I remember going through security 2 years ago on the way to PA from FL -- i had a folding knife on my keychain about 3", pretty obviously, that I completely forgot about. I put it in the basket, got it back, and noticed it on my keychain when I got to the hotel room. Oh, and my middle name is Adnan (I'm Arab). Not that I want to be profiled but, good job TSA?

I'm not a huge civil rights activist, but the whole thing just makes me sick to my stomach. I've spent the morning filling out a few auto-letters that claim to go to my congressman (though the forms make no effort to establish who the message is actually being sent to so it's suspect), and then an actual self-written note at house.gov.

Here's hoping the shitstorm gets somewhere that produces results.

I'll be flying to the US in December and plan on refusing the x-ray machine thingy. My mindset is that the person who does the pat down can't put their memory up on the Internet, while the person looking at the pictures in the booth has ample opportunity for a very bad decision to save a bunch of photos to a disc and stick them up on some website or another. And I think the full body scanner thing is just plain creepy.

I'm generally all for "civil rights" and whatnot, and this whole hullabaloo doesn't...bother me at all. It's annoying that the whole thing is largely a big waste of money, but unless they can show evidence beyond vague speculation that the backscatter machine is harmful to your health I just don't really get that worked up over it. The privacy concern over "viewing" the way a certain type of radiation details your body outside the visible light spectrum just...I just don't care.

It's fine that you don't care, but hopefully you don't think that just because you're an exhibitionist everyone else should clam up and deal with their privacy being invaded. At least, this is often the character that the nay sayers express when the topic comes up: That they don't understand what the big deal is since they don't mind. And somehow this makes it okay for everyone else to have to deal with it.

Same. Hell if some tsa agent thinks my lard ass and cock is funny enough to put up on the internet, so be it. Not like someone will be able to look at that skeleton and go, hey i know that guy, i borrowed ten bucks from him 8 years ago and forgot to pay him back. As for the health risks, spend a few hours in china breathing in that air, do more harm to you then a lifetime of flying and walking through the scanners.
