like a bard and be on the cheap.

-% damage will be better in the kind of range you're talking about,(definitely the +1 body and likely the +1 head too) but I can't be arsed to work all the numbers right now. (I started on it, then stopped again.) I could build the comparison formula pretty quickly except you'd still need to know a ton of shit to make it useful so I didn't.

it would significantly simplify the calculations if you gave me the rest of the setup's total vit and def, and then which pieces you were considering in particular; but I can't promise a time for a definite answer.

Who/what is Zi'Tah, and why does he/she/it/they have a sanctuary?
Quoted for attention lol. Do any of you FFXI history buffs know about this? Was it ever explained?

The coniferous forest that is at the entrance to the Li'Telor region. At noon little light reaches the forest floor, blocked by trees that are thousands of years old. However throughout the forest are crystals that are illuminated and shine onto their surroundings eerily even during the day. Here was believed by the people of Vanadiel to be the region of gods, and was rare for people to visit unless on pilgrimage to Ro Maeve, or Goblin Highwaymen.

I'm curious about a lot of the zone names and how they got those names.

Yes, for much lulz.

(For example, if a PLD flashes him as running in, he can draw in everyone(behind him slightly) and use flail. A fun way to start a run! I would suggest a Stun or two at the start to let everyone get into position).

a lot of folks seem to suggest opening with either a stun or a sleep to allow folks to get into position for ksnm99. even if he doesn't flail because of an eager pld, he likes opening with breath, straight down the tunnel where everyone is rushing towards. and yeah, flails are not fun on him b/c it pretty much means the orb is lost. correct me if im wrong tho, wyrm, like CoP wyrms, can't flail in the air.

(For example, if a PLD flashes him as running in, he can draw in everyone(behind him slightly) and use flail. A fun way to start a run! I would suggest a Stun or two at the start to let everyone get into position).

Get PLD to disband and reinvite asap. He can rejoin pt when he is ready then everyone go and run up and position on feets. Thats what we do and it works awesome. Prevents whole alliance from getting drawn in too.

Have the mages and any melee run to the sides (around 4 or 8 o'clock with the tank/entrence ramp at 6) of the arena (it can be done with out agro). Once the tank engages, they can move in. I've never seen a draw-in flail in the begining, though I have seen it breath a few time, and those who run in with the tank eat it.

thf+rdm can duo fairly decently, thf+brd+rdm is usually win np.
A well-geared NIN works fine in place of the THF, that's what I do anyways.

NIN (or possibly a MNK/NIN with good evasion gear) might be better due to more Subtle Blow for duoing purposes. It didn't seem to have TP regen back when I used to fight it. I remember doing it with five people, the hardest part was outclaiming the Sky RMTs who camped it too.

I'm not sure if they ever changed this, but Roc and Simurgh are the 2 most accurate mobs in the game as far as I know. They just plain don't miss. It doesn't make them hard, but you can take a 75 THF and I'd say it'll still have a good 90+% accuracy.

Roc was very accurate when I was farming him. I recently killed Simurgh and it missed me quite often. (I'm a NIN)

iirc (go ahead and flame me if i'm wrong) that weather is known to have an impact on aggro radius of mobs. the effect of light weather in sky is to dramatically increase the visual acuity of the dolls in the alcoves, causing them to basically aggro at any distance making the front pathway to the palace, a gauntlet of death.

Logically that kind of makes sense, but i've asked a whole bunch of people, some of who were like "That's total crap, i've done sky for years and that's NEVER happened to me, or anyone I know" and a few who were like "Yes, i've heard that quite a few times as well, but i've never seen it happen, but I believe it's possible". If anyone would know for sure it'd be sky RMT, so need a chinese translator! That, or some people who had it happen to them.

Personally, I don't believe it's impossible, after all, in Ro'Maeve during certain moon phases you can walk up the stairway in the middle, or dependant on weather, you can trade that R/EX item for your Ark Pentasphere, so the programming to make it happen is probably already there?

serket isn't bad, but it's also fairly expensive. if you're feeling ritzy, go for it, but the chances you're going to need the extra MP over an ether isn't that high. as for the vermy, absolutely. MP only functions as a buffer, it's very literally a pool to draw from. if you never scrape the bottom or fill up completely, MP gear is wasted. refresh, on the other hand, enhances your endurance, your ability to KEEP that MP pool from degrading. having an additional refresh tick can easily make the difference between you getting that cure3 off to save your tank from your brain damaged whm and from him eating pavement. the short answer to your question is yes, both are good, the longer answer is that serket's more of a luxury good while vermy is, while not essential, very much more valuable, imo.

The job you are using to talk him. Was always like that, doesnt really matter what previous AF mission you did, as long you completed the weapon and started the 2nd.

Did you complete the Boghertz quest for BRD and RDM? You can leave other AF quests open, but to get the Boghertz quest for other jobs you can't have it open on another job.

ex: I still have BRD body quest open (and completed hands), but when I get PLD high enough, I'll get the Boghertz quest for PLD hands.

Is that clear? I may have confused myself here :?

What's the right sub for my soon to be 50 (48 and a half right now) Samurai? I got a soboro the other day and was reading the Ringthree3 thread about Brutal Earring. Do I continue with /thf even though Warrior finally gets double attack at sam50/war25? Should I be using /drg for Jumps?

I'm too poor to be /rng I'm afraid.

Sub WAR.

Enpi/Jinpu are pretty lame, and the fact that you are using soboro makes them even weaker. With that in mind, the name of the game is DoT, and Berserk is the best way to augment that. And even if you want to argue that Double Attack JT will somehow hurt Soboro performance, don't forget that the Soboro multi-hit won't proc on weapon skills but the JT does. Subbing THF just isn't worth it.

Prepatch I took SAM/WAR 50-72 with Soboro and I outparsed every single person I came up against, with the exception of another Soboro-wielder who happened to have better gear than I did. Its a lot of fun :)

please correct me if i'm wrong, i'm not a melee so it's very plausible, but when subbing thf, isn't the only effect of SA to force the next hit to crit? from what i've read on the boards here, it seems like normal hits are pushing well and good into the crit range, making SA almost obsolete, assuming the nerf bat doesn't hit too hard when it comes. as such, there would be very little reason at all to sub thf on sam, even at the lower lvl range, since things like attack boost and berserk from /war would be so attractive.

I read the same, but even eating Chiefkabobs and with as much +attack gear as I can possibly attain (including Okotes, republic sub, walkure mask, earrings, swordbelt+1, hasso, etc) I still see Tachi:enpi (no SA) do 180avg on ITs and with 120-180TP Sneak Attacks I see 390-483 on Enpi. That was off last night's parse at 47-48 against Rumble Crawlers.

/thf is a horrible sub for soboro sam (but you can get away with it at 50 because soboro still does good per hit damage)

you will be weaponskilling really frequently and hitting a lot with a soboro - so increasing the damage you do every single hit (with /war) will significantly outweigh the (still 1/min) crit bonus to enpi/jinpu.

personally, I've been using sam/nin since the update, but that may not be entirely necessary at 50.

grats on the soboro though talisien^^

Thanks Amele^^ Got it at the cost of a 7 hour camp and enough drama bombs to start a third world war, but it was worth it.

I've been considering /nin now when I don't get a group with a Pally, but I've been lucky enough to have a RDM + WHM in most of my parties, so I just soak up the extra healing. I'll have to see what my gear translates soboro into (only missing Voyager sallet I think, though once I hit 60 my gear will turn crappy again (need a swift belt)). I can tank once my SA WS goes off since the mob is at 30% after bursts, but with Soboro if I'm firing off at 100 10 seconds into the fight, I'm gonna be tanking the whole way home.

I was an old school SAM, back when melee actually SCed and the like, SAM was sometimes expected to sub THF to close with Gekko. I personally stopped leveling SAM for a while because people expected me to sub THF and it just plain sucked. Apart from that, there are people who still actually sub thf for the bigger WS damage (They still don't understand DoT). Shit, I had a SAM who was subbing RNG, after the 2h update was spamming sidewinder on Mamool (Nyzul) with Scorpion Arrows :? . I think a lot of the time some people lack the ability to know when to sub what jobs.

Just go with /WAR, it's more DoT and personally I think one of if not the best subjobs for every melee class in FFXI. (Yes I know it's also a great main job)

yes and no, soboro is still wrank capped and still has a base damage of only 40.

assuming your r.acc is good enough then it just comes down to brass tacks between:
52+75%~str * large_pdif * 1.75 vs 129+~16%str+~25%agi * smaller_pdif * 5.0

I suspect that's a close enough competition (especially if you have a piercing bonus) to make it an option in some places.

if you're using hagun it's a bit closer, since both will be wrank 8 it'll be:

91+75%~str * m_pdif * 2.0 vs 129+~16%str+~25%agi * r_pdif * 5.0

which will mostly come down to whether .75str is enough to make up .16str+.25agi+38 and whether m_pdif is large enough compared to r_pdif to make up the 2.0 vs. 5.0 fTP.

Ok, this is my understanding on the matter. I have a good grasp of the math that is used (Its really quite simple), and I've had the conversation with Nagamaki (hes my LS leader ironically) and this is basically how it goes:

Single-hit WS: Gorget is going to win.

Lower-Number-Multi-Hit WS: Gorget is going to win if your ACC is decent at all. Examples of this would be with WS's such as Shark Bite. This also Happens with Jin, if say your using Sushi and keep a high ACC during WS. If your ACC isn't high in WS gear for example, PCC will end up showing better numbers.

High-Number Multi-hit WS: PCC Is going to win the majority of the time. By majority I mean any time your not fighting something that you have 95% ACC rate on in WS gear and your WS isn't more than say, 4 hits.

Thats basically how it works in short. If you go by number of hits, Gorget=1-2 (3+4 Sometimes) PCC=5+ hits.

Fact of Fiction: Ru'Aun Gardens + Light Weather + Lightday = Groundskeeper (or maybe pot too?) become sight aggro? A few people mentioned this like it was common knowledge, but i've never experienced it that I can remember, or heard any stories of like "Holy shit they all aggro'd us", someone must have an interesting story if this is true?

Like Bagel said, I'm pretty sure they've fixed this.

I've personally had this happen to me during Light Weather (not sure of day). And it wasn't because I was closer than usual, it was walking/running in the same routes I usually run.

Example: Walking in the middle of Despot hall would get you aggro. When traveling island to island, I couldn't walk along the edge without getting aggro.

Note: This only applied to the Groundskeepers in the walls which are already sight aggro. Light Weather only seemed to enhance their aggro range.

Yes.

and it's awesome.
Best way to lose a limbus, ever.

I see. I'll be more careful next time I'm there.

Setting: Two BLMs duoing fafnir clone.

Plot: "I'm a DRG and I'm going to attack fafnir from behind while he binded"

Moral: That DRG was stupid.

that's an easy choice, you can't use any of the other ones currently.

so unless you're about to level a ranger corsair or mage job get the melee ring, or wait.

Why do Samurais use Hachiman Kote+1? Like I know a few of the Sams that surf these forums do, Rukenshin, Richardd, ect. But I just don't see why you would take Kote+1 over Sune-ate.
Stats run down:
Kote+1 + Fumas = STR+5 Haste+3%
Okote + Hachiman Feet = Atk+20 STR+2 OR Dusk + Hachiman Feet HAste+3% Atk+5 STR+2.
So why do Sams continually wear these?

Using Store TP+5 and Store TP+9 is the exact same thing if your aiming for a 6 hit. Unless you merit Zanshin I guess?
Edit: I think I figured it out, the extra +4 Store TP during TP gain phase lets you WS in STR gear instead of Store TP? Please tell me if this is right.

SamanosukeShiva
09-08-2007, 10:23 PM
that is correct, you can WS in alky instead of hmn kote and get 16TP back, +17TP x5hit you'd still ended up with 101TP at the 6th hit.

and i guess relic GK is also have 437 delay, which require abit more store TP to have 6hit set up, but that doesnt matter anymore after you do the 1st kaiten which give like +10 store TP.

Does going up a floor in temenos count as zoning?

Reason I ask is cos we had a stupid moment where we rushed something and 4 peeps died near the tele to the last floor. The remaining handful went up and we expected to be able to get up. Also tonberries did not reset and were constantly making the 'hello, I'll be your aggro for today' noise. Never really come up before >.>. The guys upstairs tried to finish but wiped without any real healing and then the berries reset.

No-one on for me to test with at the moment, does Minne get multiplied by food/ja?

I guess similarly for attack and minuet and food/ja as well.

Just testing on BLU/WAR with a Taco, 326 base def goes to 411 with taco, then 411 + (411*1.25) + (411*1.5) = 718 with both Defender and Cocoon. Is Minne added onto the base pre food? Post food pre-defender?

Minne 3+4 with +1 instrument give 100def, so can I expect:
426(429 with taco vit) *1.25 > 536 + 134 + 268 = 938 ?
326(329) *1.25 > 411 + 100 = 511 + 127 + 255 = 893 ?
326(329) *1.25 > 411 + 102 + 205 = 718 + 100 = 818 ?

Not too important, just interested and as I said, no-one on to test minnes with..

On "attack" case, the order is minuet -> atk food -> berserk
so probably it's the same for defense: minne -> def food -> defender/coccoon

Just two quick random questions.

1. For KSNM 30 - Operation desert storm, does scrops build a sleep resist rate?

2. If a negative buff such as Burn/Elegy was casted on a player with stoneskin up, do they get the negative stats?

I'm fairly sure no. I've wiped in a manaburn before, and we just reraised and started over with no problems.

Yes, you do. Stoneskin will only prevent the -hp on the dots for the elemental debuffs.

4 m.acc give a better accuracy than 5int/mnd according to most test, but I would go with mnd/int for potency, unless it doesnt matter for that spell (aspir, drain, sleep) or stuff that resist a ton.

As far as I know, going up a floor in limbus doesn't count as zoning. The tonberries still had hate on the people who ported up, but couldn't get to them, so they stayed active at the teleporter until everyone had died and hate was finally reset completely. I believe the dead people could have reraised and ported up without aggro as long as they did nothing else. Performing any sort of action like casting a spell or using an item on themselves would've gotten the tonberries' attention because of the funny alliance hate system in limbus.

Tried out the NQ while skilling up on Robber Crabs in Boyahda Tree. Proc'ed once every 2-3 mobs or so, had it proc twice on the same mob only once the whole 2 hours I was there. I know you asked for VT-IT mobs, but I assume the proc rate would only be worse on higher lvl mobs.

someone estimated ~6.25% in one of the patch information threads (not sure which) on the +1 grip. depending on how fast you were killing this might be consistent.

i think they do, but i know mob resistance resets if they go unclaimed and heal to full. you can see this in mobs that become grav immune (that immunity builds FAST on many mobs) but if you wipe, reset, and try again, it will forget its immunity.

Can someone give me some help understanding TP return and weapon skills?

I get 14tp on a typical swing (i'm a 52 sam/war with soboro and +6 store tp) so I assume that # is 14.x (does someone have that formula handy?) because I (according to other people) have a 7 hit setup, I haven't really tested it.

Anyways, on Weapon skills I get the following #s for Tachi: Jinpu and Tachi: Enpi:

0 - Miss
1 - This is when I miss on both hits but a double attack goes off?
13 - This is a hit/miss no double attacks I think
14 - This is a hit/hit I think
15 - This is a hit/hit + double attack
16 - This is a hit + double attack / hit + double attack

I guess I'm asking a few things, 1) Is that little list right? 2) Can soboro proc on weapon skills? 2a) Is a soboro proc treated like a double attack? 3) What's the formula for tp return on a swing, and why does my base swing give 14.x but a 1 hit of my ws give less than that.

Thanks!

this first hit gives your normal tp gain (in this case, 14.4 TP per hit) the second hit gives 1, each connected double attack gives 1.

the tp return you should expect to see (unless you are macroing out your store TP gear for ws) is:

0 - no hits,
1 - missed primary, hit 1 secondary
2 - missed primary, hit 2 secondary (second hit + DA or something)
3 - missed primary, hit 3 secondary (second hit + 2 DA.. this is super unlikely)
14 - hit primary
15 - hit primary+ 1 secondary hit
16 - hit primary + 2 secondary (second hit + DA)
17 - hit primary + 3 secondary (second hit + 2 DA.. this is super unlikely)

if you macro out the store TP gear for weaponskill, then you will get 1 less TP on the WS returns

store TP at 50 is 20 from trait, +6 from gear. store tp works like: TP * (1+StoreTP/100) so TP * 1.26 in this case.

TP for a 450 delay weapon is 11.5

soboro can't proc on weaponskills.

So *this* is why I've been spotting a few 99s in my log again lately. I should be keeping in the +6 during WS so that a 13 + 14.4x6 (=99) doesn't occur.

What do people do on multi-hit weaponskills in terms of accuracy, do you watch for your TP return and make sure you're getting double hits? Or do you just load on the strength anyways? Now that I know I'm getting around 30% single hit WS in my full str gear, maybe I'll rethink this...

Thanks Amele.

This is coming from BLU/vorpal blade perspective

my full DW vorpal TP return is 13, If I got 12TP+ quite frequently, I consider my accuracy is good (4 out of 5 hits) and can load STR gear if there's other slot I can load STR with minimal accuracy penalty.

sam: focus on accuracy until you get tachi: yukikaze, you'll do more damage landing both hits than you will pumping a single hit on enpi and jinpu.

once you have tachi: yuki, have enough accuracy to *hit* and load strength from there. (remember, you need less accuracy to land one hit 85% of the time than you need to land 2 hits 85% of the time, no matter how counter-intuitive that sounds)

only use enpi or jinpu after you get yuki if it's absolutely critical for a skillchain (hint: it's probably not)

There's no way slugshot capped at 843 only unless you're using incredibly weak ranged weapons + ammo

Short answer : you're in cRatio range 0.9~1.1 of ranged pDIF. If there was no defense down in any kind of form, adding 2 effects would bring your damage up (i.e. Dia II and acid bolt or frightful roar).

What would be generally considered the most "efficient" way for getting a 6-hit setup for SAMs? That is, getting 6-hit while compromising as little as possible. Given that you need ~45 Store TP for a 6-hit (450 delay GKT), and 25% comes from SAM JTs themselves, assuming no access to Askar or Usukane, where would you get the extra 20?

Some possibilities:

Rajas 5
Merits 0-10
Hachiman Kote 8
Hachiman Sune-ate 5
Chivalrous Chain 1
Brutal Earring 1

You may need a little more than 45 Store TP if you use a different setup for the WS hit (e.g. Alky instead of possibly Hachiman Kote), so what if that's factored as well?

Or is the whole 6-hit thing not worth it to begin with?

it is worth it. 46 store tp is how much you need.

you must weaponskill in 46 if you want the benefits of the 6 hit setup.

25 (trait) + 10 merits leaves you with 11 to get in gear.

the easiest setup in terms of slots is brutal + rajas + hachiman feet. you should use dusk gloves or myo+1 hands for TP probably.

alternately, hachiman kote + rajas will do it too (without the brutal) I'd use either amir boots or fuma's for TP.

hachiman kote +1 will allow you to weaponskill in just rajas+brutal, but are much more expensive.

you could also weaponskill in myochin haidate+1 and chivalrous chain if you wanted to use (say) amir feet and enky's for ws.

if you don't have b.haidate, I'd recommend using myo legs+1, chivalrous, fuma's over shura haidate, justice torque, hachiman. (personal preference for haste).

it is worth it. 46 store tp is how much you need.

you must weaponskill in 46 if you want the benefits of the 6 hit setup.

This isn't necessarily true.

Example:

While meleeing you have:
25 traits
10 merits
5 rajas
8 hachiman kote

Total 48 Store TP, 17 TP per hit.

On weaponskill you have:
25 traits
10 merits
5 Rajas

Total 40 Store TP, 16.1 TP per hit.

You're free to use whatever STR gear you please on WS with no concern for store TP (alky's instead of hachiman kote, rutters instead of sune-ate, etc)

WS in 40 store TP = 16.1 TP

5 hits @ 48 store TP = 85 TP

Total TP after WS + 5 hits = 101.1

Allows freedom to max STR on WS while still maintaining a 6 hit setup.

For Corsairs/Fishermen

For AF2(legs) im having problems fishing up the Hydrogauge. I have tried the following all off Whitegates Northern fishing Docks:

Composite Rod with Lugwoms, Rogue Rig, Little worms
Mithran Fishing rod with Rogue Rig, Little worms
Tarutaru Fishing rod with little worms and Rogue Rig.

none of which has worked after 15 hours of fishing. All of the above are based on friends(all who are 60+ cor) and what they used aswell as ffxiclopedia. So what did everyone use to fish up this item for Af2? and possibly where.

- racc ringx2 (horn, is it? I forgot), or you're trying to refer to earring slots?
- don't bother switching, there's only very few pieces you can choose to boost your damage. on top of it, WS multiplier still low

Just need a simple fast reply. Because im oriented to controller style play and heavily rely on macros, is there a command line to cancel such effects on yourself, like berserk, hasso, etc?

i.e. I want to be able to have a macro that will first cancel Hasso, than activate Seigan, followed by activating Third eye.

What would the macro look like?

No, there is no command line to remove effects from yourself. Thankfully Seigan/Hasso overwrite eachother, so there is no need for manual cancellation.

Oh hahah wow, shows how long I haven't been in touch with using my SAM sub. It's honestly been since the first release of hasso and seigan that I have gone /SAM anywhere. Is my memory just wrong when I thought that at the time I had to manually cancel one of the effects to have the other activate?

Anyways still curious if there is a command line to remove effects?

I'm not sure that this thread is the right place for completely random "what if" speculation, but I'm going to go with this for a second.

Yeah, it would be fun. For about 5 minutes. And then the cold cruel realization would sweep over me that I now not only had to keep the entire party hasted and cured, but also enspelled :|

And besides, enspell damage would be biased towards one-handed duel wielders. Do you really want to give out more biased advantages when the game is finally starting to become somewhat balanced?

How much strength do I need to replace Okotes on a weaponskill?

Is it as simple as saying 70% modifier means I need 30str to replace an okote? This obviously seems impossible.

Also is there a quick and dirty way to check how I'm balancing attack/strength for a WS? I've heard this is key to improving your WS numbers.

By the by, I'm a Sam and am mostly concerned with Tachi:Yukikaza and it's brethern (there's no functional difference right?).

easiest answer: parse.

slightly more difficult answer, if you know your cRatio without anything in the hand slot vs. a typical level 70 monster, (a D-class VIT, war/war level 70 has defense ~281, so your cRatio at level 60 would be: ATT/281 - 0.05 * dLVL -> in this case, ATT/281 - 0.5.

and you can approximate your fstr value (a D-class VIT war/war level 70 has vit ~67) your fstr in this case is (STR - 67 + 4) / 4, capped at DMG/9+8 rounded down. (for soboro this is 12 max)

then you can compare (D+fstr1) * (cRatio1*1.2 - 0.4) * .75*str where fstr1 is the above fstr, and cRatio1 is your cRatio +0.07 (20/281) and str is your strength without the pallas's bracelets.

vs. (D+fstr2) * (cRatio2*1.2 - 0.4 ) * .75(str+9) where cRatio2 is the above cRatio, and fstr2 is the above fstr, with your strength 9 points higher recalculated.

if you'd like, PM me and I'll help you fill in all the calculations to see where you're at.

to answer the implied str vs. att. it's good to have lots of both, so you should generally go for whichever gets you the 'most' bonus in any particular slot (remembering that 1 str is also 1 att now)

tl;dr. personally, with my gear setup, I replaced the okotes with pallas's immediately after the update, (at 65) before, I wasn't sure, so I was mostly just using okotes.

What, if anything, does magic-bursting Sleep do? More duration?

For whatever reason doing Dynamis-Windurst a few days ago people kept making Darkness on Monk mobs which would Hundred Fists immediately after and they'd get slept and move on to a diff mob until it wears off. It happened a bunch of times, but I never got to time it and they usually got finished off before they would have awakened anyway. :?

correct. bursting elegy does not increase the potency of slow, nor does bursting frost increase the DoT of it (i don't think at least...) on the other hand, if you happen to be having trouble sticking elegy and your melees happen to be making a darkness SC or something like that, bursting elegy can help a lot in sticking it. then again, if a mob is already eating an SC and an MB, there's probably not much of it left to be worth it. ^^

From what I remember hearing, hand-to-hand was originally going to allow people to equip two one-handed weapons. (Like dual wield, but only hand-to-hand weapons.) You would have delays based off of each weapon equipped, but damage increases as well. Some of the Dark Stalker mobs in Eldieme Necropolis and Fei'Yin have a single hand-to-hand weapon equipped. (Like this (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Image:Western_Shadow.jpg).)

has anyone tried an extreme chr build for blu, for casting eyes on me? i've seen reference to people trying marginal ones, however the only numbers i've turned up were from a single post about fighting ouryu and the individual did not have a heavy chr build for it, nor did he explore the effect of MAB on it. with yigit gear, moldavite, memento mori, and uggly pendant, there's no end of MAB a blu can stack, and with gear like mahatma pants, chr is not hard either. does anyone know of a solid test on it that's already been conducted? having just dinged 61 last night, i've had no chance to experiment on my own, however i'd be more interested in the results a 75 blu could produce with proper gear on higher end targets (like ouryu or something in that category.) the post i found did mention that he saw no resists, which may have its uses on mobs i can't think of off the top of my head. perhaps i'm just overthinking things though.

Always use the high DMG rated weapon in your mainhand as that is what gets the most hits in on WS.

Spekkio
09-18-2007, 12:42 PM
delay is calculated based off a sum of the two delays and reduced by a %. the % is dependent upon the level of dual wield you have. meanwhile, the damage per hit is calculated individually. on a normal attack round, it doesn't matter which hand hits first, the stronger or the weaker (unless maybe there's something to do with an add effect, but idk about that, ask someone smarter.) on the other hand, weapon skills have a certain number of hits with each hand, (iirc all ws have 1 or more main hand swings and exactly 1 offhand. don't quote me, ask someone smarter.) and as such, you want your harder hitting weapon to swing more times. since the main hand always gets more swings than your off, and is the one that swings for double attacks on ws (i think. again, someone smarter. is it the only one that swings on a normal double attack too?) you want to make sure you put your stronger weapon in the main slot, as the above poster stated.

Extremely basic question, sigh :(

How much +ACC gear should I be shooting for in a standard meritting TP setup, assuming my goal is to eat meat? Really, I guess, I'm wondering what the point is where I can stop downing sushi for the auto-cap on ACC and get greater returns from the large ATK boost. Basics; MNK, so A+ combat skill rating (stuck with sushi forever on NIN, meh), 8/8 H2H merits, will of course vary between Mamool/Trolls/Colibri/lolMire. Minimal ACC in my TP build currently puts me right at +32, swapping Turban for OHat is pretty much the only change I make currently when I don't eat sushi for a total of +42. I've heard that you want to aim for anywhere from +20 to +40 ACC over when EXP mobs start checking Low Evasion for an acceptable hit rate, so clearing that up would be enormously helpful. :?

Also, Rajas Ring; worth it to wear fulltime? It puts me over 10 TP/round with Destroyers, so I've been going Sniper's/Rajas since I got the blasted thing, but I see tons of monks still going dual Sniper's/Woodsman.

+5(C.chain)
+3(Fowling Earring)

+4(TOA Ring)
+10(Life belt)
+7(Shura legs)
+44 Raw accuracy

+5 DEX (Hauby)
+5 (Rajas)
And +10 DEX

+55 Total accuracy and full GKT merits, i parse 93%ish accuracy at Nyzul isle birds(without madrigal), and 85% ish at Mamool Ja staging point (taking into account flash and warm-up)

With madrigal a MNK should be able to hit near accuracy cap at most exp camps

RandomLurker
09-18-2007, 05:39 PM
Unless you're talking pre-patch you also have an extremely large accuracy bonus via base DEX; Comparing apples and oranges. Realistically the only camps that meat is a 'trouble' for some MNKs is North thickets/Nyzul mamools. Personally I use sushi at nyzul mamools and push H.pie and acc heavy setup for north thickets, including things like Noritsune Kote (instead of attack hands), Minuet earring (instead of merman's) and Ohat for Infiltartors/Lurkers. Save Focus for Lurker pulls, and make sure your bard/s are competant enough to play madrigal when these are your target. If youre looking for a number, youre going to want over 50 from gear for the more evasive mamools with meat.

Wont say much about rajas since many people feel differently about it, but it isn't particularly useful for MNK if you allready own 2 Acc rings allready.

Faced with a dilemma: I was planning on taking up SAM to 75 next (and BLM after that), but after thinking about the new jobs available in the expansion and how they'll change general party configurations and job usefulness... should I do BLM first and SAM after? BLM is really the only big magical damage dealer, and SAM is hardly alone in their respective category, so I figure it would be more worthwhile to do BLM first. As far as gear and other jobs go, SAM is pretty much a free ride to 75 save GKT purchases, lol. I have some higher-level gear left over from RDM I can use on BLM, but otherwise I'd need to invest in all that fun stuff. Merits-wise, I'm completely melee-based.

Kung fu's: They probably are going to be equal/better than fumas/feddy kyahan, but kick bonus isnt terribly noticeable pre-KA2, coupled with the fact you likely wont have merit-like acc. It will be marginal either way, if you own Sarutobi/fuma kyahan for another job, I would just use those.

Solo dobsonfly: Pretty sure its possible. If you search KI BLU forums theres a topic there about soloing it with pinecone bomb (damages + sleeps), which actually involves not dying as much as dot+rr.

You sure can, sub /nin(tonko and utsusemi won't aggro the clusters), bring a hell of a lot of reraise charges, and just keep tapping it down with bio2 and poison. The main problem is just staying alive and keeping claim while it dies. Blm/nin probably better so you can finish off with an ES nuke, thou I never tried on blm.

I tried the blu method for kicks, but it's really all luck. Pinecone bomb accuracy sucks, and the sleep duration is wonky. If you ever miss a pinecone bomb, you're going to die, and the mob is going to regen to full. Thou I guess when you take failures into account, you still might not die as much as rdm or blm needs to. Just bring a lot of squid sushi (and yag drinks?) if you want to try blu method. I got one fly kill and maybe like 3-5 deaths on blu.

EDIT: Just to elaborate on how it works on blu; wait until a lone dobsonfly is relatively close to the portal, than pinecone bomb it. Run through portal and back quickly to reset hate, than immediately pinecone bomb it again when it wakes up. When it get's low on health, 25-33% ish? Use 2hr if it's up, than CA jet stream, this does pretty huge damage to it, spam bludgeon and whatever else you have equipped if it's still alive. Interesting thing to note, if you one-shot the fly at low health while unclaimed, it will not aggro the rest of the flies, so it's technically possible to do this without dying, however you will die if you magic aggro a cluster like I did at the end. :D

I know that some 3hr food can be made into 30 min food. Judging by the stats, is there any reason to get a 30 min food over the 3 hr food? Disgard price and stackable.

Example.

30 min food.

Effects for Coeurl Sub:
MP +10
Strength +5
Agility +1
Intelligence -2
HP Regeneration While Healing +1
Resist Stun
Resist Sleep
Attack +20% (Cap: 75@375 Base Attack)
Ranged Attack +20% (Cap: 75@375 Base Ranged Attack)

3 hour food

Effects for Coeurl Sautee:
Strength +5
Agility +1
Intelligence -2
Resist Stun
Attack +20% (Cap: 75@375 Base Attack)
Ranged Attack +20% (Cap: 75@375 Base Ranged Attack)

Short time event/ if you often die / pick up PT where mostly won't stay for 3 hrs

I only have one piece of haste gear, but I'm interested to see how haste macros work, can I simply do this:

/console exec haste.txt
/ma "utsusemi: ichi" <me>
/recast "utsusemi: ichi"
/console exec tp.txt

Because I tried that and it seemed like the second /console command (to equip my tp gear) failed to activate most of the time. Do I need to put a /wait 1 after the /recast ? Or is it better to just have two separate macros for this.

Actually I guess this question is also for WS too (replace /ma utsu with /ws "blah" and the haste with ws.txt). Do people that use windower macros typically have a separate button press for their tp gear, or do they contain it all in one macro, and if the latter, how do you do that.

Thanks very much.

Yes, use a /wait 1 after recast, maybe a bit more like 1.5 if you still have problems with it.

Not to mention, recast is calculated at the end of the spell, so you aren't getting any benefit from that haste gear if it switches back as soon as you start casting..

Cast time = calculated at the start of the spell
Recast = calculated at time of spell taking effect

Most likely. I trio'd it with RDM PLD SAM (well technically four-man because of the lowbie RDM with us, but she was half dcing the whole time anyways).

75Nin? yes, otherwise depending on the level, maybe.

75nin and a mage should be able to duo all AF3 mobs iirc.

I think a thread in the events forum found it to be ~5% haste from the set bonus, not counting the haste stats on the armors themselves.

If you ballista its a pretty nice sub for MNK and SAM from time to time, other than that, there aren't many practical instances where you'll end up needing it.

Attack earrings until suppa/brutal, macro eris' into voke if you want to bother with that, otherwise eris' fulltime. You really shouldn't need HP gear in exp ever. Evasion gear is nice to have around, especially when you're in a party with little support, but you should be able to go all out DD gear comfortably with a brd and/or rdm.

NIN MNK SAM RDM BLM are your 75's? then no dont bother lving 37DRG. after the SAM update the only job that really uses /DRG anymore is DRK cause its a way to get extra haste and acc w/o screwing with casting

I prefer to leave enmity merits alone.

IMO; I'd say if you're still using brd and blm at least 30% of the time, then the -enmitys are fine, and won't really affect your tanking skills on PLD, but will benefit your brd/blm to a degree that its worth it.

Isn't MNK/DRG in exp still decent? With Wyvern earring for haste and the acc bonus trait. I remember it being on par with /war in KRT back in the day. I dunno about birds or Mamools now though.

/DRG vs /WAR

I don't see how +10 acc & jumps are superior to 10% double attack and berserk, even with haste earring.

edit: noticed the wording was "on par" and not superior, though it's not really on par either.

MNK/DRG used to be an absolute terror in KRT, I couldn't tell you why. We had some of the best equipped monks back in the day, and when doing brd brd mnk mnk rdm whm in krt, 1 would go /DRG, and 1 /WAR for voke, and regardless of who did which, the drg came out on top more often than not, despite that fact that with voking you should have more opportunity to counter.

can someone tell me why then? and why mnks don't sub drg now? Is it something specific to /drg and KRT? did something change since then? srsly i'd like to know.

I'd wager that with the relatively low level of monsters in the tomb, as well as the whole blindness thing, ten accuracy for free doesn't hurt, especially for the purposes of Counter. And of course, 5% haste is just plain broken for an earring, moreso when you consider that pre-Aht Urhgan there was no turban for non-DRG-subbing monks to hit the gear haste cap with.

RandomLurker

KRT mobs have lower defence than your general ToAU merit mob, so berserk isn't as potent. 10acc, 5% haste and jumps has ability to produce similarly to /WAR in alot of instances, especially KRT. The reason you generally don't see it now, is because it also MP sponges like /WAR would.

"berserk isn't as potent"? unless you're hitting the attack cap, % boosts are the same across the entire range (example: 200/100 > 230/100 is a 15% boost. 200/200 > 230/200 is *still* a 15% boost.) in terms of sheer damage, you actually get a larger absolute boost from 200/100 > 230/100 (2 to 2.3 vs
1 to 1.15) but in terms of %dot over time, they're exactly the same.

/drg was better back in the day because hitting the haste cap was impossible without it; and 5% going from 56% haste (1 march) to 61% haste is fucking -huge-.
