I find it funny that both parties talk about reducing the deficet, but in the end neitehr party votes for the measures to do it because they'll lose political capital. Dems give up their strategy of raising taxes on the wealthy, while the Repubs give up on their strategy to reduce gov spending, just so each side can get the opposite. So we have:

Rich get richer, unemployment extended, deficit gets bigger.

instead of

Rich pay more to reduce the deficit, unemployment benefits frozen, deficit goes down.

Not sure we got the better of the deals here.
