There are external enclosures you can get to house your laptop hdd, for sata: http://www.amazon.com/SATA-Hard-Driv...gy_misc_text_b, for laptop IDE: http://www.amazon.com/2-5-Hard-Drive...3699082&sr=8-2 There's also 3.5" and 5.25" enclosures if you look.
If you want a more temporary and general purpose usb pluggable, look at this one: http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-SATA-C.../ref=pd_cp_e_1 This will let you connect sata, desktop ide, and laptop ide to usb, but does not house the drive and you'll need to use its power brick. There's also base stations where you can plug in hdds like bread in a toaster if you want that look lol.
