DirectTV to drop G4

Unfortunately, that's what happens when you try to carve out your own niche. Either you cater to that target audience and get low numbers or you don't and they don't like you.

I do tech support at a DirecTV call center. Since the announcement about DTV dropping G4 I haven't received a single call about it, whereas when DTV was negotiating a deal with God TV, we got dozens of calls per day about it.

Only stuff I watch on G4 now is X-Play and Attack of the Show. They also had pretty awesome coverage of Comic Con and E3. The Sexpo shows are interesting, too bad they can't show nudity and such though.

TechTV was the shit, but while some of you watched the show for Leo, others for the geek girls... I was in it for Patrick Norton. The guy was a BEAST when it came to those electronics man.

G4 isn't a gaming centric channel anymore because they couldn't keep high enough viewership to support it when it was gaming only. The ironic thing is that Cheaters, Cops, insert garbage program etc is really what carries the network. They can't return to larger gaming content because those programs don't get the numbers to support it because people don't watch those particular shows, but people piss and whine when there's no gaming content.

Cops is fucking awesome. Nothing else of note on that shitfest of a channel.

Used to watch AoTS and X-Play, but stopped watching those a while back. Just pull the plug on the whole network IMO. There used to be this one show on G4 with like a round-table of people discussing gaming (was like 2 girls and a guy?), used to watch that show religiously. Ah yes, and Screensavers, that was good too.

Think we all miss the screen savers lol. And Ninja warrior/sasuke was awesome the first like 20 tournaments. After the one dude finally won and they did the latest redesign though I think it just kinda went wtf@that and I know I at the least lost interest. For some reason they feel knocking out 95 people in the first round is riveting TV, when it's absolutely boring to watch everyone get crushed in the first 90seconds of the first stage =\.

I believe you're thinking of a show called G4tv.com. Personally I couldn't stand the hosts of that show.

I don't hate G4 as much as everyone else seems to. As G4 currently stands I still enjoy AOTS and X-Play but I vastly prefer X-Play's older style rather than it's new serious gaming news show format (Also can't stand Blair Herter). I enjoyed Ninja Warrior a lot more before I heard about G4 editing different competitions together. Not particularly a fan of Cops/Campus PD/Cheaters especially when it's played pretty much all day as filler. Movies that don't Suck was a good idea until it also began to get spammed.

There was some good stuff back in the day I wish they'd bring back (Cinematech, filter, etc). Also a couple things from their website that they could possibly adapt to tv. Namely Feedback; I watch that pretty regularly and it's about 45~ish minutes of gaming/gaming industry discussion between Adam Sessler and few other G4 game reviewers/editors.

They will occasionally slip in a reference to their past line-up of shows in a mocking manner. I was watching some review on X-Play, I don't even remember what game it was for, and Morgan casually mentioned something about an arena in the game. Cue a quick cut to Kevin Pererra and that other guy from the old show Arena circa 2003-4ish shouting "ARENA!!!!!!" into the camera. I did a double take and had a good chuckle.

The only reason to keep G4 is Sasuke(Ninja Warrior), the rest of the channel is crap, but for the last 5-6 runs I've watched the original Japanese broadcast, which is 10x better than G4s hacked up edit of it, so I could give 2 shits about G4 now. The only positive thing is that they provide funding for the tournament, which isn't doing so hot in Japan and might be canceled if they can't revive interest in it.

AotS and Xplay was all I gave a shit about, and even that lost my interest. Then again, I have Brighthouse and not DirectTV.. Brighthouse is garbage, but we have AMC HD :3 Christina Hendricks in HD is <3

Does anyone remember Portal? That show was awesome. They had FFXI on it for an episode or two before it was canned.

G4TV was awesome around holiday 2004. It has really declined into unwatchable garbage. I totally forgot it existed once ~2007 rolled around.

I liked G4 for the most part..

What I didn't like was all the Ninja Warrior and gay Asian shows that were on there. So fucking boring/annoying...

Cops was alright...Cheaters...meh...

XPlay, AotS and Movies That Dont Suck were the only good parts of G4...
