    Need a new Wireless Router

My Linksys WRT54G is at the end of its lifecycle and I need a new router. It hasn't served me particularly well but it got the job done. I want to make sure I buy a good router for my next one, what do you guys recommend I pick up?

I should note one thing, I DO NOT want to mess around with custom firmware like DDWRT, I want a wireless router that is good to go right out of the box. I connect my pc via network cable, and my game systems (Xbox 360 and PS3) are wireless.

Get the Cisco E-1000/2000/3000, one of those. If you do gaming and don't want to see an impact on your gaming, while DLing music etc go to a dual band router, Netgear Rangmax Dual Band.

i really like my wndr3700, but it was kind of expensive. whenever i had a linksys router, no matter what i would do upnp would never work correctly, it would constantly change the ip addresses of my stuff so i always had to assign static ips for everything. with this one, upnp pretty much always works (i never have to foward ports for things like utorrent, xbox live, or psn) and my internal ips haven't changed one time since i got it. it's a nice dual band wireless-n router.

I live in apartment and have had nothing but trouble with my e1000, even using N. Things work fine hardwired, but there's just too much noise for the e1000 to be reliable in wireless mode. If you can get several wireless signals from your PC, I'd definitely spring for the e2000 so that you can change bands to avoid interference.

(This is assuming the cards in Xbox and PS3 can do 5GHz... never bothered to check.)

I've got a DLink DIR655 that I've been more than happy with for the past few years.

I bought a TP-Link TL-WR841N router from Newegg over the summer for like $40 (it's now $35), and it's absolutely been the easiest router I've ever used. I connect wirelessly through all of my computers and game consoles, none of which had any issue finding or connecting. The setup page allows you to reboot your router remotely, and it's FULL of configuration options (all of which you can bypass because it works out of the box). I can't emphasize enough how easy it set up, I took it out of the box, plugged it in, went to 127.168.1.1 in Firefox and boom, Internets! I used to have a WRT54g (which met an Office Space-esque demise) and there was so much hassle trying to get all of my devices to play nicely with it. Hope this helps

You can actually have it both ways if you were to go for a Buffalo router as they come pre-packaged with a DD-WRT build, my only hesitation in that regard would be which builds they use (I don't see it on their site) as current DD-WRT stable releases aren't bug free

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to get either the E2000 or the D-Link DIR 825. Now time to price shop!
