someone remind me why we have a whitelist if we're just going to add every faggot with like 100 posts who asks

the issue isn't flint and steel, it's griefers. they found a way when TNT was banned, they'll find one if flint and steel is banned. For the time being, flint and steel is useful for clearing things like leaves, for making fireplaces, for lighting netherstone, for destroying blocks when you're clearing your inventory so you don't immediately pick them back up, etc. so it should be left in.

Regarding the use of using fire to clear leaves, is there a general guide-line to follow to ensure the fire won't spread out and run out of control? I got a shitload of leaves around my house on the server (and a shitload more on my SSP world), but I don't want to risk burning my wooden house or having the fire spread to all the other trees in my region, wrecking possible havoc on the server CPU.

Fire can jump a one-block gap between blocks of flammable material, so you'll want to clear a 2-block gap around the leaves you intend to burn. Don't simply assume that because two treetops aren't touching that the fire won't burn both when you light one.

If you're using fire to clear leaves, just make sure you clear a gap of at least 3 blocks in any direction from the point where your fire will end. I've always used this method and haven't had any mishaps.

And punch the fire sprite to put it out if need be. I watched that guy burn his house down again on that youtube video recently and the idiot's initial reaction was to turn around, grab his bucket, scoop up water from his bathtub and go dump it on his burning bookshelf.

Man that video is still hilarious. "this isn't even funny"

2nd looks good with mossy cobblestone. Because the stone is around water/near grass/trees etc. Looks realistic. Not sure if it'd look as good with normal cobblestone though.

Option 1 is nice but I really think 2 will only work with mossy. (Maybe because I think normal cobble looks like shit) So Op 2(mossy) > OP1 > OP2 normal!

Jinn, have you thought about trying to do different biomes on your project?

I will be adding snow/ice to 1 and have it bleed over a bit to 2 others, making one desert with cactus too :O I also wanted to have one with lava instead of water and have perma burning trees but I don't know if that will be good idea for the server if in fact fires do cause the lag

Prior to buckets getting fixed and some other stuff, one of the BG miners imported some blocks to help preserve certain elements of the game. The castle that Elimir and I built was in a snowy tundra and with all our construction we kicked up a lot of snow, so he brought in some snow tiles and ice to keep the biomes in tact. I still got some snow left over so I'm thinking of using it on my project, then just put some sand to simulate the desert biome
