Actually I'm going to stop before this thread turns into another me + cadsuane + kuya having a conversation nobody else on the forum gets / cares about.
I love you guys in the gayest possible way.
@Cad:
Popular among whom? The only person I ever really see regularly slobbin' on his knobbin' is Ricky, and we all know that's just because he's sexually deprived and doesn't know any better.
It's a bit in-between. I consider myself a geek / nerd, but nobody else around me (who know me outside of the internet anyway) consider me one, no matter what I do.
It's a tip of the hat to kuya's point that I don't fit in the accepted persona of what people consider a geek because I don't complete the package.
But see (iono if you bothered to read the whole convo) but I mentioned exactly that.
here to ask, do you think gays and nerds are bullied for the exact same reason? This is what Kuya thinks, and I disagree for exactly what you said. Nerds don't necessarily fall away from that idea of a "man" (muscles, sports, etc.) nor do gays (ie not all are "flammers").
But in your situation do you think if you were "gay" instead of a "nerd" that people would have treated you in the same way, and no one would have attacked you for it?
Bullies target people who are different. It doesn't really matter what the difference is; bullies are going to target it.
I don't think having earned the approval of either of the two is grounds for a declaration of forum-wide admiration. If it wasn't for his avatar, I wouldn't know who the fuck Abandon was, and as I previously touched on, Ricky is too anxious for someone to jam it in his pooper to be able to differentiate between desirable and not-even-if-I-were-ruffied.
I go tanning, use moisturizer, I cut and style hair, and know more about make-up than most of the females who post on these boards. I shop almost exclusively at Express and Guess, and I won't leave the apartment, even for an 8am class, without looking nice. If I didn't wear a wedding band every person I talked to would assume I was gay (as opposed to the ~30% who are shocked to find out I'm not gay 1-2 weeks after getting to know me).
The majority of my adult life I've just been comfortable with the fact that because I don't think it's A-OK to walk around in public in sweatpants and the shirt I got drunk in last night I must take it in the ass. I've never really had a problem with it, but I will say - when I was younger - I did get in a few fights that started with something to the effect of "watch where you're standing, fag!" and I've never gotten in a fight that started "watch where you're playing magic the gathering, nerd!" so, who really knows.
It all boils down to what excuse someone wants to use to play "tough guy". I'd say it depends heavily on where you are from / community you live in, etc, but I'm nowhere near as qualified to speak to it as some of the honestly gay and nerdy guys here.
Tsuko is a casual.
Better a casual than a nerd.
As you said you are just a specific case, and therefore can't be proof of the whole, but at least you might understand why I think the way I do then considering it basically happened to you. (even though you aren't actually gay)
I still think that there is something (whether social/religious/fear/Idon'tknow), that makes people more inclined to attack someone who is gay vs. someone who is a nerd. I agree there's that fundamental basis about "being different" which can come to anything not just nerds (ie. obesity), but I do think there's more it it than just that when it comes to gays that bullies are so against.
