Thread: Anyone want some free, bandwidth aplenty hosting?    

I'm feeling generous today, so here's the deal.

Photobucket and imageshack limit you to pictures, and megaupload and rapidshare have shitty upload/download restrictions unless you pay them money, so perhaps I could offer something that doesn't suck.

My CoP/ToAU LS's website, 2 phpBB forums, a friend's music for his xanga, and whatever i want to upload obviously isn't using my account to it's potential. I can't let all this goto waste. Note bandwidth is reset every month.

I have 4/5 FTP user slots available, so 4 people I guess.

Rules are common sense:

• whatever you want(within reason)[/*:m:d12cb]
• nothing illegal[/*:m:d12cb]
• I reserve the right to delete content I find to be a legal liability.[/*:m:d12cb]

The directory will be http://prishels.net/ - you choose the subdirectory (e.g. prishels.net/Yin)

Obviously I can't choose everyone, so I guess I'll pick and choose from 4 people who I or the community don't find to be a waste of space here. Yinnites will most likely have priority over heathens.

My host manages usernames universally throughout their system, so note that your choice of username may be taken already. So in your PM to me with your desired FTP Username and password, list a few additional choices for a username and what one you would prefer over others, and why I should choose you. I really don't expect anything in return, just use it responsibly, but I'm not going to turn down anyone who may or may not try to compensate over others.

btw, when I say legal liability, i mean obvious things like underage nudity and warez(with the exception of mp3s) I don't give a crap about music

iirc, it's footage from a documentary where LSD was tested on cats. I might be thinking of something else though, but it sure looks like it.

Basically I'd be giving you rights to upload whaever at say prishels.net/Dezzimal or something via FTP

My LS is looking to make a new website, and this would help with that, though if someone else could make better use out of it I'd hate to take it away from them. I'm interested if you've got space, otherwise it's cool.

I'll leave this open for a week or so, see who's all interested, this already got moved to General, maybe I can push my luck and request a sticky

I can also setup phpBB2 or phpBB3 forums as well, but that takes more time. I don't do Invisionfree or WBB.

If you have a specific question about what can be on there or not (websites/forums/etc) don't hesitate to as.

Yea, forums are an option, I'll just upload the software, make a new DB, and hand you the info so you can complete the installation yourself. After that it's up to you to maintain it.

i certainly didn't intend for it to be like that, i didn't mean to interrupt your generous offer, you yourself said you could only give out a few ftp accounts. Thought it would be helpful for the rest of the 'heathens'.

Plus the 'free hosting' you suggested is a less than stellar choice. You have to give them credit card details because only the first year is free and one of their two user testimonies says they don't work properly.

It's well worth it, if Charitwo runs out of resources, or somebody needs a more robust package than he can offer, check somewhere like http://www.site5.com, they're offering a fairly epic deal for $5/month atm. 110GB of storage, 5TB/month of bandwidth, yada yada. It won't run a site like ffxiclopedia or a forum like BG during extreme times such as an update day, but it'll happily handle solid use.
