Is that a mod for the interface or has minecraft undergone some serious updates? I haven't played in a long ass time so it wouldn't surprise me. Battle axe!?

Nothing has changed with Minecraft visually except for Ambient Occlusion style soft lighting. Everything else is a texture mod. I don't think they have any intention of ever changing existing graphics to such an extent.

I'm so disconnected and haven't logged on in weeks all because I'm just too busy. God, flying around the world and drowning myself in German beer sucks. I need them to get crackin' on the iOS version of Minecraft so I can play anywhere.
