Official BG Minecraft Server Thread

I just took the time to update my MC server to 1.3.2 and update all plugins (that are: MendelSheep, Train Carts, NoLagg, dynmap and WorldBorder).

It's currently set to 8 players max, the machine it's running on has only 1GB RAM. I suppose, 16 users would work, too. Also, US<->Europe latency.

Rules are quite simple: Do what you want, but don't destroy stuff other people are building. If there's a torch nearby, someone probably "owns" this spot.

If anyone wants to hop on there, PM me your username and I'll answer with a whitelist entry and the server address.

I have a vanilla minecraft server I don't mind sharing. Its up 24/7 right now its just for me and another BG user i'm close to. As it's a personnal server on my own computer, I will whitelist it and add people as they ask. Please don't share it with anyone.

The server has 3GB memory dedicated to it, but I can up it to 6GB or more as needed.

heh the only server i've been playing on recently has feed the best installed, which is a giant mod pack. wont have much time to play though until i get back in town on the 15th

last thing i was doing was trying to find an efficient mark I - 6 chamber reactor using between 6-8 quad uranium cells

Only server I've been playing on has Better Than Wolves total conversion installed, with a biome o plenty add on for it. You probably wouldn't like it though, as BTW turns vanilla MC into actual survival, and damn is it hard, lol. It's well balanced, but it really requires you to rethink your entire play style as if it was a new game, not minecraft. It also has some nice creative options if you like aesthetics, but instead of going the microblock route and weirdly specific shapes a lot of forge mods has, it gives you a few essential sub blocks that connect well with each other, letting you get creative with them.

I've only finally managed to get out of the early game and can work my way up the tech tree, after a week of constant dying and starving and dying and raging at spiders throwing webs to pin me down while they and their buddies ganged up on me. XD The biggest challange you face in the game when you start isn't monsters, (well ok, monsters too) but starvation. Animals don't respawn in BTW, and both zombies and spiders attack animals, reducing their population in no time flat, which means you need to explore to find new animals, while securing some for yourself to breed later... or you'll regret it. Chickens are the first useful animal since you can feed them seeds to lay eggs, then throw eggs for raw eggs to cook for food, and the occasional baby chicken to get more. (you can't breed them other than the egg hatching mechanic) Later on you can find wheat and carrots in villages, but only ones far out, requiring you to explore for them as additional food sources and breeding for cows, sheep, and pigs. none of those perfectly edible potatos and carrots from zombies here, nor seeds from random grass!

Honestly, it changes so much you really have to read the changelog or watch a recent lets play to get an idea of how it is. I love it, but it's definitely not for everyone, heh.

I've been playing the hexxit mod a bit. It makes the game sooooooo much more interesting while exploring. It's tough to play single player though, you really need at least 2 people. http://www.technicpack.net/hexxit

If you're playing FTB with hardcore Gregtech (and playing without it makes Minecraft retarded easy so hopefully the answer is yes) then you're going to want to avoid doing that. Uranium is not an easy resource to come by and Ultimate Hybrid panels are still the best way to get to a stable power grid.

I would recommend doing a single chamber reactor using Thorium and Plutonium when it is available from processing Uranium and Centrifuging. Uranium power will get you a head start early but you will kick yourself later. I sort of run a ton of power sources with the nuclear being just one of them, I've found the best bang early on is to get yourself into the Nether and start tesseracting lava for Thermal Generators. You can literally build your entire base around this process, use Xycraft tanks for looks and ease of use and just build 2-4 max sized ones and run 12 generators off each. For a small amount of resources (relatively) you get yourself in the 768-1536eu/t range and you can literally do it as soon as you have a single chamber nuclear power source up and running with an MFSU to power the machines. Most of that can go straight into the matter fab too and you're already good to go on UU Matter production.

idk, I really enjoy FTB and most of what comes with it. There are some things you have to turn off, but building something that looks cool on the outside is only half the challenge, building stuff that's cool and automated on the inside gives it some additional longevity. I really like Applied Energistics too, holy shit. You can do some pretty crazy stuff with that.

i did a bit of tekkit, but it was back when you could abuse equivalent exchange and just afk generate red matter to transmute into other shit, and I'm pretty sure they changed it by now

Yeah, I never found those modpacks to be much fun. By the time you get the top of the tech trees your basically playing creative mode, no real balance at all. Especially since you often find something in one mod lets you take shortcuts in another. Guess it's why I like better than wolves so much, because it's incompatible with pretty much everything by design, the author can balance his mod properly. Of course, it's more roguelike in design with a persistent element. when you die, you respawn randomly within a 2k radius around spawn area. this point changes every 20 minutes. This means you're not going to easily find your old bases at first, but as you accumulate deaths and build more landmarks, you start figuring out where your main base is and start progressing more. It also means your landscape becomes littered with bases and building, instead of having one building in the middle of an infinite world. so it's definitely not for everyone, but it makes survival feel like actual survival mode, and making things feels like a real achievement.

Only other mods i found enjoyable were thaumcraft and mystcraft, but they're not so well balanced, especially once you throw other mods into the mix.

Psion, that spawn stuff sounds really interesting and makes me want to try it out. Although, I also feel you might like feed the beast. It seems to be decently balanced. There really aren't any shortcuts or hax like there was in tekkit, mainly because there's no Equivilent Exchange. It also has thaumcraft and mystcraft.
