I almost agree with this...

1-3 were awesome in a can for me... then till after 'king GAR' dies it's pretty boring.

Episode 15 was fucking epic... and this current arc is pretty badass too.

I got to ep 7 and stopped watching...lacking motivation to continue. I know I will someday since everyone say the beginning sucks, but I will finish those other series I started first.

One of the things people have pointed out about Gurren-Laggan is that it moves, in stages, through anime themes of the time. From 70's-80's robot shows about a small group to 90's ensamble robot shows to modern anime's tendancy for robot shows to be anti-goverment. (ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWA!)

I agree that if there is 'something' you like about the series, you will know much better after episode 8 if it's going to be for you in the long haul or not.

Personally? It's reminded me why I watch anime in the first place.

Taj is the only one in this thread, but he wasn't the first person who said that. Pretty sure it was said 2-3 more times in another anime thread, and both friends who recommanded the series also said that. Obviously, it's subjectivity, but it can't be ignored when many peoples share the same opinion. Would I end up liking the rest of the series? Probably. There really isn't many anime out there I can't stand, and it was recommanded by many people I generally agree with.

Why I stopped watching after 7 episode? It's hard to say exactly. I was expecting a comedy with giant robot, and it's not quite what I got. It's not funny enough to make me laugh, but it's not serious enough to keep me interested or make me cares about the story. I need a sad scene, a love story, a weird backstory or something like that to keep my attention, but there was nothing of the sort in the 7 episodes I watched (except for the 2min he spent with his "father"). Ep4-5-6 episodic content killed the mood badly for me, because they prevent any sort of progress.

Problem isn't that I hated the show or anything, I just I didn't care enough about the story/character to watch next episodes. I ended up trying those other series that were on my hardrive and watched them (nodame, ichigo mashimaro, inukami, denou coil and Nanoha atm). I will finish it eventually, probably in less than 2 weeks...just need to find the motivation to get back to it.
