I'd like to think there has to be *something* to point at and claim "that's what fixed it" beyond their presence, but I suppose people are retarded.
you'd suppose correctly.
Especially since the right will believe anything that comes out of fox news it wouldn't be too hard to say "hey, you guys were upset back in 2010, but once we got a hold of the House, look at how much better the economy is!"
At that point, do you think anyone on the right would listen to the Dem's say "no we started the ball rolling!"?
Seriously wtf man... he better not cave on those tax cuts.
This just further proves my point that the only thing that is high priority for politicians is winning the next election.McConnell's speech at the Heritage Foundation was so sickening. I mean Boehner is talking about being open to compromise, Obama is talking about compromise, and not even 2 days out from the election and McConnell is already reinforcing what he said about Republicans first priority being to make sure Obama is a 1 term president. How about the economy, shithead? I can't tell if the republican leadership really missed the message of this years elections (especially in the senate) or if McConnell is just butthurt about not becoming the new majority leader.
Politicians only look out for #1... themselves.
Keep in mind that Republicans have a slippery situation with economy considering they will want to paint the President as a failure. They know they can't rely on people's memories of what happened two years ago, our collective memory as the electorate is about 2 months.
yea, and they don't really have the option of running on their own principles since the ultra-conservative right (along with the tea party, to some extent) has over-purified the party, meaning any presidential candidate from the republicans is going to have to be a fiscal conservative, a hawkish pro-war/pro-military type, but also a social conservative, someone way too far to the right on gay rights/abortion/race to run on their own merits without having a huge target painted on their back.
hey can't really campaign on fiscal issues either, since appeasing the tea party and the conservative base means they have to be against social security/medicare or else they'll get called out for not being able to pay for any of their programs. The increased scrutiny of senate races over house races this year and their subsequent losses in NV/DE/CO this year should be a pretty good indicator of what will happen to a "perfect republican" pro-tea party candidate in 2012
edit: simply put unless they realize in the next couple of months that they can't win a presidential election by only appealing to middle aged white men they're going to be in big trouble lol
I know it's kinda partisan but Rachel Maddow had a hilarious thing on how compromise will probably go in the house next year
it's the first clip in the sidebar on the left here, "Republicans set up road blocks..."

It's not partisan to realize there's not going to be compromise next 2 years. It's going to be the same shit, except the democrats will be using their filibuster power in the senate instead of the other way around.
I actually look forward to seeing what the Rs in the house pass. Except for compromise bills, nothing really substantial will pass both the senate and the president's desk. But merely voting yes will be awesome ammunition in 2012. Man I can almost see the attack-ads already if any of them so much as breathe in the direction of social security or medicare? Quite interested to see what else, if anything, they can cut in a substantial way.
relevant:
Pretty much a few examples of why I feel the next couple years are gonna blow in terms of progression. Granted, immigration or energy policies aren't the higher points on my own agenda, it highlights the absurdity of the system and some of the people within it.
Wonder how much I could get for Steve King replica walls on ebay.
That is the weirdest lisp I have ever heard.
edit: I don't even know what to say about the fact that rachel maddow got quoted between the post I was responding to and this post.
The 1st 45 secs had me rolling.

rachel maddow is pretty awesome yea
I'm inclined to agree with the nothing getting done crowd. As we just saw, even with a super-majority it's hard to get stuff done. And even then the Dem's got only 2 big things through.
lol!
