    Stats and how they work.

This thread is a collection of tests and observations about stats and how they work in FFXIV. You can find all the links to the individual stat tests below. Some of the really old tests can be found in this thread but are not linked, as they are no longer relevant. If I missed something, let me know and I will link it. All new results will be linked in this OP. ^_^/

Special thanks to Kaeko, Seiken, Stanislaw and various others for all the brilliant contributions.

Magic Accuracy used to be PIE, but I hear people say it might be MND now?

Yeah Ulmy it is not PIE anymore I think. If it is MND it takes quite a lot to bump it up one point, none of my gear was able to budge it with raw stats.

Enhancement Magic is definitely VIT. It seems Astaroth Cane is still a good nuking weapon but the VIT-3 seems to lower my enhancement magic, which in turn means weaker Shell and Stoneskin. The 4 VIT on my Felt Gaskins Brown bumps up Enhancing Magic by one point, so going by my total stats I think its 5 VIT= 1 Magic Enhancement.

If Stat+7 rings werent so expensive atm I'd buy a few of all and test it. Will post more results once I attach some materia.

The only materia slot that comes to mind where STR and ATK are competing is hands (maybe certain weapons, I guess).

I plan to take ATK unless I see some data indicating otherwise.

I actually posted the info a few days ago, here is the link for it. I still have to test DoT damage based on INT, PTY, Attack Magic Potency, but have not had time since we are doing to many things in game.

    http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/107...tat-s-Number-s

The quick basics are, for stats like STR, DEX, INT and such, on every mutiple of 5 (210, 215, 220, 225, ext), a stat will go up, like magic attack, elemental resists, magic acc, magic enhancing and such.
The same goes for attacks stats and such, every mutiple of 5, you get to next tier.

As I get more "free" time in game, I will update the post that was done. If anyone has any question or requests for any of the jobs, ask away.

I'd also love to know how much STR actually affects your damage but those +7 rings are expensive. Have there really been no tests for things like this since 1.19?

There were, but how stats affect your character changed after 1.19.

Which is why I'm asking if there were tests done after 1.19.

It says nothing about what STR does. His tests indicate that STR does not add to AP at all, and even if it did with the 5 STR = 1 AP ratio, it'd be terrible. I'd be extremely surprised if 1 AP made your damage go up by as much as 5 STR does.

Even if it's not completely correct/thoroughly tested, I figured that someone would have the common sense to know that Attack Power has a singular use and STR has more than one use besides for attacking. Therefore, Attack Power when trying to do damage (i.e. - Main weapon), STR for when you want Attack Power, decreased damage when attack blocked with shield, and Botanist/Blacksmith main hand.

Direct correlations as Attack Power/Magic ACC/ACC/etc are always going to be more powerful for what you need particularly than overall character main stats. Just think about what you're trying to accomplish and go for that particular thing. Knowing how much stats increase it won't make the stat greater than the direct one.

I think we shouldn't have to worry about stat caps, until they give us back the ability to set attributes for each class (if they're still going to do that).

This wasn't true in FFXI, you know. +10 ATK or +10 STR was not a tough decision as the STR was better by a long shot despite it providing less than 10 extra ATK. You're basing your assumption on nothing but wild speculation.

I'm basing it off the fact that my Bliaud has Magic ACC +5 and MND +5. When I unequip it, I have Magic ACC @ 434. When I requip it, I have Magic ACC @ 440. This tells me that MND +5 = 1 Magic Acc. I would assume it's the same for other stats, as well, which coincides with the Stat +5 = 1 direct increase.

The question is, how much is too much? Or too little? In FFXI, you could have too much ACC. You have have too little ATK, even if you have a lot of STR.

And we don't know for sure how much "more powerful" the derived stats are over primary stats, because nobody has tested them (post-1.19) in relation to each other.

STR never added attack. It just pushes your DMG threshold further based on your Attack when pushed against mob's VIT. Once you have enough STR, I believe, it starts to become more about attack at that point.

I always thought it would be simplest if STR raised your maximum damage while attack raised your minimum damage (assuming the same mob with the same stats). Thus, pushing all STR would make you capable of dealing more damage at the cost of being less consistent, creating a natural need for a balance between the two outside of multipliers for other abilities.

Similarly, VIT should reduce your minimum physical damage taken and defense should reduce your maximum damage taken (assuming the same attack by the same mob).

Does this in any way resemble the actual algorithms? I've never quite known jack shit about these types of maths.

The example description you gave is essentially how it worked in XI really, not entirely unlikely they grandfathered the concept over.

Where's Kaeko to do all the work answering these questions because we're lazy? Idk what we pay him for.

Figuring out how heals work is a bit of a pain. I have two hats now, one with MND+16 another with Healing Potency+11.

Due to the fluctuation of heals as well as crits, it's really hard to get proper evidence. One thing I did notice or could at least speculate on is that similar to attack and str, Healing Potency pushes up the minimal threshold while MND affects the maximum heal amount.

Think for now I am keeping the Healing Potency+11 hat since I already have MND on my Jade crook and my gaskins.
