Actually yeah i dont know what timezone he's in so maybe its not that time for him but thats dedication either way! lol hopefully he fixes some of this stuff pretty soon though.
yea I wanna get back to working on my castle![]()
21 minutes ago from Notch on Twitter.
"Minecraft Beta 1.6.5 is out. Let me know how it is."
When I right click with a tool that has been dropped it still disappears.
Are you sure you updated? It seems fixed for me. I've been trying to get it to insta break by dropping, dying, whacking, and so far nothing. seems back to normal.
Ah, my server hadn't been updated. Updating fixed it.
So i'm trying to figure out why my mushroom farm sucks so much (I planted about 24 at 10 AM and I've gotten 3 more in 2 hours), then I looked at the wiki. Apparently a mushroom will only spread out once every 2 hours, meaning you need a HUGE initial crop to make it grow enough shrooms to make it worth harvesting. I am really not looking forward to building a huge dark warehouse/cave just for mushrooms![]()
I'm not really sure what you're doing wrong, but I planted 16 and got about 4 while I started to work on the other side of the room. They took about 10 mins to grow.

I think you were just unlucky ;x
Guy who made the thread mentions getting mushrooms every 5 minutes or so with 5-10 mushrooms planted in dark rooms. Apparently they got a 5 x 5 spread area. They also seem able to spawn through barriers since he mentioned rogue mushrooms cropping up in his wheat farm through the wall.
Combined with my observation that water will uproot mushrooms, and that they can spawn in a 1 block high area, you could probably build an automatic mushroom farm, with mushrooms on raised blocks that wont get knocked down by water when harvesting, as "seeds" to grow more, and either using 1 block high roofs in pitch blackness or perhaps surrounding the area with stone or something to keep mobs from attacking you, with just a collection hole for the mushroom harvest. Just put water in the appropriate slot and harvest whatever mushrooms sprouted!
I'll probably make a prototype when i get to making a monster spawner.
Also, I can has server working again? ;-; I havent been able to log on since last night . . .
hmm, interesting stuff. My red mushrooms seems to be growing a lot faster than my brown mushrooms btw, not really sure why.
I guess that means your seed mushrooms should be spaced 2+ blocks apart (as opposed to every other block) if you're planning on leaving them for a long time? I'm not really sure what the best pattern for planting would be...
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O X O O O O X O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O X O O O O X O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
Where X = mushroom and O = dirt, stone, whatever.
And the speed of growth is the same for both, for you it just means your red mushrooms grew more mushrooms first, which means their chances of producing more mushrooms increased, which means more mushrooms for red, which means more chances of producing more... etc.
Other people say the opposite as you lol.
Is there a way to delete far away chunks so that when something new does come out, I won't have to walk for 10 mins to get to the new stuff on my server?
that pattern seems like you'd really need a huge amount of space then, I was thinking something like
OOXOOXOOXOOXOOXOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOXOOXOOXOOXOOXOO
with maybe a 2nd row in between. I know it's not as efficient but I'd rather have a slightly smaller building and just harvest more often. Anyway, in the hour I was at the gym I got 10 mushrooms from my seed crop of 24, I guess a watched pot never boils or something lol
Ragns needs to reset the server or upgrade it to 1.6.5 or something.Supposedly it fixes the lag/crash issues on SMP. Hopefully.
They are, but mushroom stew has the highest heart for your buck of all foods in the game, so they're pretty handy. Just carry wooden bowls or a stack of planks to make em, a crafting bench, and a stack of normal and red mushrooms and you can heal a metric crapton of hearts for only 4 spaces. And if you are adventuring in the nether, you often find replacement shrooms to refill any you use up too.
1.6.5 still crash the server randomly![]()
; ; I want my minecraft fix! sooooo close to finishing my spiral tower too ; ;
Notch: "If Terraria is our competition, I'm damned proud to compete against it. It's one seriously awesome game. *takes notes of things to copy*"
I sure hope so!
