Some more data on non-universal crafting gear:
I asked a 35 CRP wearing Canvas Robe on the bonuses he/she got from it: +7 craftsmanship (+11 for favoured classes) and +6 magical craftsmanship (+7 for favoured classes).
Now I just need to find data on Hats before I decide on what to use for my various crafts.
Hmm, while that sounds decent, it's still far from what Carpenter can get from a Canvas Doublet Vest (+12 craftsmanship). This will come down to what synths require craftsmanship versus magic craftsmanship. As for hats, it seems like spectacles are the way to go for magic craftsmanship with a coif for control unless your craft jobs all benefit from the hat/beret series. This also comes down to how much of an effect control has. We might be able to make up any deficiencies with a specific food, too.
What's strange is I put on a canvas robe just to test some stuff out last night, my Craftsmanship went down by 2 points (I was wearing a vest with +7) because im only rank 22. So I swapped to LNC, which is 30, put the robe on again, and got the MND+2 from the robe, even though I was still not listed as favored class.
Maybe if you out level the item a bit you get full stats regardless? I can't test it myself on CRP yet since im not ranking up that fast, but I found it odd nonetheless.
Question on training bought with guild marks, do I need to equip it? or do anything or am I good just after buying it? I see no indication I have it even though I just bought Tanning Training.
It should take affect without you doing anything, at least that's the way it seems from comparing hook success rate before/after.
I think it has to do with the way they are calculating percentages. I think they go in level ranges below optimum, and the returned value is the next highest integer. In example, something with +2 DEX and +7craftsmanship might give the +2 DEX 10+ ranks below optimal, but only give 3 or 4 of the +7. Obviously, if we had a large pool of information to draw from this would be an easy observation, but since we are reduced to assumptions it seems to be applicable.
