    Display Issues

Alright, techies. This is my first time coming in here for assistance, let's see if you guys are up to snuff as I've heard.

I cracked my laptop screen some time ago whilst deployed. No biggie, didn't use it for shit other than diablo 2 with guys i work with. Anyway, I get home the other day, and I simply hook it up to an old monitor I had lying around the house. Well, that was working fine and dandy, so I went to updating the laptop on what all I've missed in the past 6 months. I did that and left, and when I came back, the monitor was receiving no signal from the laptop beyond the point just before the screen to put in a password appears. Help me out!

Did the updates happen to include a video driver update? Sounds like it's cutting out when Windows loads the driver, where the stuff before that is likely just outputting in standard VGA.

Can probably start it up in Safe Mode if that's the case and try to undo it.

i went back and rolled back to the previous driver configuration, not much of anything changed. so i disabled it completely and went in to regular windows mode, no issues there. i'm on vista, and a friend of mine thinks it has to do with the refresh rate for the monitor, but the only option i'm being given is hardware default. so we enabled and tried again, to no avail. any ideas on how to change up toe refresh rate? vista home premium, btw

Does it show a picture in Safe Mode? It could be an unsupported video mode, but you should be able to set it back down in Safe Mode and boot up like that. In 7 the refresh rate is set if you go to Advanced Settings from the Screen Resolution control panel, then look on the Monitor tab, can't recall for Vista.
