Important Notice Regarding your PlayOnline ID(s) http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/imgs/spacer.gif http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/imgs/info/infhr.gif

Thank you for your continued support of PlayOnline and FINAL FANTASY XI.

As a result of an attack on our computer network, there is a possibility that information pertaining to some users has been compromised including the PlayOnline ID, PlayOnline password and certain other details obtained during registration. We have taken measures as soon as the attack was detected, and have limited the potential breach of information.

If you have linked your PlayOnline ID to a Square Enix Account, your account will be safe due to the nature of the information possibly breached. Please be assured that sensitive information such as your credit card number has not been compromised.

To prevent any misuse from accounts potentially compromised during this incident, we have changed the PlayOnline password for all those affected. We will be sending the new PlayOnline password to you by regular mail to the address registered in our records. We apologize for the inconvenience, but you will be able to login to PlayOnline using this new password. We have also sent out details on how to reset your password through our Information Center to those with a valid e-mail address, during the early hours of June 4th.

Those who can still login to PlayOnline using their current password are unaffected by the contents of this e-mail.

Please note: Square Enix employees will not ask you for your PlayOnline password regarding this incident. Please remain vigilant of any phishing attempts disguised as correspondence from Square Enix.

Thank you for your understanding, and we again apologize for any inconvenience caused.

I have suspected this has been happening for a few years now. Seeing as how people who have quit, get hacked then decide to come back several years later to find they have been compromised.

A friend of mine had his shit jacked, they went on his account and deleted his content IDs, he flipped shit burgers to me on Skype for like a half hour, about 5 minutes into it I just turned off my speakers and occasionally said yeah that sucks.

I'm sure this has something to do with the people who stole the 4.3 gigs of software data or whatever that is linked to multiple accounts over quiet a few of mmos, or something.. it was posted not to long ago maybe a week or two, so this news being posted is probably a week or two old and is just now getting placed on their website.

A ls mate told me about this after his PW was reset. Following that I logged into a friends account and could not. Seems his PW changed as well about a week back. So ya this is a ongoing event. not just now could be weeks months or years lol

This is why you change your passwords often.

Changing passwords often is a very good thing, like changing the lock on your house often, because a guy who steals your key will graciously wait a few weeks before trying to break in with it.

Imagine the kind of world we'd live in if people who hack your passwords tried them nearly instantly. There'd be madness.

What you say is correct, however the reason you got negative responses is that no matter how often you change your PW, when these servers are hacked it is still your most recent password... And unlike the robber you detail, these people are not waiting months they are logging in NOW.

Cooleko meant to reply to HKR. His post suddenly makes perfect sense once you read it that way.

Edit: NVM. The last part about "the robber you detail" seals the deal on an epic whoosh moment.
