Yeah mines the one that is poking out from the south down there. I kind of stopped it there because I didn't want to intrude. It needs a lot of work, but I wanted to at least get the rails laid down before I worried about aesthetics, at least on my end of things haha.

    from Notch's twitter:
    http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/68693850062995456
From my changelist: "* Fixed minecarts next to each other causing extreme velocities (sorry!)"
anyone know how hard it is to set up a minecart system in general? Do powered rails make it a lot easier, and can you do it without powered minecarts?

Minecart systems are pretty easy to set up. The only real downside is that if you've just started a new world, don't expect to have a rail system anytime soon. The amount of iron you'll need is pretty high if you're looking to make anything far away. And on top of that you'll now need gold in order to make the powered rails. Seeing as how gold is pretty much useless aside from making powered rails, it is a good investment.

If you're already playing on an established world where you have a good stockpile of iron and gold then it shouldn't be an issue. All you have to do is make the rails, lay them out and have some redstone torches made to turn on the powered rails.

The new powered rails make it a lot easier to make railways as well. It doesnt matter what way they are facing, if a cart moves onto it from one direction it is propelled the same way. So you really only need 1 track.

    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Powered_Rail

You're better off just reading that then having me try to explain everything. It really is quite simple now though. Making boosters was a pain in the ass and even though powered rails may not be as effective they are a welcome addition to the game as far as I am concerned.

So do you even need powered carts at all now? Or can you just make do by starting your cart on an incline?

Particularly frustrating about boosters was the fact that, though they could take you a lonnnng way, if for some reason you got stopped for whatever reason, you were pretty much left by yourself with no real way to restart. Powered rails are awesome in my opinion. That picture on the right side of the page that Mots linked to is how I start all of my rails and it has been flawless and simple to build. You can even make similar points for stopping stations with a button that can restart you quickly and with one click. I'm a huge fan. I hated building cart boosters that were sketchy and flawed.

Yeah, you really dont need powered Carts at all now. No real need to start on an incline either. Just make a starting area with a button and you're good to go.

sorry! I have been meaning to check out the server at some point.

I have so much shit built on my single player game though, seems like such a waste to give it all up. I could post screenshots later!

If you guys are ever in the mood to go exploring some ruins, connect to 2b2t.net.

http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewto...=1025&t=219311 Read this thread for more info.

Far out in the community, there exists a unique server. A server that has nothing, and everything. A seven month old world, that has been going by being public, having no, seriously NO rules. No host/owner/admin, no moderating, no control. It has all been up to the players, and will always be. The result? Major communities including facepunch, 4chan, somethingawful and other smaller forums. Spread everywhere basically. What happened? A bunch of stuff. One of them is spawn looking like THIS:
    10656 unique players have connected.
    World is 7 months old.
    World is 14.2gb
Furthest distance from spawn is 176,139 blocks.
176km at 8m/s (Minecart Speed) is 6 hours.
On foot it is close to 10 hours.

I've got a small, well-hidden outpost on there. Located at x: 625, y: 78, z: 330 (press F3 to see coords). Its in the side of a hill, like a hobbit hole. Feel free to grab any of the stuff out of the chest inside. Its about a 5 minute walk from spawn, which is dangerously close and will probably get ruined at some point.

I've found a few residences while digging out here. Underground reed/tree farms, obsidian factory, mob farm. Its definitely interesting to not be the first person to build in an area. "I wonder why the guy who built here before me walled this off?" is a question that always produces fun answers.

Ok here you go. I've been working on this world for months so it's a lot of stuff. Keep in mind that this is all legit, I don't use editors or anything and I mined all of the materials myself.

    WARNING: lots o images
    Spoiler: show

My new settlement "Verdant Fields", eventually this will be a number of buildings along a central main street with a tower at the north end. The 2 wooden structures in the foreground are shortcuts to the Portal and to the branch mine.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184840.png

The "bookstore", still needs a lot of work (including a 3rd story). The 2nd and 3rd floors will have various rooms not necessarily related to books:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184741.png

The fields Temple, there's a 2nd floor with 2 small reliquaries and a small 2 story house on the roof
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184020.png

My reed farm, manual harvest but it's pretty quick and you can get 6 stacks from one pass of all 3 floors. The 4th floor is a small fully furnished apartment
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184800.png

This was my first house in Verdant Fields, just a bit south of the main town and right by the staircase up from the portal. It also houses my main storage for this area, in the basement:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184923.png

    House interior, incl. storage/vault:
    Spoiler: show

From inside the dome part looking at the living area. The ladder down to the vault is in the center along the far wall.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_184946.png

Just down into the vault. There are 3 branches with chests, as well as 2 furnace banks behind me. The center hallway leads down into a treasure vault
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185003.png

    Approaching the treasure vault:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185014.png

Treasure vault, where I keep most of my overflow ores/gems, records, saddles, etc:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185033.png

Portal room for Verdant Fields, deep underground. There's a small workshop behind the portal there to the right. The glass areas are the shortcut chutes (water brake) to the branch mine and from the surface
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185135.png

    Nether
The Nether from the Verdant Fields portal, looking towards my island fortress. The fortress is about halfway between Verdant Fields and my main settlement Bright Forest (yes I intentionally chose cliche sounding names). I still need to enclose this bridge in glass/stone:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185201.png

    Fortress interior:
    Spoiler: show

Looking at the rest of the fortress from the workshop:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185220.png

The bridge leading from the fortress to the Bright Forest portal. To the left you can see the portal for my Mob Trap and branch mine for that area.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185303.png

The enclosure/citadel for Bright Forest, my first settlement:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185325.png

Just through the Mob Trap portal. On the right you can see the entrance to the branch mine. On the plus side, running the mob trap for a long period of time causes a HUGE number of slimes to spawn down in the mines, which has given me a fair number of slimeballs:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185424.png

Bright Forest tower and portal. This is basically my home base. I call it Bright Forest because I spent a long ass time replanting trees so all of them were the big tall ones, and then I put torches on all of them, so at night it's really nice with canopy all over most of the town.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185526.png

    Tower Interior shots:

    Approaching the Forest Temple:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185538.png

    Temple Interior:
    Spoiler: show

    Lapis doggie statue!
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185549.png

Reliquary hidden beneath the Forest Temple, accessed via a ladder behind the lapis statue:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185611.png

Not pictured here, in the opposite direction from the tower is a bridge leading across the bay. Halfway across there's a small building holding an Incinerator, and across the bay is a model of my real life apartment.

    Interior shot of my apartment:

2 more buildings in Bright Forest on the way from the Portal to another big house. The one on the left is an infinite cobblestone generator and the one on the right is an automatic cactus farm:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185821.png

Bridge leading across to another big house (currently called Forest Mansion).
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185830.png

    mansion interior:
    Spoiler: show

Downstairs, facing storage rooms and workshop and library:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185847.png

Upstairs, facing terrarium and bedroom and indoor tree:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185905.png

Bright Forest's wheat farm, and a small treehouse:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185926.png

Looking up at the Observation platform:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_185950.png

    Observation deck interior:
    Spoiler: show

There's a small bedroom up that ladder. Behind me is a deck that drops down into a dive pool
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_190031.png

Not pictured is a reed farm here too, nothing special but it gives like 3 stacks at a time.

I call this one Bento House:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...-12_190114.png

    Interior shots:

That's mostly it. I have another apartment built into the side of a mountain that I built while searching for spruce trees too, as well as a few secrets (a hidden waterfall bunker and one of my houses has a hidden treasure room behind a painting). Still got a ton of work left (now including a minecart system) and I really hope I don't get sick of minecraft before I finish lol.

Yeah, really Atreides. Stop building in single player. I want to be able to walk around your cities. Your Bento Building is awesome. I like that a lot of your buildings are of modern design. Lots of cool shapes and such.

thanks guys! Alright, I guess I'll check out the server later on this weekend if I'm feeling inspired. I have a sinking feeling this might make me even more addicted to minecraft (if that's even possible), my bf fucking hates this game lol

edit: how does it work with materials? do you just wander around until you find an area that hasnt been mined? Do you have to walk a long ass distance in order to find shit like flowers and dungeons for moss stone?
