I just wanted to update for those who have accounts for XL games. The Korean Government has now passed a law that makes it illegal for any company to accept a KSSN from here on out, and that every company in Korea has 2 years to change and destroy any records that use KSSN accounts.

XL games has made the change on Nov. 15th. You do not need a KSSN anymore. You simply need a valid Korean phone number and address.

Players who have an account need to change their KSSN to a valid phone number and address, or risk having their account deleted.

Media and Fansite accounts are exempt from this.

*If you buy an account from a 3rd party, it will be invalid unless the KSSN is removed from the account. So please be careful.

Thank god. That shit was so annoying when I was living there. KSSN are always birthday (YYMMDD) then your ID number. Numbers starting in 1 or 2 are for Korean citizens, while numbers starting in 5 or 6 are for foreigners. There are a ton of websites that I couldn't access with my KSSN because they didn't accept a number starting with 5 or 6. Shit was retarded.

Big press conference today.

Xl games has announced that Korean Open Beta will start on Jan. 2nd, 2013.

You will be able to download the client on Dec.17th and be able to create your characters between December 19 - December 30.

Xl games will hold another press conference on Dec. 18th for more details.

Other things Xl games has announce is ArcheAge will be one of the first MMO's to use DirectX 11 Tessellation and TXAA Anti-Aliasing.

Nvida has been working with Xl games to bring the latest and most advanced tech ever found in a MMO.

First to do tessellation, TSW already has TXAA. Hopefully all modern MMOs get a DX11 patch at some point... not for added features, can live without those, just for the performance increase that comes with it.

Thanks for the update. I received the email today from XLGames talking about the OBT event, but didn't specify any dates. They are giving players 12 days to make their characters! I wonder if they made updates to the character creator. I think it is by far the most complex character creator I've seen (with presets and sliders). I think they went a bit too far with it. You can really create some awful stuff going plus or minus 100 on the slider. I hope they "fixed" that. I wonder if they are going to place more hairstyles as well as a larger color palette. Can't wait!

There is no IP regional lock for ArchAge, but you need to sign up to get a beta key. In order to sign up you need a valid Korean phone number, address and credit card. The sign up process is actually harder than the old way when you just needed a KSSN..lol

So unless you know a nice Korean who is willing to help you, there is nothing much you can do.

Xl games do make exceptions, if you are gonna promote the game in any way, or belong to the media they will give out between 5 - 50 beta keys. It's how so may Westerners, Russians have been able to play..lol

I forgot that I signed up for the beta when I was living in Korea. Just got my OBT e-mail a few minutes ago.

EDIT: Shit, I hope I remember my password and stuff. I don't think my Korean phone has service to receive texts anymore, so can't get a password change.

If you can speak Korean, sign up and talk to these people, they are always nice at helping people. This is the official open board and even the developers come on to talk.

Basically if you commit criminal acts (killing NPCs, theft, etc.) you build up crime points. Get enough, and you'll get yourself a court date where you could receive a penalty. It's possible to call witnesses, or strike a plea bargain to either try to get out of the penalty or get it reduced.

That's all info from the English Archeage site. I can't find anything about it in Korean on their site, and googling 아키에이지 법원 (ArcheAge Court) just comes up with news stories about NC Soft lawsuits lol

ArcheAge has a Karma system

Getting Karma Points

IF you gank someone his blood will be splattered everywhere(It's kinda gory) and witnesses to the crime can pick up the blood and submit it to a NPC, (just click on it in your inventory) and report it. Every time someone reports this you get 1 Karma point.

Also if you If you decide to steal something from someone else (ie steal someones crops or rob someones house), you will leave behind footprints for each item you steal. (you are given a pop-up window to confirm that you do in fact want to steal their stuff). Players can pick up these footprints and report you for the crime. Again you will get 1 Karma point each time you get reported.

Once you get to 50 Karma points you will be branded an outlaw, and a bounty will be placed on your head. The lucky player who defeats the outlaw gets the bounty and the outlaw will immediately go to jail to await trail. While in Jail you can search for items that may help you escape prison just in case you are found guilty.

The Trial

The Trail consists of 1 Judge and 4 members of the Jury. The Judge is either a player (players can become judges in the game), or a GM will be a judge. The jury is usually random people. The accused can make backroom deals with the jury(like bribing them or get a plea bargain.)

The Judge reads out the accused crimes and then follows what a normal trail would be like in real life. At the end the Judge and the Jury vote (the vote is out of 5). If the accused is found guilty they get sent to the Prison. Jail time is usually 75 mins. or longer depending on how many crimes you committed.

In Prison

You serve your time in a prison cell. If your on good behavior the NPC guards will let you out into the courtyard. You can escape or you can play the mini games in the prison to try and win that Prison costume. If you do escape you will receive a 50% debuff till you served your time. So unless you have friends on the outside, you might be in trouble.

Forgiveness Quests

There are Forgiveness Quests all thought the world. So if one want to get rid of their Karma they can do these, but these quests are long and hard to do.

Becoming a career Pirate/Criminal

If you want to become a criminal/Pirate full time, you need to accumulate 3,000 karma points. Once you do this you can go to Pirate Island and do the quests there. Once you compete them you get a massive buff, and can create a Pirate guild to rule the world.

But it does have some downsides, you will always have a bounty placed on your head. So another player can collect and you automatically go to Prison ( you get no Trail) and you can be in Prison for a long time. NPC's on the other continents will be red and kill you on site.

Here are some videos from the Germans.

Evil Fido has been going around ganking lowbies and stealing from other players. In this video he is stealing Trees from someones Tree farm.

Notice when he steals something he leaves footprints. Anyone can pick those up and take it to a NPC and he will get a Karma Point.

Eventually Evil Fido got a bounty on his head and a player killed him. In this video he is sent to jail to await trail, but the trail came up right away.

Notice the Judge read him 5 pages worth of crimes. He had no money to bribe the jury so he was voted guilty, and his punishment was 120 mins in Prison.

Eventually Evil Fido was let out of his Prison cell and allowed to wander for good behavior, as you can see he wanders around to collect the Prison costume, you can also see a couple of mini games you can play while your in there as well.
