That looks like a really solid PC, Psion. That's my exact HD, and my PSU is the 650W Earthwatts, I have no complaints about either. I have a Radeon 5850 which is apparently slightly outperformed by the 6870, and my processor is trash so I'd imagine you should be good to go, especially if you overclock the CPU.

Ratatapa, I'm not a fan of leaving laptops on. I don't think it's catastrophically bad for them or anything, but they do tend to build up quite a bit of heat, especially if you have a game that's as intensive as FFXIV just running. I'd keep the PC for sure for things like that. And if you plan to be using it that much, I'd also invest in a laptop cooling pad.

I can't imagine how hard FFXIV would make a laptop run, it already makes a pretty solid PC run pretty hot :s

I want to get a Laptop that will play this so i can play on the go but i dont really know much about laptop parts.
I've seen some of the cards mentioned in here.

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

Those are basically my two choices. I dont know if they will even run this game though. I guess what im asking is should i even bother?

I highly doubt a 425M will work, however a 5870M should be able to handle the game with moderate settings/res.

I'd absolutely get the machine with the Mobility 5870 if I could afford it, since it's much better by far for laptop gaming.

Also here's some real good info on the GT 425M - It's not a 5870, but it will run the game decent enough.

Edit: See the new post I just created about laptop gaming & specs for XIV.

If you're looking for an alternative to ATI 5870M, I think you should be looking at the Nvidia 460M rather than 425M.

The reason i getting a laptop is because my job has been forcing me to travel a lot recently and will for the next few months. Its not my permanent gaming machine. Also i knew the 460 would be good to go and i would have got it if they had one. The Best buy here doesn't though and i wont be here long enough to order something. Its pretty frustrating actually. I really dont want to buy a laptop from a store like this to begin with but im also tired of not being able to play. I'm not really familiar with laptop parts at all especially ATI. I appreciate everyones help and advice though i'll probably pick one up tonight.
