As far as I know, the way people have done it in the past is just a mod that lets you warp to certain coordinates.

Excited about wolves... Also, in case you missed the details about stats/achievements...

I worked on the achievement and stats system. One design issue was dealing with offline mode and synching the achievements once you get a connection again, but that’s been solved. We’ve got a couple of people in the office who don’t like achievements in games at all, so the goal is to design something that they’re fine with.

Achievements will NOT be chores like “cut down 10000 trees”, but rather challenges like “ride a pig off a cliff”. Stats, however, will be used to keep track of how many trees you have cut down. The long term plan is to show achievements and stats from the profile page on minecraft.net as well, in case you want to brag.

Just keep in mind that because you can design your own levels and run your own servers, people will be able to cheat with achievements and stats!

Incredibly cool, but the map is much too dark. Would be a bit nicer if you could see things more clearly when you are walking around. There are an amazing amount of ideas in it though that you can only really see if you download the map yourself and walk around.

That video becomes less and less impressive the more you realize how little of it was done "by hand" and how much of the architecture/interior design is not original...

Also, the documentary kicker broke their goal by like 7 grand. Sheesh.

How long did that take to render? I just did my local multiplayer map and it took 35min, and ate a good 1.4gb drive space using all the default settings. Bit curious how the massive mine1/2 maps compare.

+20 hours and over 20GB using the default settings.
