    ROH! ROH! Fight the powah!

Ok , so I noticed I am running a Radeon HD 5770 in my system but only powering it with a 400W PSU. This is unacceptable, and I am still investigating as to why I went 6 months w/o realizing this.

This is the PSU I am looking to get. I want to go big so I figure 1000W should be sufficient power for my PC in the near and foreseeable future.

What I want to ask is, what do you all think is a good brand? I hear Corsair has not done anyone wrong, but I only know them a far as memory goes. Does anyone have any recommended brands I should take a look at? If the price is right, I may even go even bigger for 1500W.

Yes I know it's probably unnecessary to have such big PSU but it's for a good cause!

I'm just trying to wrap my head around a 5770, and wanting to get a 1500W PSU...

Corsair is an excellent brand, just got a 650 to power a Phenom II and 5770. 1.5k watts is overkill even if you plan to xfire/sli.

Maybe.... MAYBE... you can go for the 850watt modular psu from corsair. It's one hell of a popular model, 5eggs, but even that is overkill for you. Plus... it's modular.

Doing it one part at a time, plus this is actually so I can overclock the GPU and not have the system crash on me :/

    You wouldn't need a 1500W psu even with 4 5770's in XF.

Well, the idea here is I am upgrading the PC one piece at a time. 1st PSU 2nd CPU, then 3rd GPU. If the motherboard needs to be upgraded, by the time I reach a budget for a CPU then it would be upgraded along with the CPU. Of course, the more powerful the component the more power it consumes, so I considered getting a large PSU to accommodate the other components being upgraded.

Will a 850W suffice for the machine for say the next year or two?

I overclocked my i5 and 5770 and I'm using a 720w PSU made by Enermax? Never heard of them, but it was a gift, and works fine for now and I'm toying with the idea of adding another 5770 just to do it.

I would say 850 is plenty.
