    List of annoying crap in FFXI (Wall of text warning)

    The purpose of this thread :
    A list of things in and related to FFXI which, in general, piss you off after you've experience them. Probably over and over and over again, usually not for the last time.

    I've gone through and revamped sections. Now with added AV!
    Lots of major gripes addressed; minor section still without love.
    12/16/08:
    Minor section got love.

    SE to players: Suck it!
    Players to SE: Yeah, about that. No.
    4/22/09:
    Fixed anything thats been taken care of recently
    Added 'horrible beta testing process'
    Added a Dynamis section. Woo!
    Reworded a couple things here/there.

    The sections:
    Minor: 'X' is kind of lame in my opinion. Fixing this does nothing outside of making the game less of a chore to play.
    Ex: Turning off homepoint message when changing main jobs.

    Major: 'X' is lame and makes the game not fun on a frequent basis.
    Ex: Khroma Ore availability, Camping Kings.

    Things that made us happy:
    Things that got fixed / where implemented that where satisfying. There to balance out the negativity, and to update with stuff that was fixed.

    lolPlayer section: Annoying player trends. Not really fixable, more there to note that something is fairly common or at least a concern among the population. ..special people in FFXI need special help, after all.

    Anything in italics /underlined has been addressed.

    Job Specific crap:
    Stuff about jobs thats minor/major but only affects the people who play those jobs. IE: Devotion being stupid log recast, Useless merits[SMN grade 2], stuff thats a pain in the ass on one job which doesn't affect others.

    - Dynamis - Deserves an entire section on how to make it suck less, but the old "Hey SE" thread bitched about it more and better. Dynamis sucks, has sucked, and will continue to suck. But people will continue to go because they want stuff, and this continued "popularity" will ensure it never gets fixed. The end. Thanks for upping the drop rates. Really!

    Minor crap:
    1: Turning off homepoint message when changing main jobs in your mog house.
    -- Why can you not turn this off?
    -- Changing mog house when going to new nations

    2: Useless items. Old example was Movalpolos water.
    New example: Cactuar needle and every useless HQ when your trying to synth a NQ item. Edit: Useless HQ's where 'fixed', kinda. -- Please make them available or stop adding/add recipes that use them. For Movopolis, the stance that players aren't doing enough to bring the zone under conquest control can be addressed under major #1. (You can make mov. Water now!) Most 'wtf' items got craftables, and anything that doesn't have one is just that. Will add a new #2:

    #2: Stop adding recipes that require ludicrous ingredients / skill combination's (Humpty dumpty effigy)

    3: Elshimo Outpost warps are slightly broken.
    --Why yes, I did want to aggro that marlboro.

    4: New job relic/AF+1(8/08 )
    --Where is it? (No, you DNC/SCH's still don't get to complain yet)


    5: BC's / ENM's being a ridiculous hassle to get to.
    -- Balgas Dias, Fei'Yin, Giddeus, Bearclaw Pinnacle, Spires....to name a few. There are ENM PC's in every major city, these could be used to transport players to these instances with a similar 'lure of the wildcat' quest.

    6: Doors in high traffic area's.
    -- It would be nice if they stayed open longer, or weren’t there at all.

    7: The Mog house exit in certain areas puts you right on the zone line, and then makes the camera face the zone.
    -- Many area's do this and it is a giant pain in the ass. I run back into the Mog house on accident in North Sandy all the time because its damn near impossible to tell what direction the character is facing.

    8: Lamia (No.2) in besieged.
    -- Shouldn't have access to charm / sleep / ranged / strip attack as many people as they can.

    9: Besieged taking forever to start
    -- Implementing a timer to show an estimate as to how long until an attack begins would be very awesome.

    10: Not XP when dead at the end of Besieged
    -- This is annoying, and you fixed it in Campaign. Why not Besieged?

    11:The cut scenes when boarding the airship/boat/Al'Tiaeu/going to sky[sic]
    -- Please, please get rid of these after the first time we've seen them.

    12: The FFXI shortcut opens PlayOnline
    -- This saves exactly one button press versus opening Playonline straight up. A more direct route into the game would be appreciated.

    (Editors note: I don't care about this anymore, there's better things to gripe about)

    13: Default option NO for a sub-sub menu (Runic portal tickets)
    -- Please make the default option 'yes' for these, or put in a solution ala the Barge ticket. *hugs* Or, make the Runic Portal just operate without needing to get a pass and have it drain the 200 imperial standing (or free, for Captains) directly.

    14: Nyzul Isle not giving AP that can be used in salvage.
    -- Salvage is fun, and nyzul has shinies I want for my WHM. Being forced to choose between the two makes me a sad panda. No, mytic weapons don't suddenly cause this to make sense. in fact, now its a bigger pain in the ass because of the added salvage requirements.
    Note: SE's said this would be 'very hard to do'. Which is developer speak for 'we're lazy, suck it up'.

    15: - Not being able to trade Gil when inventory is full.
    -- PS2Limitations

    16:Not being able to craft when 70/70 and your using 7 ingredients to craft -- PS2Limitations
    Suck it up, get a security token. If 140/160 slots isn't enough for you, then god damn I'd hate how you functioned before.

    17: - I want R.ATK, R.ACC, M.ACC, MAB, MDB, and ACC on my Equip screen next to ATK and DEF.
    -- PS2Limitations
    -- At the least you could explain how they're calculated, since the damage formulas have been bent over recently.

    18: Having to engage to use WS's.
    -- This affects rangers and anyone using SATA.

    19: Skilling up sucks balls
    -- No really, it does.

    20: - FFXI's Main Menu needs to incorporate the game settings of the last logged in user (sound volumes & aspect ratio primarily)
    Aspect ratios are saved to server with your macro's. Back up often!

    21: Unable to view Merits on non-75 job with 'Limit Breaker' key item
    --Why not?

    22: Windowed mode doesn't remember maximized state upon initialization
    -- And windower still makes it its bitch.

    23: Elemental potency
    -- Elemental status currently has no effect on potency. e.g. Aero IV hits a fire elemental harder than Water IV. Its only used in resist builds, and only ridiculous numbers which not all jobs can access.

    24: No easy way to influence control of a region
    -- It would be nice to get my bastok mules the Ronfaure and Sara[tab] outpost warps.


    Major Crap:
    -1:AV/PW
    -- Shitty help video is shitty, no one wants to waste potential days of their time (hours @ event, +XP) testing out theories that they might not even get to try. Telling us we can't ask questions is not an answer.

    0: Call for help on any Notorious monster
    -- Do I really have to say anything? Really?REALLY?
    There's one fight this would make harder, Kirin. If you die because you can't CFH the add's on Kirin then you either shouldn't have been fighting him or should have made sure that everyone wasn't AFK.

    1: We the three kings are hated by far
    -- These cause the main bottle neck AND most bullshit in FFXI. Worse than Dynamis, worse than Sky. Worse than Salvage, because you don't have to compete to get into salvage. Just changing the way in which they pop would do much to alleviate frustrations among players, or giving an alternative to equipment.

    1b: The random kirin porter
    -- Wastes hours weekly for people and serves no purpose other than to infurate players.

    2:Elemental potency(Moved to minor, on reflection this isn't major. >.>)

    (4/22/09: Current known issue, yadda yadda yadda)

    2: Drop rates are horrible on useful R/E items.
    -- I did enjoy the 1m over the course of going 1/17 on my shaman's cloak. Going 1/10 on Mystic Maker was fun too, and I gave up on Cargo Crab collin and said fuck it i'll PL BLU and be done with it.

    3: Make something for beastmen/KS's to be exchanged for, or make Shami hold them like shageera holds ABC's. Instant 2-7+ item slots for all.

    3:How about an uncapped BC battle?
    -- Make BS/KS orbs ex. This is a solution to that ‘BC’s are hard to get to’

    4: Allow players to keep OP warps when changing nations
    -- I will never, ever ever do any other nations rank quests because I have ronfaure and sarat[tab]. Do I want to do them? Yes. Will I because of the 300 gil warp from bastok to windurst/san doria.? No.
    Added: (8/08 ): If you haven't done other nations quests I suggest doing them, they may be a pain in the ass but you get money and they tie nicely into the various stories.

    5: Moar storage sets
    -- Yigit/homam/pahlwan[sic] sets - i'm sure there are others, this is what comes to mind.


    6: Please make relic/AF +1 items sellable or EX, storable.
    --Nothing is more defeating than a limbus run full of Dragoon drops. At the very least it would be awesome if Sagheera would take AF+1 items like she takes coins.
    Marking this 'done' just because with the new storage options 3/4 bullshit items isn't such a pain anymore.
    7: Things dying unclaimed to DoT.
    -- Why do DoTed mobs even go yellow?

    8: Drop pools being lost at the end of Dynamis/everything

    -- Einjhar has this where you stay in the zone for 5 minutes after the fact. Burning circles kick you to a staging area. Why can’t this be implemented in other areas, or a 5 minute extension given at the end like Ein?

    9: [Space for Rent]

    10: Things in the game with no hints IN THE GAME on how to obtain/fight them.
    --/wave Goblin wolfman. Players shouldn’t have to .dat mine to play the game effectively. The Almighty Apkalu collective 'wut' at fanfest and the JP suppocalypse description kind of give away whats usually happening in these situations though. (Hint: Fail translators(Suppocalypse) / Devs(Av/wolfman/lots of stuff))

    11: [Space for rent]


    12: Spelllocking(8/08: You didn't fix this for the players you fuckers)

    -- Protectra shouldn't have added effect: Terrorize
    -- (8/08) Explination: Someone figured out you could cure lock mobs, so SE patched it so that you couldn't do this to monsters anymore. But you still sure as fuck can cure lock your PLD if he's not engaged.
    13: Multiple problems with synthesis
    -- If I'm 90 levels above the synthesis level, the synthesis shouldn't critical fail-- The skill up system is masochistic at best, and hopefully won't be copied in your next MMO. (This still applies)
    -- Certain elements are hard to get MH aura's for
    -- There are no uses for some HQ’s, and HQ’s on rings / ingredients cannot be used in a recipe, thus forcing players to level the same craft on another character just to insure that they are not wasting money.

    14: Monster movement and PC's being 'to far away' or not in relation to the monster
    -- Why can players not attack while running, but monsters can?

    15: People being able to break ally/party/quartermaster with items in the drop pool

    -- Party commands for the leader being disabled with items in the drop pool, other than the option to leave the party themselves, would save people a lot of pain and suffering.

    16: Teleport-Olduum
    -- Getting from point A to point B is a chore. Lowering the cost of choco whistles or making PC’s move faster in town would be a very nice gesture.
    -- Great, you've made the Chocobo whistles slightly less of a pain in the ass. Now how about making them attractive? (4/22/09, cost was 'lowere'd well before this note)

    17: Revamp signet.

    --The first baby steps where good, but it doesn’t come close to Sanction. Sigil is a nice thought, but having lvl 20 mobs mixed in with level 70 mobs kind of makes xping in some area's....dumb.

    Eh fuck it. Signet evasion / def bonus are nice enough without making it zomg lets level in bibiki bay and get 5k an hour.


    18: Huge empty zones that nobody ever touches(level sync might fix parts of this)(Level sync did not fix this)

    -- Would it be possible to have an update where nothing was done but moved mob spawn patterns around to create new exp camps? Or perhaps an XP bonus in level capped zones? I really wouldn't care if there wasn't any other content.

    19: NM's that Pop on Ferry's (See also: Allmighty apkallu)
    -- Are never killed, because no one ever camps the Ferry’s.

    20: Reraise being dispelled

    --There isn’t anything that changing this would make less challenging and more engaging. How about giving WHM's a new ability that lets them revive themselves for the cost of an R1 @ any time?

    4/22: Jesus tap dancing christ reraise update is nice.

    21: XXXX wears off being the same color as other status effect messages

    -- This would make playing a mage job much easier.

    22: Day/Weather crap and the fact that a full set of mage crap to benefit from it takes up 24 spots.
    -- Seriously, 24 spots for everything if you get all the rare/ex items. As in the elemental potency though, no one ever really does this because they use Thunder and Blizzard all the time.
    -- Less of a bitch thanks to satchel, and the fact that mages are lazy (Water? thats a spell now?)
    23: Quests that take hours to complete and give no reward /dumb reward.
    -- Quests can be fun, and a lot of ToAU quests are awesome. Older quests that give like 2k gil for 3+ hours worth of work aren’t so much. It would be very nice if quests gave XP, like wow. Or if older quests where revised. (Note: Kind of fixed with campaign ops/wotg quests not being dumb, still a pain in the ass to skill up fame/do quests in older area's if your not 75)

    24: Coffer keys
    -- How about an NM in the zone thats in an normal coffer mob spot, has a 30 minute repop time, and ONLY drops the coffer key.
    -- (12/16) Coffer fatigue is bad and you should feel bad.

    25: Linkshell controls
    -- Because people suck, and there should be a switch to stop that.

    26: Paralyze wasting items
    -- Oiy. makes some things more a challenge than necessary.

    27: AoE enhancing magic on scholar.
    -- Yay! oh wait, it can't be used as sub and they don't get gravity/sleep/haste? FAIL.


    28: <call>s do not respect master game volume

    - (re: headphone users lose an eardrum), better yet, make a seperate slider for them

    29: /names could use a flag for toggling just player names on/off while mob/NPC's still show
    - maybe I could actually see and target the proper mob if there wasn't 50 damn names blocking the screen

    30: - PS2 lock-ups in Ru'Hmet
    - ps2 limitations


    Things that made us happy:
    1: ToA missions being passable by a balanced party of 6.
    -- WoG missions not locking you into one countries story line.

    2: 'Fixing' some jobs that where missing abilities that make them viable now.
    -- Pre 12/10: Why did this stop? Now: Where's my fucking update?

    4: Making stuff force popped
    -- but having to wait on the ??? after its dead sucks. 15min repops on ???'s = kind of long, especially when there isn't a single force pop that drops something sellable/worthwhile to sell 100% of the time. (that the economy wouldn't turn into an LOL item if RMT abused it)
    -- Thanks for making the new mission ???s repop timers not retarded.

    5: Macro's out the butt

    -- It would still be nice to have an external editor, especially now that the official windower is out. But I like having the ability to make largely situational macros now, thank you.

    6: Lowered dynamis cost/ increased drop rates

    -- Well holy shit, unexpected and nice.

    7: Restoring characters.

    -- It may have taken you half a year, but at least you did it.

    Player Issues(Or: I know what I'm talking about, I'm a 75What your trying to level)
    1: RDM's bitching about main healing in Meripo
    -- Quit using Cure IV bitch. This applies to other area's as well.
    -- Oh, you didn't level RDM to main heal? Well, you can't nuke or melee as well as other jobs and that's been known for 3 years / you've had three years to realize it. Shut the hell up.
    -- If your RDM bitches, invite a WHM/SCH

    2: People who have no clue

    -- Those Byakko pants you're wearing, did you win the lot on them after getting a blind invite? So you've been to that island before? Figure it out again, I'm not telling you how.

    3: Leeches

    - Who needs to show up to events when the linkshell leader is your brother? (Shameless stolen from later in the thread)

    4: World Maintenance's

    - See 24 hour NM comment.

    5: PVP that doesn't suck

    -- We will never see this

    6: Blinking making you lose target.

    -- Kind of major in some instance, but with blink happy ninjas........

    Job specific crap that no one cares about:
    1: It's ridiculous that people consider WHM "risky" as a merit or instance healer
    --Any good WHM on RDM/WHM will be able to go longer and be more effective than WHM/Anything in an XP party. This is dumb. Having said that, and having played with other WHM's while leveling recently, I now know why WHM is considered "risky" (hint: most whm's are morons)
    -- Added: Its nice other jobs can heal, can you give WHM's a boost soon so they're the BEST healers since other jobs can do just as well as them currently, some can do just as well and do MORE.
    -- Hopefully new WHM update will resolve this
    2: Stop buttfucking BLM's.

    1 xp camp at 75, forced to solo once they hit 30+ thanks to colibri, and more equipment to haul around than a 1980's Madonna show.
    --We get it, you want them to suffer for being awesome. Let up just a bit? The black eyes aren't pretty, and we're not certain they're all dating Chris Brown.

    3: SMN is basically a shittier version of Beastmaster

    -- And Beastmaster is a slightly varied version of warrior, that can be a tiny god in the right hands.

    -- Rolling thunder, it's the freaking rdm enthunder buff... its resist rate is dependent on the enhancing magic skill of the player it's cast on. So, it like other SMN BP's are mostly useless.


    3: SMN being mostly useless in an XP party if not mainhealing.

    4: Corsair cards being elemental based

    -- Why did there need to be 8 cards when there are 8 abilities? Why not just, say, 1 card?

    5: Now that Treasure hunter is out of the bag, THF's are almost completely useless end game when compared to other DD's.
    -- Unless they're pulling, Dynamis sucks.

    6: Give puppets party buff that isn't healing magic. You're already forcing them to /whm.
    -- Refreshga would divide the internet by zero, and i've always wanted to hear part of the internet die. Also, seeing every rdm in the game jealous of puppetmaster....c'mon

    7: Stop making useless JSE For Jobs that already have JSE

    -- We get it, one of the Dev's is a DRG and the other a BST. I have another acronym for you: DIAF

    8: No way to merit hMP. Talk about kicking mages in the nuts.

    -- Or: What I really wanted to merit before I leveled my Mage jobs.

    10: Random spell interrupting when your doing nothing but standing still

    -- I know this happens to everyone in those weird moments you say wtf? also seems to happen alot with ranged attacks.
    - Also: Bullshit player spell interrupts, you get hit for 5 dmg and your nuke is interrupted while melee's can drop 1400-1500+ dmg ws on a mob casting and they still get off the cast.

    Dynamis

    1: 4 Hours? 4 fucking hours?
    -- I'd love to know what the logic behind this was, but after 4 years people are still doing it. It'd be nice if Dynamis could be retooled a bit to be shorter.

    2: City zones not having NM's like in Xarc

    By this I mean NM's that have a high chance of dropping specific AF

    I could add more but feeling bad, stopping there.

    Minor, but the ship/airship "cutscenes" with your character walking as slow as possible through the gates piss me off. I've missed ships multiple times due to that crap.

    Yuhtunga and Yhoator Jungle OPs... yeah, dump me off right next to a Malboro/Tonberry when I'm OP warping on one of my lower level jobs, thanks Square. Hell, they fixed Cape Terrigan OP, why not these?

    There's more I'm sure, but those just came up in my mind as I was reading some of the minor crap you posted about because I've been wondering about those for quite some time.

    AF+1 mats being sellable would be retarded. There wouldn't be much incenctive for anyone to do any limbus unless they can wear/want homam/nashira if they could just buy the mats. Would also be annoying if people lotted mats for a job they have leveled that they don't intend to use, just to sell. Really stupid idea overall.

    Well, you still need coins. If anything, MORE people would do limbus than now because they can sell more than just the coins. I know people who just buy their earrings because they've already +1'ed what is useful for themselves.

    Aurik: I was talking about KS99's and all BC battles. 30's are still more or less a crap shoot depending on who you know / who wants to go.

    The sheer fact that it took the dev team so long to see glaring imbalances and problems and even longer to fix them.

    As for minor annoyances: Dieing to things that you can't even see in besieged.

    CoP missions are retardedly easy now, only issue is the level cap and the fact that people that did em back in the day are scared as shit.

    Did Tenzen with drk/sam, sam/war, rdm/whm, rdm/blm, didn't really take it all that seriously no meds or anything, pretty much cake, if that gives you any idea what it's like now.

    fuck yes. I used to charm the eyes and bats and solo taurs for hours.

    I'd still do it today, but no one seems to want to buy the codex... at just about any reasonable price.
