    Confused about bazaar "Tax"

I was reading the manual posted on kotaku, and under the player bazaar section it details how each transaction will be applicable to a 5% tax. Why does it seem like the "seller" is paying the tax instead of the "buyer"? If I put something in my bazaar for 100 gil, well I expect 100 gil if someone buys it. But under this new tax structure, I'd only get 95.

This problem is more confusing if we use a greater amount. Say I need exactly 1000 gil to purchase something, so I decide to sell an item. I'd have to sell that item at exactly 1053 gil (1052.6, rounded) to get the 1000 gil I need. Why so complicated?

It sounds like they want the seller to pay the tax rather than the buyer, seems odd to me as well, since normally a buyer pays Sales Tax.

On a serious note, it makes perfect sense. If XIV will not have AH system and only utilize bazaars as means of goods distribution, it only makes sense that seller will pay the tax of "putting up" an item for sale ala Auction House.

Besides, if the money doesn't return into the system, than the prices will keep climbing as a result of excess gil, no?

Yeah, its not that big a deal. At worst, it'll just be the hassle of taking the amount you wish to recieve and dividing by .95. Or, maybe the game will clearly tell you how much you will recieve from a sale while you're putting the item up.

I liked how the tax on AH worked in Cabal, even if you were broke you could put items up because the tax would only be collected after the item sold.

Just increase the price by 5% and pass it on to the buyer like all your favorite corporations do. Capitalism is a bitch.

x = how much you want for the item

    (x)(100)
-------- = what you sell it for
    95

I hope they have an AH system, I don't want to go around clicking hundreds of bazaars to find what I'm looking for.

Edit: Embrace american capitalism and pass the 5% tax onto the buyer

Pretty sure they will, relying on a "bazaar" only system is very ancient. Even F2P mmo's mostly have AH systems now. Its overall much more efficient and boosts the in-games economy easily by having items in circulation/ready to go without having the user online to sell.

As for AH limitations, do you think they are going to limit how many auctions we can have going at once if so? I hope to god not ._.

Unfortunately, they have spoken up and said that they wish to have no AH. Now that could just be what they are going to do for alpha/beta, but that is what they have said. I agree they do need some kind of an AH system and a bazaar only system simply does not work without the "storefront" system that other older MMOs have implemented.

As for the tax, I really do hope the alpha testers complain about how it is handled. The system that was employed over the years in XI was a good and decent system and should be replicated.
