To be fair, comparing death counts isn't the best way to go about this discussion, because it gives weight to the argument that the existing security has some impact while only weakly correlating the idea that the scenario would play out exactly the same way if the security weren't there.

The point at hand is whether or not these methods are any more effective at the detection and prevention of threats than the previous ones. The answer, according to many, is no.

No. I had the scan, the lady I was travelling with got the pat down and the scan. We went for drinks after and talked about where the big bad TSA girl touched her.

How many shootings have we had since?
I can think of at least 1. How many planes have we had fly into buildings since 9/11? Idiot.

I think you just proved his point, and are you seriously attributing the lack of WTC-esque events to screening policies that were initiated less than a year ago and only strictly enforced a month ago?

Of course you can't directly compare numbers. I brought the numbers up to show how few people people die from airplane-related accidents. The difference with these extra security meassures - if one even exists - is so minor that said money would be better spent elsewhere in order to prevent more deaths.

You mean like how we didn't start using them until someone tried to smuggle a bomb in using their underwear? Nevermind the fact that this tech and frisking still won't find someone who attempts the same method?

As mentioned, we already instituted a similar safeguard after 9/11, so you can't open the cockpit from the exterior and passenger vigilance is already there. All of this shit is is security theater meant to give the illusion of safety to paranoid people. Its not like this scan would have even caught the underwear bomber and the amount of shit you can sneak through makes the whole thing moot.
Actually it turned out years later that the kids were just douches that bullied others and liked guns.
The fbi etc just played along with the whole they were bullied into it thing and let the myth perpetuate. I remember being so pissed off when I found out due to all the bullsht i had to go through during high school because of it. It's a miracle i didn't outright attack anyone to shut them the fuck up about how I'm going to bomb the school despite them never being able to answer me when I asked em to give a reason why the fuck i'd do so.

Putting people on ignore doesn't work, it just means more clicks to read the thread

I've already read everything you're saying like 12 times in this thread. You don't think it helps, I think it probably deters and is effective. We can't know the unknown, so I'll walk through the scan and get my junk patted and relax on the plane. You can stress yourself out over invasion of privacy when you're the one choosing to fly and subject yourself to it.

Probably funnier to others but surprisingly relevant to the topic in theory since the revelations that came out when the fbi released it's columbine report to the public pretty much showed that all the security(intelligence wise where they picked the people to watch over) against school shootings that happened was completely wasted as they should have focused on the Riley from Boondocks trying to cut people up with a lightsaber doing something instead of Jasmine playing with dolls or whatever.

I read through from page 4 to 20 to see if the people arguing that the pat downs and backscanners are worth a fuck ever respond to the point raised by Sath on page 4 or commented on Auriks multiple points about how there are so many other things for terrorists to bomb other than a commercial airplane, and then this mattress stain Day comes along to share.

There have been so many silly statements in this whole thread.

Someone says that if a train was bombed, then trains would have similar security implemented. Is this internationally or in specific regions? Because I don't think that train security got tougher when the london underground was bombed in 05'? Maybe people have forgotten that instance.

No one has flown a plane into a building since 9/11 this is true. No one flew a plane into a building prior to that either. People did attempt to drive vans into buildings prior to that though. The situation here is that terrorists are going to go for the soft targets. Buildings were much easier to make a hard target by using vans, and they tried planes. Now they have awakened us to the possibility of a plane being used for that purpose and since we now defend against that actively, they will find something new. I don't think anyone could view flying commercially as a soft target at this point.

A foot ball game or any sports event really, like Aurik has mentioned, is a soft target in comparison to an international flight. All signs point to this procedure being used by TSA as ineffective and most likely about money for the people involved who stand to gain.

And the point Sath made I guess is more philosophical than anything, but I have to agree with it in that I am against the spirit of what this represents. Even then, there is still so many accounts of fucked up situations happening to people, that go beyond the spirit of whether or not its right.

I guess I will continue to read and see if good points are continually ignored so people can just comment on sillier or less valid comments.

At least you probably won't be able to reproduce after walking through enough scans.
