then go vote with a paper ballot, jesus christ. And I am not going to explain twice in one thread why voting in florida is just as important if not more so than voting anywhere else.

If you don't want to vote then don't vote, but you are not cute or funny or privy to some sort of special information that the rest of us poor voting schlubs don't know about. You are more than welcome to be cynical and not vote but the person who really loses out in the situation is you, if that's alright with you then that's great, but keep it to yourself. Saying why you personally don't want to vote is fine but trying to actively persuade others that their votes are meaningless is beyond despicable.

I'm actually glad people like Cream Soda don't vote.

It's sort of like the way I'm glad that retarded people don't drive.

In fact, I think the problem in Florida might actually be that too many politically ignorant people do vote and too many retarded people make the decision to drive...

People attacking Cream Soda should back off. He's not the problem, he's (perhaps unwittingly) the solution.

And for that, I salute him.

The thing is although folks like CS may not give a shit, people in his situation have serious concerns that government can help with, and if more like him voted, then government could no longer ignore the needs of those who seek education/employment. A shift in the majority voting demographic means we no longer have to enslave our national policies to social security and national defense. It may seem pie-in-the-sky ideal but all that can happen if the young and underrepresented could just start giving a shit. It's their dollars currently being siphoned off to the old folks.

Obama's victory could probably be contributed more to the overall dissatisfaction with what voters perceived as the negative direction the GOP was taking America in (though, I suppose simple minded thinking like that does qualify as a degree of ignorance...).

I agree. With that said though, instead of just blindly encouraging people to go vote, we should make the effort to show these young poor minorities how what is going on politically directly affects them. Then, leave the decision of whether to vote or not up to them. If, knowing the issues, they choose not to vote, so be it.

Edit: Just want to say that I agree with the notion that contemporary politicians are systematically fucking over the generations to come in an effort to pander to uneducated and greedy old people who will vote against anyone who tries to solve the problem of the massive entitlement programs.

I present to you the most threatening political force of our current era:

Funny how this thread got me to make an account to be able to post.

Hey, do you guys like how no candidates are talking about the economy?
It's cool to ignore the biggest issue in the world right now.
Oh wait, were not in a recession/depression anymore, silly me.
Really, all I hear is about the economy. Republican objections to Obamacare are based on the economy. Extending the Bush tax cuts are about the economy.

we should make the effort to show everyone how what is going on politically directly affects them.
Fixed. I know the people in question tend to be poor minorities, but a rich, white moron is just as bad as poor black one.

jobs are the #1 issue in this election, jobs and the economy, I think most everyone would agree on that. It'll almost certainly be about jobs in 2012 too, since the unemployment rate shows little sign of improving in the near future
