So I found this game a bit ago and have been enjoying it. It has your really early FF system: Choose 4 characters (of 8 jobs) and go save the world. But it has some new-age mechanics to go with it, like:
-7 Difficulty settings
-Set your encounter rate
-New Game+
-Crafting
-Fishing (fuck yeah)
-Multiple progression paths
-Free choice in stat progression for each character
-Extra utility from "support" jobs
The thing I like most is the stat progression. Essentially when you level up you get points to use to increase your stats. You then choose what stats to spend them on, with their weight depending on your job. So Monks will get more HP per allocation, Knights get cheaper defense, White mage gets cheaper MP, black mage gets cheaper INT, etc.
Your 8 jobs are:
Knight / Dark Knight (offensive tank)
Monk / Black belt (offensive DD)
Thief / Ninja (support melee)
Hunter / Beast tamer (support ranged - Allows you to use mounts)
Gray Mage / Sage ( Paladin / Red Mage - Depending on spec is either a tank or effective caster)
White Mage / Priestess
Black Mage / Warlock
Engineer / Physicist - (support - Think chemist + bombs, also allows tunneling)
As well, there's effectively no level cap, you can grind almost forever, if that's what you'd like to do. They're also coming out with an expansion and sequel in due time. Here's a link:
