Server Merge Delayed/New Name Confict Details (Epic Fail Inside)

Greetings Daevas,



We want to update you about some changes relating to the upcoming server merge. We are setting in place processes to resolve same-name conflicts once the upcoming server merge takes place. In order to provide a fair and just resolution, we are changing the server merge date to July 14, 2010.





So how does this affect my character?



Once the merge occurs, a character with a name that is up to 14 letters long will have a two-letter server abbreviation added to the end of the name. For example, “Fergreedy” on Azphel would become “FergreedyAZ” after the merge.



A character name that is 15 letters long will have a one-letter server abbreviation added to the end of the name. For example, “Misterhappyface” on Azphel would become “MisterhappyfaceA”.



In the rare instance that two characters transferring to a merged server share the same name and it is 16 letters long, one of the characters will be renamed. We understand that this is an inconvenience, and regret the need to change anyone’s character name. We will keep a close eye on the few characters that this name conflict will affect, and can confidently say the percentage of this occurrence will be very low.



Lastly, we’ll be providing all Daevas with a free Character Name Change ticket so that they can later pick a new name.



Will I ever get my character’s name back?



Now that we’ve established what’s happening to names, you might be wondering what will happen to your old character’s name. When the merge maintenance is completed on July 14, 2010, you’ll be able to log in and use your free Character Name Change ticket change your name. All uses of that Character Name Change ticket will be on a “first come, first served” basis.



After reviewing all of the options available to us, we determined this to be the fairest way to handle name conflicts. We have modified our Server Merge FAQ to help address the questions you may have regarding this process. Additionally, due to the delay in creating a better process for name changes, we are also extending the free character transfers to August 25, 2010.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's wrong with it? I mean, they could have just made it so anyone whose name was not duplicated doesn't have to deal with the name change, but it seems fair doing it this way.

If you want your name, log in first and get it back. *shrug*

its a namechange ticket, any one can take it, not just all the people with that name. its not the first of the 3 to login, its the first person to login who wants that name period

theres so many better criteria to do instead:
first character created with name
character level
etc

I'd say this type of system is preferrable to a system where somebody who quit 3 years ago (not that aion has been around that long) still getting priority over your name simply because it was on the source server and not the server being deleted.

Sure it gives people the opportunity to be a dick and steal a name just to be an asshole, but everyone at least has a valid chance to keep their old name.

so basically they instituted a race.. who can get to name changing npc faster and claim the name? thats so much fail i dont even know how to describe it. I like how the pre-order head start thing was partially to reserve that name u want. Now you get to do the race all over again

I'd say this type of system is preferrable to a system where somebody who quit 3 years ago (not that aion has been around that long) still getting priority over your name simply because it was on the source server and not the server being deleted.

Sure it gives people the opportunity to be a dick and steal a name just to be an asshole, but everyone at least has a valid chance to keep their old name.

based on what the memo says: all names are being changed with the former server initials tacked on, and everyone is getting a name ticket: no name is safe, even formerly uncontested names could be taken.

What they did was put it the most damaging possible solution to the issue people were concerned about after previously implying they would try to find a system that would keep the amount of names lost to a minimum. This system presented above gives the HIGHEST chances of previous name loss to everyone.

now with that in mind: I personally ain't too attached to my name and with this "method" they choose I personally will see to it to jack as many names as possible (call it "name PVP" if you will~)

This. There's so many awesome names in WoW that will never be used again because they belong to people who quit years ago.

Let's be honest - there's probably far fewer people who are going to take names just to be assholes versus those who just want their old name back.

I've checked other servers w/ my name and they're all lowbie fags who stayed level 13 or below. I'm the only lv50 by 32 levels. So if I lose my name, a kitten will get shot. NCSoon has screwed this game up enough anyways.

Guaranteed if this isnt corrected people will ragequit in droves either goin to other games or playing on private servers. They BETTER change this policy because after all the amount of work ive done to save these names if i lose the 2 preorder names i reserved at prelaunch i WILL quit.

Left ones the ellie right ones the asmo version Might sound silly but lets face it since launch its been one screwup after another even with version updates etc you cant get a strait answer and now with names its prolly the most important issue to players and it feels like the decision to do so was just a halfarsed last minute decision. This could turn into the straw that broke the camels back. Theres others there feeling the same way and these merges were meant to help solve population issues but this decision regarding name changes could easily accellerate the decline. A drop from 32 to 13 servers after 10 months is NOT a good sign for a game it took FFXI more than 8 years to do a server merge and it was nowhere as near as big as WoW.

Remember that they added more servers than needed at start, and forced people to roll on "smaller" servers as a stop gap while they fixed the queue issues.
