The power creep in YGO is so atrocious that I can't understand why people play it. I understand that they attempt to fix things through restrictions and bans. . . but then they go around and print something just as broken, if not more. And it's clearly on purpose cause you wouldn't make the same mistake 20 times without having learned something... no it's just clearly to get people to constantly buy. And in some respects, that's genius for a game as it keeps people playing, but it doesn't make it "good."
At least with a game like Magic, or anything with either good design or at the very least a block format, I'm know that things that are format warping will eventually cycle out. I'd rather have variety & balance in the form of a clean slate then in the form of "I have to be more broken than all my predecessors."
I personally haven't played Magic in a while though so if the format is warped atm, then oh well I guess my point doesn't seem as valid. But with time, it'll at least right itself, which I can't see YuGiOh doing with it's current structure. It's why I simply don't have any desire to play it anymore. Most of my friends who still play it are only in it cause the money that's made off of the secondary market and winning regionals/topping events is apparently pretty good.
