Tried it. There are only two fucking tenses in English. Are you sure this isn't for a foreign language class? There are actually more than past and present tense in other languages. For example, imperative, preterite... the list goes on. But not in English (you can make the equivalent, but you can't technically call it that).

I dunno what grade Cream's friend is, but most teachers consider those tenses. Not saying your wrong, but I'd imagine that the assignment is going to include the perfects and progressives.

edit, to clarify perfects/progressives are aspects, but in assignments like these, I'd imagine the teacher is considering past perfect being a different "tense" from simple past etc.

I've both had to give assignments to the similar nature (for ESL students), and had to do assignments like that where they would consider them separate. It's just categories. As someone said, if the kid paid attention in class I'm sure there's been like a lit the teacher's gone over.

I'm pretty sure "Languange Arts" is the bureaucracy-approved way of saying grammar to kids so that the test looks like srs bizness when they take it. My money is on an English department covering its bases before a standardized test.
