Hello! Let’s all tread together the treacherous path of the final day of the work week joined by some great music!

Remember when I said last week that the sequel to Chrono Trigger - Chrono Cross - would be a good topic for this week? Well, it's time (kek) to feature it!

Trigger is legendary and a sequel had big shoes to fill (big shoes to fill... big shoes to...), and perhaps it was this ridiculously high expectations that made some people not treat Cross with the respect it deserves; at the end of the day it's an incredible RPG game with a killer OST! Definitely one of the jewels of the RPG crown the PS1 wore with so much gusto.

Cross is filled with top songs, and I had a tough time having to choose just one. Guldove, one of the game's towns, has a theme that even back in the day was fantastic for me. I loved it and I always took longer than usual to leave town just to enjoy a bit more of it.

What? You thought I would go with Time's Scar - the game's intro cg theme song? Well, no... but it is an amazing theme, isn't it?

Game on!

This and Legend of Mana are the only two game soundtracks I own physical copies of.
One of my key tracks is "The Dream that Time Dreams"

@Cantih Though not the same game, the OST for Secret of Mana (SNES) was, together with "Kefka's Domain" (FFVI's NA OST), my first physical soundtrack

@Charismatic There's just so many good tracks in Cross! It was quite hard to pick one!

Agreed. You'd be hard-pressed to find too many other soundtracks that have the overall quality of the Chrono Cross soundtrack. Plenty of games may have a great track or a few here or there but this level of quality throughout? Sadly uncommon!

Pretty much everything Shimomura touches is great so Legend of Mana is, of course, great. I've probably mentioned it before but my favorite game soundtrack is that of Atelier Ayesha. Nearly every track is just wonderful. Almost sad to say that as one of the world's biggest Shimomura fanboys, you'd think something of hers would have snagged that top spot, but nope.
