    Motorola Shadow (Droid 2)

    did this really get missed?

    http://www.androidguys.com/wp-conten...ola-Shadow.jpg

    First Gizmodo acquired an iPhone that was "left" in a bar. Now, Gizmodo decides to post a picture of the Verizon branded Motorola Shadow, or whatever they're gonna end up calling it, which was apparently, "left" in a gym. Since when do prototypes get lost and found so frequenty? And more importantly, when did smartphones start going to bars and working out? Maybe these phones are so "super" that they've learned to sprout legs and flee their masters. Or, perhaps lost phones are just becoming the new blurry-cam leak.

    Either way, this phone is a beast. I was surprised that there doesn't seem to be a hardware keyboard. Motorola really seems to be pushing into HTC territory with this bad boy. Here's what we've now confirmed about it:

    * 4.3" screen
    * 8MP camera capable of 720p video
    * Probably running Froyo 2.2 at release with new MotoBlur (much sleeker than old UI)
    * 16GB internal storage
    * 1GHz Snapdragon processor
    * HDMI out port

    I 'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that the screen will not be of AMOLED origin. The picture seen above makes it seem a bit washed out and back-lit (but this could just be due to the lighting or camera). We've also yet to see a 4.3" AMOLED screen put on a phone, leading me to assume there's a technical reason behind it that we're just not aware of. For now, everyone seems to be sticking with LCDs for these super-sized phones (aside from the 4" Super AMOLED found on the Samsung Galaxy S). However, in this case, I'd love to be wrong.

    Verizon customers can expect this device to launch around June or July time.

    Looks like aside from the 4G support and internal storage vs. external memory card they have the same basic specs. I don't see a front mounted camera on this one though.

    The CPU on the phone is wrong. Its not a 1GHz Snapdragon. Its a TI OMAP 3630 processor (a 720MHz ARM Cortex A8).

    Motorola Shadow glimpsed in the wild: 4.1-inch screen, 8MP camera, OMAP3630 processor?
    http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....hot-rm-eng.jpg

    Leave it to the very same poster who teased the Motorola Shadow's Getting Started manual, wnrussell of Howard Forums, to provide a pretty clear shot of the device itself -- yep, that's a HDMI out port -- and reveal some purported specs. Here's the claimed technical details: 4.1-inch screen, TI OMAP 3630 processor (a 720MHz ARM Cortex A8), 8GB internal storage, 8 megapixel camera. Yeah, we can buy all that, especially since he's clearly got the device in hand -- so now it's up to Verizon to let us know when we can do the same.
    Its still a nice upgrade for Motorala Droid users.

    280MHz difference but more overall features including a bigger screen... Its a tough call. Depends on how fast this gets Froyo to give it that insane performance boost.

    Meh.. Who am I kidding? I'd still get the Incredible. You gotta blow me away with some slick shit for me to use a non-HTC Android phone.

    the only thing Motorola got for them is faster ports... they will be probably the first ones to have Android 2.2 out but that aside, this phone has a bigger screen for a shittier CPU. donotwant

    Galaxy S is the real competitor for HTC's current gen.

    Agree completely. They have that Super AMOLED screen going for them along with similar specs and that iPhone OS like UI going for them. This summer is going to be interesting.

    Not only that but they also have a GPU 3 to 4 times faster than HTC's current gen. (90 millions triangles vs 23 millions for a Snapdragon)

    HTC 'Aria' tapped for June announce on AT&T?

    By Chris Ziegler posted May 26th 2010 at 1:34PM
    http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....0-question.jpg

    Here's what we know: there are at least two Android products from HTC that have recently secured FCC approval with support for AT&T's 3G bands. Of course, that alone doesn't mean that they're coming to AT&T -- far from it -- but PhoneDog has it on authority from a "connect that works for AT&T" that there'll be a phone known as the HTC "Aria" launching on June 7 with Android 2.1 and Sense. Whether this will be an AT&T-tweaked Legend, the PC70110 (pictured), or something else entirely is an open question, but one thing's for sure: AT&T seriously can't get enough Android hardware right now.
    Who wanted the physical keyboard? Ask and ye shall receive.

    I like touch screens and all, but from tiem to time I use a real keyboard, its why I like my droid so much; ok maybe its not the best KB but it still is one.

    I use the touch keypad more than the physical keyboard. It is nice to have the option though.

    I had a Dare before getting a Droid and using the touch screen keyboard was terrible. I don't really have "small, girlish fingers" like what seems to be needed these day, so I love knowing what I pressed is actually what is being typed.

    Exact same situation.

    I was excited for the Shadow but fuck no QWERTY keyboard.
