out of curiosity what is causing all those slimes to spawn? I'm still messing around on the other server and I still haven't seen a single one

slimes spawn close to bedrock in open spaces, in smp they are kinda immortal due to bugs atm, so they just keep mulitplying since you cant kill 95% of them

Are water elevators reliable online? My island is pretty high-up and I'm not that big on having to jump up a staircase or climb ladders.

Yes. My friend has one for the giant watchtower which he built. The only problem is the boats are kind of buggy in SMP so it's rather frustrating to get out of one.

seems to find slimes I had to venture outside of my region once >.>

Clearing out the mine below my island, and I opened a small 3x3 room. And there he was. Poor lonely guy (he soon exploded :/ )

edit, before I had the logs going all the way to top and bottom I had them broken up with 1 block of cobble on first and 8th block as well
