Persona Q: Shadow Of The Labyrinth details

Atlus recently gave us a first look at their upcoming dungeon crawler spinoff title, called Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, featuring various characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4, who will be working together to find a way out of some sort of parallel world they’ve ended up inside. Gamer.ne.jp shares the latest on the game.

During the last day of the school festival at Yasogami High School, there was a sudden sound of a mysterious bell. After hearing the sound, the Persona-users are then sent to a parallel universe, where they find themselves in a school that looks exactly like Yasogami High; however, it also has an eerie clock tower they’ve never seen before.

At the alternate world’s Yasogami High, they meet a young boy and girl who seem to have lost their memories.

In Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, you’ll get to choose between the two protagonists of Persona 3 and Persona 4. Depending on who you choose, the story will be different.

If you go with Persona 3’s protagonist, the story starts in the middle of a stormy autumn night. Due to their school festival being canceled, the members of SEES (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad) gather at Tartarus, where they hear a strange sound of a bell. After entering the Velvet Room, a certain incident occurs.

Before they realize it, they find themselves in the midst of a school festival at Yasogami High School. It doesn’t take long until they encounter Shadows, similar to those they’ve previously fought in Tartarus. While fighting the Shadows and looking for a way out, they suddenly find themselves face to face with a group of high school students who call themselves the Investigation Team.

Next, is a look at the game’s story if you start the game with the Persona 4 protagonist.

It’s the last day of the Yasogami High School festival, and the protagonist, along with the rest of the Investigation Team, is enjoying the festivities. However, there’s a distinct sound of an unfamiliar bell they all seem to hear. Upon looking outside the window, they see a clock tower that was never there before.

Due to the unforeseen event, the group searches its way around the school to spot any traces of Shadow activity. While fighting the Shadows, the Investigation Team encounter another group of Persona-users, who seem to be from a different school. The group calls themselves the “Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad,” and they decide to team up to find the exit of what appears to be a labyrinth.

Not much is known about the two new characters, apart from the fact that they’ve lost their memories. Here’s a little more info on the mystery duo:

Rei

Rei is a first-year student at Yasogami High School, who seems to have had her memories stolen by a certain someone. She’s often seen eating things like corndogs and donuts, which she apparently pulls out of nowhere. She is known for being quite the strange girl.

Zen

Zen is also a first-year student at Yasogami High School, and similar to Rei, he has had his memories stolen by a certain someone. He is always around Rei, and seems to be a little overprotective of her, and will do absolutely anything to protect her. Whenever something happens to Rei, he loses his cool and is prone to recklessness.

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will be available June 4th, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

I know people joke and compare P4 to scooby doo, but that font and graphic style almost makes it seem like they really are going for that lol. This game looks like garbage, but if it's actually fun I might rent it.

Atlus’ upcoming dungeon crawler Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth features characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4 in chibi-like fashion. This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine reveals two of the new characters who’ll be joining the game in Ken Amada and Koromaru from Persona 3.

Ken Amada, the youngest member of S.E.E.S. along with the white Shiba Inu Koromaru, will both be in Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth as playable characters.

The cast of both Persona 3 and Persona 4 have pretty interesting characters, so it’ll be interesting to see how they interact with each other. We all know that the Persona 4 tough-guy, Kanji Tatsumi, is a softie deep down, and it looks like he’ll be showing a little more of it when he sets eyes on Koromaru.

New Details

Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will feature several characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4 along with their Personas. This week’s Famitsu magazine says the game’s characters will be able to use additional Personas for the first time.

In Persona Q, you’ll be making your party of 5 out of 20 different characters from Persona 3 and Persona 4. While it is recommended to have a balanced party that can hit different weaknesses, there will be special dialogue depending on your party mix, so in the end, its up to you to decide who you want to include.

The characters will be set in front and back rows. You’ll be putting your melee characters in the front, and ranged attackers, healers, and other support role characters in the back.

Now, onto the Persona selection bit. In Persona 3 and 4, only the protagonists where allowed to use different Personas, while your other party members were restricted to just one. However, Persona Q will allow you to set sub-Personas to the other characters. That way, they’ll be able to use other skills that aren’t available through their main Personas, giving you a large number of strategic options.

Additionally, there’s a new “Boost” feature in the game, which is similar to the “All-Out Attacks” from past Persona games, but with a couple of twists. By using skills to hit enemy weaknesses, your character will enter a Boost mode. While in Boost mode, your skill costs will be at 0 SP.

Having a character in Boost mode can also lead to a “Follow-Up Attack,” where one character can attack, followed by another’s assistance. They will also do the familiar All-Out Attacks, but it won’t be done in the same way, as having more characters in Boost mode is said to increase the odds of Follow-up attacks and All-Out Attacks.

Atlus and Nintendo will make a Nintendo 3DS XL system for Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. The system will have a unique design and include the 3DS game, but details about what the limited edition handheld will look like have not been released. Pricing for the bundle has not been announced either.

A stand alone copy of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth will cost 6,980 yen and first print copies include a Persona Q: Sound of the Labyrinth soundtrack CD.

Famitsu DX Special edition

Is it a surprise that there’s a special edition of Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth ready for pre-order already? Probably not. Ebten have a special Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth Famitsu DX Pack up for pre-order at their store. The asking price? A cool 10,590 yen (US$106).

It looks like this will be more than worth the money to pick up, though, if you’re heavily interested in the game. Not only does it come with the Nintendo 3DS title, it’ll also have a special B5(!) size tapestry drawn by the Persona Q anime staff, an A3 size clear poster so secret no one will know what it is until the sale date, five visual clear files, a Persona Q mug that they’re teasing is in the “motif style of the Velvet Room,” and a graphig version of Rei.

Graphigs, if you’re just wondering, are those foldable papercrafts that turn into a boxy 3D model. And if you’re wondering where the staring is, keep looking, as not a lick of imagery is out yet. Really.
