Streaming to a TV in another room
So, I'm more curious if anyone else does this and can pull it off (or have pulled it off well):
In my house, have my office two rooms away from my living room. Nice TV in the living room, nice computer in the office. Good monitor in the office, pretty awful PC hooked up to the TV, and a lady who wants to be in the living room rather than the office.
I'm doing some testing to see what possibilities there are for doing things extremely well from my back office PC and display it on the front office TV.
Running a VGA cord (TV doesn't support DVI? Lame, but does HDMI) from the office to the living room seems like it's probably a no-go. I've been researching streaming over LAN, as we all know that Remote Desktop applications just don't really work... all that well for streaming. It's got to be possible though, as I already stream via XBMC my DVD collection, so that works wonders.
Going for gaming, I decided i'd try streammygame. Any of you had a chance to tinkle around with that? It seems to work fine for FFXIV, and I haven't given PCSX2 a try for PS2 emulation, but i hear it also works fine.
No controller support though, so the only way to use my PS3 controller from the back office is to find some way to connect a controller from one room to another, it's not that far a distance, but.. I suppose it is long enough with two walls to disturb bluetooth (lol).
Actually, trying with a second dongle is proving to be better, maybe this'll work out after all.
Anywho, curious as to if anyone else is doing anything like this, if anyone has a recommendation for SMG (as it's really cruddy resolution unless you pay), or if there's an alternative (supposedly VLC could be used, but i doubt it would work as well...)
Anyone?

An Efficient Consumption Bundle
ASUS WiCast? Pretty much exactly what you're asking for.

If you're only looking to stream movies and other video and audio, you could get the new apple tv. I think it sells for around $100, no subscription fees or anything, and it supposedly stream anything that you have in iTunes on your computer to your tv. I've read several of the reviews and articles for it on engadget, and it looks pretty decent. If you're looking for something more than that, I'm not really too sure what other options would be best for you.

Pens win! Pens Win!!! PENS WIN!!!!!
I heard that the Apple TV doesn't stream to 1080 max 720 is that true

They do make DVI to HDMI cables (I use one to hook my TV up to my computer) and use my TV as a second monitor. I've seen them up to 50 feet, but they may be available in longer sizes.

I read something over at GeekTonic that seems to be an interesting idea, and that's HDMI over CAT6. think ultimately that's what I'm going to do, should be an interesting adventure
comes out to about $45 if all works as planned (it never does though)

If you have a dual monitor output on your video card, I'd recommend using that since there will be no additional software you have to worry about, just windows configuration settings.

For video files just set up a broadcast in VLC, put it online, and connect to the broadcast through the other PC. Simple.

Personally, I hate wires going all over (which is why i sleeved the sh*t out of the cords in my pc case) so for live streaming, WD Live comes in at a nice price point and Netgear has their own version too. Will do 1080i. Just need a beefy router. Other part is HDMI via ethernet cables are cheaper (wireless steaming is about $80-100) but have to make sure you get good cat6 cables that are not cat5. Slingboxes are nice but come at a higher price point than the WD Live and Netgear versions but I usually see Slingboxes configed for viewing TV on PC and rarely vice versa. The delay I get from what happens on desktop to TV is 1-2 second delay. Not such a bad thing for most stuff FF less its camping a mob/NM then that delay may be help or hurt.

Just got an email today about the new WD TV Live Hub. It's a network media center just like the older ones, but also has a 1 TB hard drive included now.
