Fluid Spread and Barwater

Does Barwater(a) actually have any effect on mitigating the damage taken by Fluid Spread? I'm led to believe that Fluid Spread is a physical AOE attack (judging solely on the fact that it can be evaded), and as such has no magical properties, rendering any kind of water resistance useless against it. But everyone seems to swear by it in Apollyon SE.

My money's on physical, because it can take a number of shadows rather than strip them completely + damage.

Wrong forum, but I'll give you a good way to test it. Get 2 people, 1 in a full MDB/MDEF set, and piss off a slime in MtZ. If there is no substantial difference in damage taken on multiple tests, then it's physical and barwater doesn't help worth a damn.

Doesn't stop people shelling up for mijin gakure tho <_<

It's Physical, like stupid leaf storm. It looks/feels magical, but I don't beleive it is.

My rule of thumb : AOE strips utsesimi completely? Magical. AOE can take shadows? Physical.

Doesn't it also have that weird physical hit knockback animation too?

I'm a mage, I just stand back and it doesn't hit me, so I'm not sure.

Just remember: Baraera for Fafnir's wings, Barwatera for Slime's Fluid Spread, Barfira for Mijin Gakure and you can't go wrong!

I'm confused, and I apologize if this is some commonly-known thing, but am I to infer that Mijin Gakure isn't fire-based magical damage? Or that it is but just unaffected by shell and barfire?

Ya, I second that, definitely seems magical to me, MND gear + Barspell usually lets me pretty much resist most of the damage at least under 350 taken, as it doesn't break my stoneskin, if I don't have barspell or MND gear on, I'll end up taking 1k+ and am one shotted.

mijin is it's own kind of dmg, doesn't count as your typical elemental dmg, go mijin on JoTemperance and it'll actually do dmg. Meteor i think is considered as special dmg too.

I'm pretty sure he was was attempting to be humorous or amusing in that comment.

Anyhow, @LW, my understanding previously was that Meteor and Chi Blast were non-elemental, magic-class damage (and as such why some HNM take % chi-blast damage while others don't, and how you can still reduce the damage taken by meteor with sufficient MDB and magic-%), but that Mijin was simple fire-element magic damage. Although it wouldn't be the unique case of a magic-based spell or ability with an elemental attribute that can ignore resistance to that element (Nether Blast) or MDB and Magic damage -% (Aspir).

Barfira for Mijin Gakure

I would love to know what Mijin Gakure actually is... With merited barspells you also get a MDB. Of course it very much depends on how it works...

Even if it's not fire elemental damage, I figure the extra MDB might help.

I like to think of Fluid Spread as water-based physical damage, and cast barwatera if I'm fighting slimes. People will argue over it's true effectiveness, but it can't hurt to cast.

...except when you run in to cast barwatera for no good reason and get owned by fluid spread.
